Hello!

I am Diana Doane Anctil, 4th generation owner of 56 Pleasant St., Harwichport. I have been renting since 2023. The house was previously rented to vacationers by my parents in the 70's and 80's, and it became their residence in 1986 until 2022, lucky them:)

What is special about this property?
This property has been in my family for over 100 years, first owned by Walter Scott Doane in 1920. Walter was a sea captain. He sold the front part of the house (which was transported and attached to a house up the street !) and, as the story is told, built the two-story structure to resemble the bridge of a ship. In 1986 the kitchen was renovated and expanded to include the family room. This is the heart of the home, designed so that the food preparers can still be part of the party

This home has been the site of many family gatherings over the decades including reunions, vacations, Christmases and even a wedding. The picturesque barn has been photographed many times and is featured in a book about Cape Cod barns.

What is special about your town?
Harwichport has a bustling Main Street with a wide variety of shops and restaurants. Pleasant Street is only one block north from all the action. While Hport has multiple beaches and ponds, our favorite is Bank Street Beach which is a 10 minute walk from the house. Harwichport Golf Club, an easy municipal 9-hole course, is right up the street. Brooks Park in Harwich Center offers tennis, pickle ball and basketball courts and is the site of craft fairs and band concerts. Up the street from Brooks Park is Whitehouse Field the home of the Cape Cod Baseball League Harwich Mariners, a ''must do'' in the summer.
