Carol spent her childhood summers on Cape Cod and introduced Dick to the Cape in 1965, the year before we married. In fall 1990, Carol visited her parents in Harwichport from home in California, and bicycled down Baxter Street. She saw the six lots from this former cottage colony for sale, right on the Swan River, and by March persuaded Dick to come and consider the possibilities. Luckily the ''best lot'' was still available; we built ''Swan Song'' by moving two of the original cottages next to a new central ''great room'', positioning all for river views. On our small budget, affordability required renting through the summer weeks so we could come in the spring and fall. We have loved our second home, as have our kids, grandkids, and tenants. We switched to We Need A Vacation for the summer of 2023 based on the favorable experience of good friends (and fellow Davis Californians) with a waterfront home in Bourne.

What is special about this property?
Swan Song is special for us in so many ways, but for us its 10 greatest assets are:
1. Serenity: the gorgeous view to conservation land across the river, without homes or other buildings in sight
2. Light and Space: All rooms except the den face the river, and have large or many windows for light and views
3. New and Old: The newer, large- window great room combines charmingly with the old cottage bedroom wings
4. Bedroom Suites: Each cottage end combines two former bedrooms into one larger one; ideal for two couples
5. Privacy: Way, way back from the road, with neighboring homes barely visible; a back deck shower with views!
6. Location: Easy access from Rte 134, a fast mile south of Patriot Square, a mile and a half from a great beach
7. The Dock: Delightful scenery paddling a mile up to Swan Pond or a mile down to sands of Nantucket Sound
8. Convenience: a 5 minute walk to the 7-Eleven at 28/134; so many restaurants, shops, movies within 5 miles
9. The Rail Trail: for cyclists, short rides to 3 access points, then safe, gorgeous peddling for miles east and west
10. Big Yard: The river-facing decks, hammock and yard chairs are complemented by front yard game space.

What is special about your town?
South Dennis is a perfectly central location on the ''warmer'' side of the Cape, almost halfway between Hyannis and Chatham. We have very easy access to Route 6 for fast travel toward either Sagamore or Provincetown, and even easier access to Route 28, the old southern east/west route that passes through so many wonderful old Cape towns loaded with shops and conveniences. There are three relatively fast routes across to 6A, the more charming of the old east/west roads. Old South Dennis has many beautiful historic homes and is an easy walk or bike ride from Swan Song. Take a 5-minute walk to Kreme 'N Kone for the best fried seafood on the Cape! There are many nice hiking trails in Dennis and Harwich, some along lakes. There is great fishing close by too; in the Swan, Herring, and Bass rivers as well as in Nantucket Sound. Or go clamming in the Sound! The Dennis beaches are special, with kite-surfers often in play at the huge and renowned West Dennis Beach.
