Told the Basement Bedroom and Bathroom were NOT HABITABLE the FIRST DAY of our vacation
    August 2026

Andrew let us know twelve days prior to our vacation that the basement had flooded but that the bedroom and bathroom were fully habitable after carpeting and dry wall were removed. I let Andrew know that our teen-aged children would be sleeping there so as long as there were no concerns, that should be fine. Andrew never responded to this email. Then, on the first day of our vacation (as we were packing up our car to head to the Cape!), Andrew emailed us to say that he had just learned that the basement bedroom and bathroom were completely inhabitable. At that time, he did not offer any restitution, just an apology. We called him immediately and told him we felt we were owed a refund of 1/4 of the money as we lost access to one of the four bedrooms. He obliged this request. We then let Andrew know that we were uncomfortable with workers working in the home during our vacation and asked him to confirm that they would not be there during our family vacation. He let us know that workers were indeed coming and that they would be respectful and use a separate entrance. Both of these things were true, but unfortunately for us, the workers were there all week, Monday through Friday, using power tools, sanding and cutting cedar planks, making noises and smells while we tried to relax, cook, and enjoy the space. The workers were there until 7pm on multiple occasions. It was so disruptive to our time and we all felt increasingly frustrated that this was put upon us while we were paying for a serene family vacation space. It wasn't just the loss of the bedroom. It was the loss of our peace.

On the cleanliness note, the house was not in any way filthy, but it was not in perfect move-in condition either. Our bedroom trash can upstairs was full with someone else's trash. There were leftover restaurant containers of someone else's food in the refrigerator. There was water in the handsoap in the bathroom upstairs (not handsoap), and the quilts on the beds felt like they had not been laundered in some time, so we took that task upon ourselves on day one. Honestly, the cleanliness was the least of our concerns, but thought I would explain why I did not give 5 stars.

The home itself was very pleasant, beautiful location, and lovely living space. We did enjoy being there in the mornings and evenings, and wished very much that our kids could have been with us. Unfortunately, because of the last minute-ness of the situation and the expense of lodging at the cape, the best we could do was to secure two consecutive nights at a nearby motel for our teenagers.

I ended up emailing Andrew after our vacation had concluded to let him know how disrupted our experience was due to the serious basement work being done. Because there was so much redeeming about the home itself, though, I asked if he would be interested in renting to us again for a week next summer at a somewhat discounted rate, to account for our challenges in the home. After ten days without a response to my email, I followed up with Andrew once more. He responded the following day, apologized for the delay, and provided additional compensation.

I hope very much that future vacationers in this home this summer do not have similar experiences as ours, but I imagine the poor renters the week after us suffered similarly the way we did, as the basement still had a ways to go before completion. Obviously, the basement construction will conclude, but the way Andrew handled this situation really says something about him as a landlord. Hard to imagine he did not know about the state of the basement until the day of our vacation. We really felt like he should have let us know as soon as he knew, and offered either a full refund or at least grant us to stay without the invasiveness of having workers there. The home was not fully habitable as advertised. And putting up with work being done on your home is annoying even when it is your own home! To put up with it on so

    Owner Response:

We are truly sorry that you had a disappointing week. Our hope is that everyone gets to share the joys of Wellfleet in the summer. We clearly let you down. We relied on and shared the information we had from the contractors as we received it, but in retrospect, we could have and should have handled the situation differently. The basement repairs have been completed and we are taking steps to prevent future flooding. We have also discussed the cleanliness issues with our usually reliable cleaning service and received assurances that this won't happen again.
We are pleased that you found our home to be very pleasant, a beautiful location, and a lovely living space and would welcome you back to give us a second chance.

    A Delightful Home
    August 2025

We have been visiting Wellfleet for almost 50 years. This home is definitely one of our favorites!
It is in a secluded spot but is easily accessible by foot or car to the center of Wellfleet. This home is a comfortable and exceptionally well-stocked home to the point that we did not have to purchase basic necessities. One of the features that we took full advantage of was the wrap-around deck. The floor-to-ceiling windows/sliding doors in the dining area brought the outside to the inside.

    Love Wellfleet
    June 2025

We truly enjoy every moment of our vacation in Wellfleet. The stress melts away as we cross the Sagamore Bridge and head to our favorite vacation spot on Cape Cod. The house is spacious, secluded and just right for our family. We have made this our go-to spot as the familiarity helps build our routine. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything necessary for a week away. Beautiful new, updated bathrooms make the house a respite from the busy world. Knowing the comforts of home are at the house makes this a must-stay location, with puzzles and games for the kids, outdoor water sport activities nearby, close to hiking and the pier. show more show less
