Welcome to our home, Flowers of Paradise Farmhouse, built some time before 1858. Once the homestead of a blueberry farm, it is now graced with lovely flower gardens. This old house has been field tested and broken in for 2026. We spent a week in early July here with our adult children and five supercharged grandchildren. At the end of the week, the house remained standing! The grandkids had a blast collecting shells and sand crabs at Pleasant Road Beach. They splashed in the kids’ wading pools in the back yard. On cloudy days they walked two blocks over to the playground on the Dennis Port Village Green and when it was too cool to play at the beach, explored the children’s section of Dennis library a few steps past the green. We walked over one evening after dinner to the Holy Cow Ice Cream Café for some of the tastiest ice cream in the world. On our last evening, we sat in Adirondack chairs around the fire pit dazzled by flames jumping up from the fire pit.
The weather turned hot the day everyone arrived, so we put the window A/C units in place and found that they made our space a lot more comfortable. <br /> We enjoyed several meals at the picnic table in the back yard where the weather was cool in the evening. We cooked chicken, burgers, hot dogs and steak on the gas grill which is directly next to the picnic table. <br /> Entering the house you will feel the gentle support of wide-planked pine floors. On either side as you enter you will step into a comfortable sitting room where you can read or visit with your family and friends. A fireplace is the focal center of each room. To the left you will find the kitchen with its vintage Glenwood gas range and stove dating back to 1927. A simple, open air storage area in the kitchen displays the pots, pans and dishes you will use to cook your meals. <br /> Next to the kitchen and one of the sitting rooms is a lovely dining room with a table and six chairs. There is a fireplace in this room so you can enjoy your meals on cool mornings and nights with a fire in the fireplace. Moving beyond the kitchen into the sunroom you'll find another table together with a child’s wooden high chair where an additional six persons can dine or where you can play scrabble, munch on popcorn or join in card games, table games and other fun activities in the evening. There is a 55-inch screen television in this room as well as the router for the internet. There are both indoor and outdoor games in the cupboard.<br /> Moving in the opposite direction from the kitchen you enter the second sitting room which is ideal for quiet reflection and reading, with several reading lamps, a sofa and two carved chairs. If you didn't bring a book to read, take a look at one of the great books you'll find on our bookshelves. <br /> Leaving this sitting room you will find two first-floor bedrooms, each with its own wash room, bathtub and shower. There are a washer and a dryer in the bathroom of the master bedroom . <br /> Climb the steep, narrow, Captain's Stairs up to the second floor where there are three more bedrooms with classic sloping Cape Cod ceilings. One spacious room has a king size bed. Another has a full bed and the third has three twin beds and dresser drawers built into the wall. There are two bathrooms upstairs.<br /> When you arrive home after a day at the beach, you can jump into the outdoor shower to rinse the sand and salt from your body before walking into the house and your bedroom by way of the sunroom.<br /> We look forward to your inquiry and hope you will find refreshment and rest staying in our home. <br /> read more show less
