Welcome to Your New Happy Place

Don't just take our word for it, read the reviews:
''This was our 14th summer rental on the Cape and by far our favorite house.''
''Overall, best vacation rental I've experienced and highly recommended!''
''The house is fantastic and a perfect set up. Pictures really do not do it justice.''

The Map House is where fun lives and memories happen. A bright, air-conditioned sanctuary where generations gather around the kitchen counters, where friends reconnect over sunrise coffee, and where the paddles and flippers fly in the game room. This is the classic Cape, re-imagined for the modern family vacation.

Scroll down for our video tour and see why guests call this their favorite house.

Sleep Like You Mean It
Forget cramped quarters and musty mattresses. Every bedroom features a queen bed with Tempurpedic-style comfort, while the two spacious upstairs rooms add twin beds for any configuration of sleeping arrangements your party needs. Generous closets. Full baths on both floors. Powerful a/c to keep you comfortable. We provide hypoallergenic pillows, coverlets, and cozy fleece blankets. Prefer your own linens? Bring them. Want the full luxury experience? Use our high thread-count sheets and spa-quality towels for a small added cleaning fee. (You'll want to pack beach towels though.)

Where the Fun Lives
Two outdoor escapes: A deck with a relaxing hot tub perfect for stargazing sessions and sunset cocktails. A patio with a fire pit where stories get told and s'mores get burned (in the best way).

The Game Room is legendary. Dedicated space. Tournament-worthy ping-pong and pool. An arcade Jaws pinball machine that'll have grandparents and grandkids equally obsessed. A massive smart TV for movie marathons when someone finally admits they're beached-out. Gigabit WiFi blankets the property (sadly, strong enough for that ''quick'' work Zoom that definitely could've been an email).

The kitchen is a home cook's dream. Five-burner gas range. Every gadget and tool you didn't know you needed. Drip and French press for coffee how you like it. Space for everyone to help—or keep out of the way. (Fun fact: food made by guests here has been featured on The Today Show food blog.)

Outside? A Weber gas grill ready for steaks, fish, grilled veggies, whatever you crave. A large teak table for outdoor dining. The sprawling lawn with a rope swing, where kids can play cornhole or play frisbee while adults claim the oversized hammock. A fire pit second only to a beach bonfire for evening fun or an impromptu cocktail party. And the fully enclosed, hot and cold water, open to the sky outdoor shower--the way they rinse off the sand and salt in heaven.

We've got beach chairs, boogie boards, and all the coastal essentials you'd otherwise have to schlep.

When Paradise Takes a Rain Check
Not that you'll hope for cloudy days, but if one arrives, your fun won't miss a beat. Two large Smart TVs loaded with streaming services. Alexa streams your music indoors or out, works as a kitchen-to-Game-Room intercom, and delivers weather, tide times, and dinner ideas. The game room, a cabinet bursting with board games and puzzles, a library of books to browse.

Location, Location, Perfection
You're on the convenient ocean side of Route 6, which locals know is the difference between ''easy beach access'' and ''another 10 minutes in traffic.'' Town center? Five minutes. The legendary Cape Cod Rail Trail? A four-minute pedal to the trailhead for 23 miles of scenic riding to Dennis or Chatham—no Route 6 navigation required.

Beaches everywhere. Minutes to Indian Neck Bay beaches, your favorite ocean spot, or Wellfleet's stunning kettle ponds. Pile in the car and head to the Wellfleet Drive-In (7 minutes away) and its nostalgic double features under the stars. Summer also brings Wednesday night square dancing at the pier, theater, live music, art galleries, Pilates, beach yoga, and the kind of coastal culture that makes Wellfleet special.

Who's a Good Dog?
Dog families, we see you—we were you, suffering from too few excellent homes ready for Rover. Your well-behaved pup is welcome here for an additional fee (pending a conversation). The daily 8am dog party at Newcomb Hollow ocean beach will be your best friend's vacation highlight.

Charged & Ready (Literally)
EV or plug-in hybrid driver? We've got you covered with a Level 2 charger. Standard J1772 port compatibility, plus a Tesla adapter.

The Food Scene Deserves Its Own Vacation
Wellfleet takes eating seriously. Start mornings at PB Boulangerie with mouth-watering pastries that'll ruin you for other croissants, and that's just where you begin.

From flip flops to dress-up: Wicked Oyster's fresh catches for an occasion. Winslow's Tavern for elevated comfort food. Flying Fish for a wonderful family meal. Block & Tackle's smoky BBQ and super friendly staff. No-frills excellence at Moby Dick's. The Bookstore Cafe for bayside sunsets and unforgettable meals. Mac's Shack for raw bar and fine dining and Mac's at the Harbor for fast fare between excursions. Spinello's for take out Roman-style pizza with an amazing variety of toppings. PJ's for the Cape's best onion rings (fight us on this).

Sweet endings: A Nice Cream Stop (Emack & Bolio's heaven) and Gelato Joy's creative combos.

For home chefs: Hatch's Fish Market is your headquarters for live lobsters, smoked fish, incredible produce, and corn so sweet it's almost dessert. Want the absolute freshest scallops? Order right off the Isabel & Lilee day boat. Wednesday morning farmer's market near town center rounds out your options. Your well-equipped kitchen (and Weber grill) await your masterpieces.

The Map House is more than a rental. It's where your crew gathers, where traditions start, where ''one more night'' becomes the refrain of every vacation. This is where you belong this year. Our season runs May through October.

Your happy place is waiting. Book your dates now.

Long-Term Rental (1 month or more): The Map House is available for rentals of 1-5 months duration from Nov. 1, 2025—March 31, 2026; rent varies, $2400-$3600. We love off-season guests. Mini-split heating in the house and game room keeps you warm, and you can fire up the gas stove for an extra ration of cozy. Tenant will reimburse utilities and internet, which will remain in owner's name. You will get the benefit of the solar panels, though. A dog is welcome for long term guests. We winterize the hot tub in November, but we've sometimes kept it running all winter for guests who want it.

About our green amenities: Our home is primarily powered by a 9kW solar system to further our goal of reducing the home's carbon footprint as much as possible to help sustain the Cape's environment. We encourage EV owners to visit and use our Level 2 home charger (J1772 port and Tesla adapter available). And please, when you visit the beach, leave with more trash than you brought.

EV charger uses standard J1772 connection. We can provide an adapter for Teslas. We charge a $100/week fee for unlimited use of the charger for one vehicle. Our goal is to neither make nor lose money on this amenity, but to enable travelers to come to the Cape without adding to the climate change that has already taken a toll on this beautiful place.

    Best Friends Weekend
    October 2025

We had just the most wonderful 5 days on the Cape! The house, and the game room structure, were just perfect for every configuration of spending time together. The house is super-comfortable and set up perfectly for a vacation house. But one of the best things is the location: it is within a short distrnace of everything in Wellfleet: the waterfront, the beaches, the ponds. Just amazing. And Matt is a great host - responsive and friendly. We will be back!!

We're so glad you had fun and got to experience Oysterfest. October is a great time in Wellfleet and the temps may get a little cool at night but we still think of it as "second summer"—and what better times for the hot tub and fire pit? Thank you for leaving everything in great shape and for the lovely photo you texted us.

I can't say enough about our beautiful experience at The Map House. The house was spotless and well appointed. The kitchen is a dream, clearly designed for family meals/hanging out and access to deck & hot tub. Lots of printed info answering any possible question that might come up in or out of the house plus brochures about Wellfleet and surrounding areas.Thank you dear owners for your generous interest in the well being of your guests.

    Perfection in Wellfleet
    September 2025

Matt and Marie graciously hosted my family of four, parents, and dog for a week this summer. From the moment I reached out, Matt was friendly and so responsive and accommodating about every little thing. No question was too minor for him. Upon arrival, it was obvious that the same amount of care is put into the home. The layout was excellent, with spacious bedrooms and probably the best equipped kitchen in any house I've stayed in to date (and I rent a lot.) The cherry on top was the game room. Both the ping-pong table and new pinball machine were major hits amongst all ages - so much so that my only downside is that it was difficult to tear the family away from the house to go out for the day! At the end of the day, the fire pit and hot tub provided a wonderful respite. Any snags (which were so minor they're not even worth mentioning) were handled immediately and with the utmost professionalism by Matt. I also got a kick out of reading his highly detailed and also very humorous house guide. I couldn't recommend this house more - as far as rentals go, this is the best. show more show less

Thank you for the lovely review. When we added pinball, that was my wife's concern (I just love and want to spread pinball to a generation without arcades). But that's the balance trying to have a rainy-day-proof home.

Sorry too about the mess the previous guests left in the hot tub and that I was able to get our maintenance guy out right away to get you fresh, clear water. We're fortunate to have great service people on call for those rare occasions.

We hope to see you and your family back at the Map House in the future!show moreshow less

    Wish I Lived Here
    August 2025

We found this home on VRBO and saved a ton of money booking direct.

My family had such a wonderful time at the Map House! We played some very competitive ping pong, enjoyed making a fire on the last evening, and the kids had a blast on the swing- such great memories for all of us. New pinball machine was very entertaining. Also loved that all the beach gear we needed was provided.

The house felt cozy and welcoming, and we really appreciated having the space that was big enough for us to hang out all together. show more show less

We're delighted you had a great time (especially with the pinball, which is new since the middle of this summer). We love having multi-generational families and hope to see you again in the future.

And yes, for anyone who finds us both on VRBO or AirBnB and on WNAV, you save an awful lot of money booking direct. In addition to no booking fees, we also keep our prices lowest on WNAV, with much higher prices elsewhere to mitigate the commissions those sites charge us. I once calculated that the average guest saves over $1,500 booking direct. Hopefully, that money can go to dinners out and local attractions.show moreshow less

Our trip to beautiful Wellfleet was enhanced by staying in the wonderful Map House. On nights we didn't go out (mmm, Bock & Tackle... mmm, Wicked Oyster), we cooked up a storm in the kitchen. Our teens got their introduction to pinball in the game room and now we're going to have to find an arcade. We didn't get up early enough to get a bonfire permit, so we had our s'mores at the fire pit. The hot tub was surprisingly fun even in summer. Everything was clean and just perfect, the bedrooms were enormous, we couldn't have been more comfortable, and Matt & Marie are helpful and responsive hosts. show more show less

Yes, when we first started using hot tub in summer we were surprised too -- it had seemed like such a cooler weather thing. But you're right, it's awesome year round. We hope you turned all the inside lights off so you got the full glory of the spa under the starry sky. Glad you had fun, thanks for leaving the house in such great shape (our cleaner always reports who she wants as regulars and your family fit the bill).

    Another Great Stay!
    June 2025

This is our second year staying at The Map House pre-"season" - love the quiet of the Cape in June! Sunny days on the beach, the water's warm enough to venture in, no wait for restaurants - though the house/kitchen is so very well-appointed that we mostly ate in! Enjoyed the hot tub and game room (great option on a rainy day) and walkable roads! Five adults and one dog - plenty of space affording enough privacy and sociability for all! Thanks to Matt for another wonderful family vacation stay!

Back for more! Our second stay at the Map House
    May 2025

We returned to the Map House this year, after staying there for the first time a few years ago. Once again, Matt was eminently helpful and timely in getting us booked & made sure we knew what to expect when we showed up. The house was great, the wifi was rock-solid, the newly-upgraded hot tub was AWESOME, & the 1-2 questions we sent via text or email were answered by Matt within minutes. A++, would stay again.

    Wellfleet Wonder
    September 2024

The Map House was so relaxing, comfortable, clean, and well appointed. The owners were very available and excellent communicators before, during and after our stay. Conveniently located to all the excellence that Wellfleet and the outer Cape have to offer. Our group enjoyed the hot tub, the large deck, and separate rec room…. and the outdoor shower was heaven after a long beach & pond day.

    Fun Family Vacation
    June 2024

We had the best time at the Map House with my two year old. The rest of my family came down as well and the place was great for the 7 of us. The location of this home is perfect and allowed us to go to several different places in a short drive. We spent several days at bay side beaches which was perfect for my toddler. We also went to Newcomb Hollow Beach on the ocean side which was a lot of fun too. The Audubon Wildlife Sanctuary is in Wellfleet and was a fun trip for us as well. Ptown was a quick 20 min drive from the house and we went there a few times ax well. Our favorite restaurants in Wellfleet were the Bookstore Restaurant and PJ's.

The house itself is great and has everything you need for a week long getaway. Matt was very easy to communicate with and the house was well equipped with necessities. The outdoor shower was incredible and we used it often.

We had a great time in Wellfleet and the Map House and look forward to coming back again.

    FABulous!
    June 2024

What a fun week we spent at The Map House in Wellfleet - it started the minute we walked in to this clean, bright, roomy, welcoming home away from home! We five adults and one dog spread out, claimed beautiful bedrooms, and got right down to cooking in the well-appointed kitchen. A rainy Sunday was spent in the game room playing ping-pong... and more cooking! The rest of the week was sunny and warm - a treat in June - we swam in the bay and walked along the ocean (all just a few minutes drive from the house), hiked the local cliffs, visited Wellfleet proper as well as Ptown, and rode bikes with easy access to the Cape Cod Rail Trail. Our evenings were spent relaxing in the hot tub or by the fire pit! It was the perfect family vacation in the perfect house... and special thanks to Matt who was responsive in minutes before, during and even after our stay! We've already booked for next year! show more show less

Hi, our names are Matt & Marie. Matt has been coming to Wellfleet with his family ever since he was 4 years old (he's considerably older now) and Marie fell in love with the town since her first visit in the mid-90's and hasn't missed a summer since.

It's important to us that you have as good a time there as we do and we've done everything we can think of to make that happen. Decades of experience as renters has motivated us to solve every issue we've encountered ourselves over the years. When we started renting the Map House in 2019 we committed to providing a completely livable home with modern amenities and fun things to do no matter the season or weather.

Wellfleet is the best family vacation spot anywhere and we look forward to being your home there.

What is special about this property?
The great thing about the Map House is that it is a home, not merely a vacation house. It's outfitted so that a large family or combinations of families can comfortably live here. Everything works as you'd want and expect. The smart home features add ease, entertainment, and information. We've stocked up on board games, puzzles, and many on demand video sources to ensure that there is fun to be had for any age, taste, and weather condition. We are climate controlled for all four seasons.

We turned the barn into a killer game room, with Ping Pong, a Pool table, and a massive TV.

The fire pit makes for an excellent end of the evening get together.

The hot tub is great at any time of year, with a spacious outdoor shower a few feet away.

The back yard is perfect for kids to run around and play, or just take a nap in the hammock.

And the kitchen is stocked to the brim with everything you need to make an awesome meal, except the food itself.

We have solar panels, energy efficient heating/cooling and appliances, green cleaning supplies, and an EV charger.

What is special about your town?
There is no way to do justice in words to how wonderful a place Wellfleet is, at any time of year. Ocean beaches, calmer Bay beaches, freshwater ponds, all within a few square miles. Amazing food, art, culture, cycling, surfing, paddle boarding, tennis, pickleball, sailing, fishing, boating, birding, stargazing (seriously, check out the Perseid meteor shower if you come in August)... you name it, it's great here.
