Description

Description

This gorgeous property is directly on the Childs River, which flows to Vineyard Sound. The lower-level in-law apartment, ideal for 1-2 people, has a separate entrance from the main house, a patio on the river, and in-yard parking for one car.

The private home is in an established neighborhood. Its many amenities include high-speed WIFI and cable TV, a mini-split a/c in the living room and another in the bedroom, all utilities, a gas-inset fireplace, baseboard heat, a washer and dryer, fresh bed linens, and bath/beach towels. Some foods will be stocked in the cabinets and fridge when you first arrive. Housecleaners come every other week year-round. The side garden has beach plum trees, perennials, shrubs, roses, dahlias, and herbs.

In the bright, uncluttered apartment, all walls are painted white and all floors have white ceramic tiles. Recessed lighting and table lamps add to the natural light. There are two grass woven rugs and a 5X8 bedroom rug. The front room has four large Andersen gliding windows which overlook the river. Sit in the recliner or chairs enjoy a meal at the table. You can also watch many boats go by, read, write, relax, be entertained by the birds, or use your computer. The mini-kitchen comes equipped with a fridge, large toaster oven, small toaster, an induction plate, air fryer, electric frying pan, coffee maker, an electric tea kettle, and many pots, pans, dishes, utensils, and a wine rack. A counter with two lucite stools separates the kitchen and living room, which has a couch, chairs, TV, and gas-insert brick fireplace, and bookcase. Down the hall, you'll find a white-tiled, full bathroom with a tub and shower. In the vanity, there are personal care products and a hair dryer. Across the hall is a bedroom with two twin-XL beds, which can join to become a king-sized bed. There are two night tables, a work table, three lamps, and recessed lighting. A back section of the apartment contains the laundry room with a washer, dryer, a rack for air drying, and an iron and ironing board. Outdoors, the table and chairs on the stone patio bring you closer to the water and gardens. A propane gas grill and barbecue utensils are provided.

Seacoast Shores is a friendly neighborhood. The local free beach is a 6-minute walk or 2-minute drive from the apartment. If you continue your walk for about another mile, you will reach the end of the peninsula and see Martha's Vineyard in the distance. The dock on the premises is private and inaccessible to renters, however, there are fifteen neighborhood rights-of-way in the neighborhood for you to have a closer look at the river or to launch your own kayak or canoe. The neighborhood is also wonderful for a casual bike ride around its perimeter. You may keep bikes in the garage, where there are also beach chairs for your use.

The Town of Falmouth is known for its beautiful beaches. Menauhant Beach in East Falmouth is a 10-minute drive. Continuing along the coast, you will reach Bristol Beach, Falmouth Heights Beach, or Surf Drive Beach. Beaches in Woods Hole, North Falmouth or West Falmouth are about a 25-minute drive from the apartment. Falmouth also has the popular, scenic Sea to Shining Sea Bike Path. The Marina with the Island Queen ferry is just 20-minutes away. The Steamship Authority in Woods Hole is a 25-minute drive if you’d like to catch a ferry going to Martha’s Vineyard. Along that driving route is the landmark Nobska Lighthouse, which has stunning, panoramic views over Vineyard Sound. Downtown Falmouth has one of the prettiest Main Streets on the Cape. There are many shops and restaurants for you to visit, plus picnic tables are set up on the library lawn for the public's use. Drive to Mashpee Commons, 3 miles east of the apartment for groceries, dining, ice cream, and shopping at specialty or larger stores. Continue on towards the Mid-Cape Highway, and you can visit the magnificent Lower Cape National Seashore Beaches or unique towns, like Chatham, Wellfleet, Truro, or Provincetown. Hyannis offers ferry service to both Nantucket and MV.

In addition to its fabulous beaches, Falmouth also offers golf courses, tennis courts, pickle ball courts, Commodore Baseball Team games, conservation land for walks, movie theaters, the famous Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution and Marine Biological Lab, as well as many art venues such as galleries, Highfield Hall, the College Light Opera, and the Museums on the Green. Throughout the summer, the Falmouth Town Band performs free weekly concerts in the park by the marina.

Come experience waterfront in Falmouth! The quiet apartment is a perfect place to work remotely, relax, or to use as a hub for travel throughout the Cape. Many guests are affiliated with the scientific community or baseball league.

    Charming Waterfront Rental
    August 2020

My husband and I booked this charming rental property for our wedding anniversary and loved it! Exquisite gardens, gorgeous river views and a well appointed, immaculate apartment. A true sanctuary in quintessential Cape Cod . Beautiful beaches and terrific restaurants ( that offer outdoor patio seating) close by. To top it off , the host was kind, gracious and highly accommodating. I have booked many rentals on the Cape for the past 20 years and give this rental 5 plus stars!!

Thank you! I am happy that you and your husband had such a positive experience here for your anniversary. You were very considerate visitors, who explored the Cape, enjoyed its amenities, and returned each night to relax and appreciate the quiet beauty here. I only wish that you could have stayed longer. Best of luck to both of you!

I have rented my peaceful summer apartment on the Childs River since 2016. Know that I take pride in keeping it fresh, clean, and welcoming. People who have most enjoyed this spot like nature, the view of the river, quiet times, relaxation, and using the rental as a base to see the rest of beautiful Falmouth, Cape Cod, and the Islands.

What is special about this property?
Besides offering a lovely, natural environment with its location right on the salt water river, it is perfect for other activities. You can transport your bike to our famous ''Sea to Shining Sea'' Bike Path for a scenic ride or walk. Edgewater Drive has little traffic, so an easy ride, walk, or run around the peninsula is invigorating. Maybe, you'd prefer to take an 8-minute walk to our small association beach to take a swim or just plant your towel and watch the boats pass from the Childs River to Eel River. Restaurants, grocery stores, and specialty stores are close. Perhaps, you'd want to drive to some of Cape Cod's special spots: the National Seashore, Provincetown, Main Street in Chatham, Nauset Beach in Orleans, the Cape Cod Canal bike/walking path or public boat rides, the JFK Museum in Hyannis, or the scenic North Side of the Cape Route 6A, stopping for an ice cream along the way. Some guests even drive or take the bust to Boston to experience some of what our great capital city offers.

What is special about your town?
Falmouth is well-known for the Arts, so plan a visit to the Art Center or nearby Cotuit Center for the Arts. Highfield Hall offers entertaining musical and stage performances, as well as art openings. For history buffs, there's the Katherine Lee Bates Home and the Woods Hole Historical Museum. Several movie theaters are in Falmouth or nearby. If you want to take a trip to the Islands, drive to The Steamship Authority, the Island Queen, or the Patriot Two. For golfers, there's the Falmouth Country Club, a public course, and tennis players may play on the public school courts. Nobska Lighthouse offers weekly tours, and Woods Hole has its salt water aquarium. You have your choice of restaurants, since this house sits between Woods Hole and Mashpee Commons. There's Smitty's famous ice cream or Gelfi's chocolates for sweet treats. Falmouth is known for having the most contiguous shoreline of all the Cape Cod towns, so spend a day or two or three checking out each unique beach. The town's libraries usually have an array of special happenings that you can find on their websites. Our local paper, ''The Falmouth Enterprise'', will keep you updated on our town's events. The choice is yours!
