Description

Description

A Sea Captain’s residence updated with a contemporary design aesthetic, this home is truly unique. A former inn, the house has six bedrooms - each with en-suite bathroom: two bedrooms on the first floor and four upstairs. A large, well-appointed kitchen has everything you need. The comfortable living room with its gas fireplace invites you to curl up with a good book or movie, and the spacious dining area is large enough for your group to gather for a special meal or occasion.

The front porch is a favored spot, from where you can enjoy the garden, your morning coffee, and the sea breezes. A fire pit invites you to relax on cool evenings.

Steps from the charming Falmouth Village, a quintessential New England town and main street of old, and a short stroll from some of the best restaurants, shopping, and beaches on the entire Cape. One of the finest bike paths on the Eastern Seaboard runs directly behind the Inn. The Shining Sea Bikeway runs along picturesque salt marshes and estuaries brimming with life, gorgeous beaches of Vineyard Sound with views of the islands, to Woods Hole and the ferry to Martha's Vineyard.

Exceptional natural beauty, trails, hikes and golf courses are all close by. This is the ideal “base camp” to venture on day trips to explore Cape Cod, the Islands, and off-Cape locales.

Woods Hole is a 20 minute bike ride from our front porch, or an 8 minute car trip. It is home to the world renowned Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, with its labs and diverse population. It’s also where a few of our favorite restaurants and watering holes are located, and the ferry to run back and forth to Martha’s Vineyard.

    Excellent Place and Location

My family of eight rented the main house that has 6 bedrooms and 6 baths. It was the perfect size to accommodate two couples and four singles that each wanted their own space. It was only a 10-minute walk to the picturesque downtown and only an 8-minute drive to the Martha's Vineyard Ferry. There is a bike path right behind the property and short bike or car ride to the beach. There are several restaurants and boutique shops that you can enjoy.

I love that the property supplied beach chairs and umbrellas. show more show less

Space and privacy with charm for all

We found the Sea Captains Home listed by Caroline and Victoria to exceed our expectations during our time in Falmouth. We were celebrating a wedding and union between our families. The home was in a perfect location, right near the bike path and the main street. Each room had enough privacy and space for all 12 of us. We hung out a lot in the kitchen and the front porch. We used the grill for a cookout and sat around the back dining table one of the nights and made a fire with smores in the fire pit out front. The house was stocked with everything that we needed to feel at home. show more show less

Our stay during the winter holiday was wonderful. We could walk to the coffee shop and to Main St., which was very festive. We enjoyed walking the bike trail to Salt Pond and we visited the lighthouse, the Knob, and the pie shop in Woods Hole. The home had a well-stocked kitchen and a comfortable living room. Caroline was very responsive and accommodating.

We had a fabulous time at Caroline and Trevor's beautiful home. It is within walking distance to "downtown" Falmouth, right near a path to the Shining Sea Bikeway, easily accessible to Woods Hole and other areas of the Cape.
Their home and amenities were perfect for our large family. We enjoyed their large screen TV for both sports and Karaoke. The long dining room table was great for dinners and board games. We had fun roasting marshmallows in their fire pit. We were able to grill steak and swordfish on their gas grill for a wonderful home cooked meal. We didn't get a chance to use their cornhole game or outdoor dining area, but maybe next time.
The fact that each bedroom had their own bathroom was ideal for our family. We all agreed that the accommodations were outstanding and would like to stay with Caroline and Trevor again.
Thanks so much for sharing your home with us!

My family had a wonderful stay at this beautiful, historic home during my son's wedding.
It is always a treat to be under the same roof with family members who live far apart. There were 11 of us and we could have very comfortably accommodated the two cousins who couldn't make it at the last minute.
The wedding was held at Highfield Hall and Gardens which is a magical venue and only a three minute drive from the house!
Cooking was a delight in the well equipped kitchen and the central location afforded a myriad of excellent restaurants nearby.
Fond memories were made during our stay which will be savored for years to come.

    Family Wedding Celebration

Guest Review: Our family rented this home for our daughter's wedding on the Cape. This home proved to be a central meeting place. The night before the wedding we had our immediate family and all the bridesmaids stay in the house so that we could be together to celebrate and to be together first thing in the morning when the hair, make-up crews and photographers arrived.
The house has such beautiful charm and detail that it made a perfect backdrop to so many beautiful wedding photos!
The open floor plan with living room, gas fireplace and dining area was ideal for gathering as was the large kitchen for prepping our brunch and mimosas. The kitchen had absolutely anything and everything you could possibly need.
The six bedrooms (2 on the first floor), each with a private bathroom was clutch for getting everybody ready at the same time for the wedding event on Saturday. The spiral staircase added so much character and beautiful backdrop for photos too.
We were staying October 2022 and it was nice to turn the heat on at night by room to take the chill off and the gas fireplace added a warm cozy feeling!
Everyone commented that the beds were very comfortable.
Washer and dryer were available too.
The day after the wedding was also convenient at the house to be together one more time for brunch and goodbyes.
The outdoor space was beautiful though being so busy with the wedding we did not have a lot of time to use the fire pit and the beautiful grounds, but it provided great areas for photos for the wedding.
The house is in an ideal location and having a convenient store right next door proved to be very convenient! The walk-ability to downtown/Main Street in Falmouth was ideal as well.
Since I could not have hosted this event at my home this home was the closest thing to it! Communication with the hosts of this home was outstanding. Any questions were answered instantly and the hosts were local to address or assist with anything that could come up.
I would 100% recommend this house to any large family who want to be together while celebrating any event such as a wedding or reunion.
The only thing I would do differently is that I wish we stayed for a longer duration.
We will cherish our stay here together with wonderful memories for many, many years!! Until next time!!
    Thank you Caroline & Trevor!

    A Wonderful Retreat In Falmouth!

In September a group of five friends got together in Falmouth for 5 days of fun. We were thrilled to stay at this lovely home. Each member of the group had their own bedroom and bathroom. There was a large well-equipped kitchen that was the perfect spot for breakfast and for outlining the sightseeing plan for the day. The large living room was great for relaxing. At the generous dining room table we played games in the evening and enjoyed some wine and dessert. This lovely home is any easy walk from town. Falmouth has many, many fun shops and delicious restaurants. This lovely home is less than a 15 minute drive from the Woods Hole Ferry to Martha's Vineyard. You will be 100 percent pleased if you choose this rental home for your next vacation retreat! show more show less

    Great Cape Rental!!

Loved our stay!! House is so lovely and very well stocked with all the essentials. We played corn hole, bocce and croquet on the beautiful large, flat yard and had a couple nice nights making s'mores around the fire pit. Perfect location for an easy stroll to Main Street for great shopping and great restaurants. Right on the bike bath and a short mile down the street to the beach. The many bedrooms and baths, all with ceiling fans, were perfect for our large family. Large, very comfortable family room and dining room and we made good use of the office space.

We've stayed at dozens of places on the cape and this was easily one of our very favorites.

    Highly recommend!!

I was born in Denmark but spent much of my life traveling, living, and working in many countries, on most of the continents. My family has run hotels for several generations. I can appreciate how important it is to have a comfy, cozy place to come home to after a long day out and about on Cape Cod.
After years of crafting experiences for others, I decided to create a place of my own where guests can unwind, explore, and make lasting memories. Falmouth, with its sandy shores, has been the backdrop to many a summer dream. Our home here stands as a testament to the area's rich history and vibrant community spirit. It's a place where old-world charm meets modern comfort, where sunrise promises a day of wonder.

What is special about this property?
The home is a unique former Whaling Captain's residence built in the 1860s by Captain Thomas Lawrence. Captain Lawrence, a figure of resilience and adventure, was not only a prominent member of the local community but also the captain of three notable ships: the Addison, the Anaconda, and the Alto. He and his four brothers, all deeply ingrained in the whaling industry, contributed to the rich maritime history that defines Cape Cod and the Islands.

The estate's exterior, with its sunny front porch, whispers 18th Century charm and elegance, while the inside is all polished with crisp, tasteful Scandinavian design aesthetic. A former Inn, the house has six furnished bedrooms - each with en-suite bathroom and TV: two bedrooms on the first floor and four bedrooms upstairs. Very spacious, perfect for family gatherings or a large group of friends. The location is wonderful, as you can walk to the village, to Highfield Hall and all the trails behind it, as well as the Shining Sea bike path and countless other walks to trails around ponds and through estuaries.

What is special about your town?
Falmouth is a beautiful coastal town on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. It's known for its beaches, many of them across from the island of Martha's Vineyard. From the house, you can stroll to the quintessential Village of Falmouth with its shops, restaurants, cafes and bakeries; enjoy the fresh sea air on the beach; take a walk, run or a ride on one of the scenic bike paths, just a stone's throw away from your doorstep. Down the street 3 miles is the beautiful, small Woods Hole village, with ferries to the Vineyard and a small Science Aquarium - home to lots of marine life.
So come, let our home be your gateway to the Cape Cod experience—a place where stories come alive, laughter fills the air, and the ocean's melody lulls you to sleep. Here, in our Falmouth haven, let the magic of the Cape embrace you.
