Our family has been renting houses on the Cape for over 20 years and have never been so disappointed and compelled to write a review like this. Due to Covid-19 requirements, which we are in support of, our access to the house was delayed until 4p.m. When we arrived and started to unpack we realized that the wait to enter the house was for nothing as it was neither cleaned nor sanitized. We found hair and food debris in the refrigerator, dirty dishes in the dishwasher, sand on the beds, carpets not vacuumed, and unwashed floors. Hopper Realty, the property manager, blamed the owner. They at least sent out a cleaning crew. (While cleaning the house, the crew made repeated comments about the poor condition of the house and how dirty it was) This delayed our ability to start our vacation by another 3 hours, during which time we lost food. According to Hopper the owner was contacted but we never heard from them (and still have not).

We understood that the house did not have air-conditioning however, the screen on the front door was broken and several windows throughout the house could not be opened. This limited airflow in a house that was already stuffy from being closed up and uncared for.

The grill and its tools needed to be cleaned before use.

We always try to respect owners' wishes and follow their guidelines for care/use of their property. There was a note saying not to use the dishwasher, so we hand washed everything all week. When we called Hopper to follow up on the cleaning issue at the end of the week, they told us that the note was old and the dishwasher was fine. They also refused to give us even one minute past the scheduled check out time stating that the house had to be cleaned for the next renters.

We spent the 3 1/2 or so months prior to our get away respecting COVID 19 stay at home and social distancing rules. It was our understanding that the owner of this house would be required to clean and sanitize the premises. The owner of this house did not even attempt to maintain basic cleanliness standards. The owner and Hopper Realty unilaterally determined that it was okay to risk exposing us to this virus knowing how difficult it would be for a family to forgo their vacation once they had packed and traveled. Neither did they care enough to check in with us or offer an apology or allow us a few extra hours of time at the end of our week.

Perhaps some professionalism and some level of concern from the owner would have prevented this very unhappy review. show more show less
