Description

Description

Cozy knotty-pine two bedroom, one bathroom cottage in Sunset Village, located 2 lots back from Cape Cod Bay, with deeded access to an Association Beach. Short walks on shady paths to three different sets of Association stairs (closest one is just 900 feet from the house) provide delightful walks to the Bay for swimming or paddle boarding when the tide is high, walking on sand bars when the tide is low, and watching spectacular sunsets over the water in the evenings.

Plan to pick your groceries up on your way to Aunt Gay’s, park the car and spend the rest of your vacation outdoors walking or biking everywhere. From the Association beach one can walk to First Encounter Beach in one direction or Herring Brook in the other, or at low tide, straight out for a half of a mile on the sand flats. When you want a break from the salt water, take a walk to the Nickerson Conservation Area to explore shaded, easy trails including ones leading to Great Pond where you and your well-mannered pup can take a dip in the freshwater or your child can enjoy the playground and public swimming area at Wylie Park. Bring or rent bicycles if a 5 mile ride to Coast Guard Beach on the ocean side sounds appealing. The ride is primarily via the Cape Cod Rail Trail, over to the Cape Cod National Seashore Salt Pond Visitor Center and the Nauset Bike Path. Or just take a short 1.7 mile walk or ride up Samoset Road for a snack at the Eastham Superette while you explore the Windmill or take in a free concert (seasonal) on the town green.

When back at the cottage, enjoy the calm breezes and hearing the waves at high tide. Or if it is a bit too hot for your taste, take a break inside with air conditioning, where there is a mini-split in each room with independent temperature controls. Relax on the front deck, the back deck or in the park-like setting of the backyard where you can cook on the gas grill and eat on the picnic table in a grove of black cherry trees. Take a snooze in the hammock or chaise lounge chair while the kids climb the strong low branches of a very old oak tree in the fully fenced-in backyard.

When you are ready to get in the car and explore the area, there is so much to recommend. Be sure to take in a movie or go the renowned flea market at the Wellfleet Drive-in. Mini Golf and Pizza at the Red Barn in Eastham is always great (especially for those of us who like gourmet gluten free pizza). Arnolds has terrific fresh fried seafood or if you are looking for something fancier, Mac's in Wellfleet is the best (and all of its fried food is gluten free). In the morning, grab coffee and a donut at The Hole in One or a full breakfast at the Fairway.

For longer outings, a 40 minute drive to Provincetown is always well worth it. Take in a whale watch or a dune tour, or just wander through the local shops and enjoy people watching and/or eating in any of the many fine restaurants.

The cottage is equipped with high-speed internet, a well-stocked kitchen that includes an electric oven with air fryer option and a dishwasher, and a washer and dryer (as well as a clothesline and clothespins). There is a smart TV in the family room with a Firestick for those rainy days or when you just need a break.

Linens are not provided, but can be rented from Cape Linen Rentals.

    Aunt Gay's October 2024

My husband and I along with our little pup had the privilege of staying at Aunt Gay's in October when all the crowds are gone, and it was very peaceful! My pup enjoyed the added bonus of a fenced in large backyard where she was able to run free and play ball without the fear of getting out. We had the private beach, which was a 5 minute walk, all to ourselves, and pretty much the same for First Encounter Beach, which is a 5 minute drive. The Sunsets there were beautiful, as well as the privilege of seeing the Northern Lights there! We were at the right place at the right time!
Pablo & Shirley are very willing hosts to help with any questions and issues that may arise, and very pleasant to deal with. We are very appreciative of our time spent at Aunt Gay's, and thankful to Pablo & Shirley for sharing their adorable cottage with us!

Excellent Cottage, Great location, and Exceptional Hosts!

We had a wonderful time here!

Aunt Gays Cottage, located on a private street, is a true gem for those seeking a peaceful getaway. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed by the quaint exterior and private fenced-in backyard surrounding the property. Stepping inside, we were greeted by a cozy and inviting atmosphere, with comfortable furnishings and charming decor that exudes warmth and relaxation.

The Cottage features all the amenities for a comfortable stay, including new appliances, a well-equipped kitchen, a cozy living room, and comfy bedrooms that ensure a restful night's sleep. The cottage website helps you navigate any information needed.

With the Cottage within walking distance of trails, a private beach, and various local attractions, we enjoyed tranquility and convenience. We enjoyed walks, swimming, exploring nearby sights, and barbequing in the yard; Aunt Gay's Cottage will surely exceed your expectations. We highly recommend it for a memorable and relaxing vacation and hope to return for another summer holiday.

Shirley and Pablo are wonderful hosts who simplify the rental process and follow up to ensure all is well. Thank you, Shirley and Pablo!

    Perfect cape cottage!

We loved staying at Aunt Gay's!! It's a 5 minute walk to a private bay beach (the best side for swimming if you are new to the Cape) and a 10 minute bike ride to the rail trail. We really appreciated the washer and dryer (brand new!) and that it was dog friendly. The yard is beautiful and huge! Everything was clean and well appointed - we had everything we needed for a perfect cape vacation!! The owners are also great to work with!

    Great home and location

We've visited Cape Cod for 20 years, and Eastham for the last 10. Out of all the places we've stayed in over the years, this home ranks among the best. The house is on a short private gravel road in a quiet neighborhood. To reach the association beach there is an access path a few homes away that allows you to cut in between homes (less than a 5 minute walk). The home was clean and appeared recently remodeled with new appliances. The washer/dryer/stove worked great and the home is stocked with most everything needed for a week stay. Owners were very easy to work with and provided a great website with important home info. We plan to stay again in the future.

    Aunt Gay's June 2024

The town Eastham is small and quiet, but centrally located to all of the Cape Cod attractions. The neighborhood has a private beach on the bayside and the Coast Guard Beach is about a 10 minute drive on the oceanside. Owners were nice and helpful. Small cottage with 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, kitchen, living room, and dinning area. Kitchen was well stocked with pots, pans, and utensils. Air conditioning in each room worked well. Large fenced in yard with a deck, grill, and numerous trees. No problems with the property or the transaction. show more show less

I am Shirley de la Canal, the niece of Gatria Wheeler (aka Aunt Gay). Aunt Gay lived in the house year round from 1970 to 2021. She loved having visitors in her little house at the Cape, and we all called it ''Aunt Gay's'' for all those years. I grew up visiting her during all seasons, including summers, and have a special attachment to the area. Before she passed, we let her know we would continue to call her house ''Aunt Gay's'' and that we would share her piece of paradise with others.

In her honor, we have made improvements to the house that we know she would have approved of (new floors, added A/C, cleared the yard of vines, etc.). We are brand new vacation rental owners and we look forward to sharing her house with others as she would have liked.

What is special about this property?
The best things about Aunt Gay's are:
    - proximity to a bay side beach (I love those sand bars and playing in the tide pools)
    - being third row rather than oceanfront (far less windy)
    - Shady large fenced in yard (with doggie door access through the storm door off the deck)
    - Air Conditioning with independent controls for each room (I can open the windows in my bedroom, but let the other bedroom be cool)
    - Lots of beautiful shady walking loops, especially Nickerson Conservation Area
    - Being able to swim with my dog in the fresh water pond (dogs are not allowed at the ocean/bay beaches in Eastham during the season)
    - Morning coffee at the picnic table in the shady park like setting
    - Sitting in the Oak tree on the strong low branches and feeling the calming effect that touching a tree brings
    - Sitting on the bench midway down the Association stairs watching the sunset over the water

What is special about your town?
