The Martha's Vineyard Museum is steward of three of the Island's lighthouses. The Gay Head, East Chop, and Edgartown lighthouses are not historic remnants of a bygone age, but are working beacons that still send a light out into the night. The Edgartown and Gay Head Lighthouses have seasonal hours open to the public (see website for specific dates and times) and the East Chop Lighthouse is open for sunset on Sundays in-season. hide

On one of our many vacations to the Vineyard we decided to explore the town of Edgartown. It was a rainy day and left us searching for adventure. Soon we found ourselves upon this wonderful museum- it was filled with maps, artwork, artifacts and ancient equipment to mention just a few items of interest. My 3 children were young and even they found their attention held by some of the facts and histoorical pieces. It has an 2 outoor areas as well to see with many different pieces like boats and even a a horse drawn fire truck. Well worth the visit for a couple of hours worth of entertainment and we left learning a few more interesting facts about the island we love!
