Description

Description

Surrounded by trees, on a quiet road, this delightful 3 bedroom cottage is a welcoming getaway. The interior of the cottage is all new, and designed and furnished for a relaxing visit for you and your family and/or friends. There's comfortable seating and beds, as well as a fully equipped kitchen (including a dishwasher and 3 different kinds of coffee makers). A handy stack washer/dryer is close at hand, and there's a clothes line outside, too. Depending on the time of day, the deck enjoys both shade and sun, and the outdoor shower invites you to rinse off after a dip. Games, puzzles, and a small collection of books are available, as well as a 44 inch smart TV. Multiple streaming channels are available, including sports programs.

The Cape Cod National Seashore Visitors Center is 0.8 miles away, Great Pond is 0.7 miles away and access to the multi-use CC Rail Trail is 0.3 miles away. The Rail Trail is approximately 25 miles long, and runs from Yarmouth to Wellfleet.

Eastham offers visitors multiple choices for both salt and freshwater swimming. First Encounter beach is approximately 2.2 miles away, and Campground Beach is about 2.3 miles away from the cottage. Both have ample parking. The closest fresh-water is at Great Pond.....the west side is in the sun all day, and sun-bathing and kayak-launching are favorites there. The west side of Great Pond offers shade, a playgound, freshwater fishing and floating docks. Our town abounds in casual dining spots, from the doughnuts at the Hole in One to the great pizzas at the Red Barn.

One of Audubon's best-loved Wildlife Sanctuaries offers walking trails along the Bay and in the pines, and is about 3.5 miles to the north. Their Museum has exhibits just at the right height for little ones, too. If you happen to be interested in drive-in moves (or flea markets), check out the Wellfleet Drive-In, again about 3.5 miles to the north.

*Depending on the Season and the time of day, parking at these venues may require stickers. Sticker information is available on the Town's website. read more show less

    About

    About Eileen Morgan

    Member since:

I've lived in Eastham, summer and winter, for over 25 years, and enjoy it year-round. Renovating and furnishing the cottage has taken the best part of the past year, with the usual ups and downs that accompany renovations, so it's a welcome relief to get back to my ''usual''.....hanging out with friends, reading, and quilting.

While I haven't rented seasonally in a long time, I have been a long-time member of both Servas and 5W (Women welcoming women world-wide). With both organizations, I've welcomed vetted members from all over the world, which I continue to enjoy. If you enjoy travelling, do investigate these non-profits....they offer the opportunity to actually visit at fellow members' homes for a night or two (or more, if mutually agreeable). There's no charge (aside from a modest annual membership fee for each) and it's not quid pro quo.

What is special about this property?
Easy access, yet tucked away in a quiet neighborhood, with lots of surrounding trees. The deck gets sun earlier in the day, and shade later in the afternoon. Quiet and shade are two of my favorite things, along with a good book and some ice water, so the deck is perfect for me.

Vacationers have lots to choose from here....the National Seashore is a jewel, and there's plenty of Town beaches (fresh and salt water) to check out. Casual dining abounds, from early-morning coffee and munchies at the Hole-In-One, lunch favorites at Sam's, to dinner fare at the Red Barn, Local Break, Brick House, Fairway, and more. Access to the Rail Trail is a short distance away from the cottage, and enjoys less traffic in the early morning.

What is special about your town?
I enjoy that Eastham doesn't have a lot of ''developments''. What the Town does have is a lot of homes that were built almost one by one. First came the purchase of the lot, then, perhaps years later, came the actual construction, followed by family use in the summertime. Years pass, and summertime use becomes retirement life. You'll see the physical differences from house to house, with the iconic Cape Cod style still the most popular.

In addtion to being able to boast about having one of Dr. Beachs' top American beaches (Coast Guard Beach), Eastham enjoys a great library, which will be celebrating it's 10th anniversary next year. A must-see section offers donated books, puzzles, and CDs, with the prices ranging from .50 for paperbacks to $1 for hard covers. Donations are vetted for publication date as well as condition, with preference for more recent books. The children's section offers MOBY (My Own Back Yard) backpacks (targeted to 7 to 11 year olds) with speciality equipment in them for star-gazing, insect investigations and many more. Check it out, and reserve. And, there's are children's programs every week, too.

In the '50's, there were over 4,000 drive-ins in the country, and less than 10% of that number remain these days. One of those ''dinosaurs'' is just up the road in Wellfleet. If you're not a drive-in fan, the site hosts a weekend Flea Market, and offers something for everyone.
