Wellfleet Harbor, on the Bluff Vacation Rental - ID 5527

Words like "Amazing!" and "Awesome!" don't begin to describe our recent experience at Fairwinds. Former long-time Massachusetts residents, we came up from Florida to spend two weeks on Cape Cod with family members who still reside here (our daughter, son-in-law, and the world's best 2-year-old granddaughter!). The home was even more than we hoped for when we saw the pictures and read the online description. Absolutely beautiful setting, and extremely well-appointed with household goods.

Our granddaughter had the time of her life on the lower deck watching birds, bunnies, chipmunks, and even a huge Tom turkey visit the yard. A very short walk down a path took her to a beach with gentle waves, sand-castle sand, horseshoe crabs, fiddler crabs, minnows, and nice breezes for kite-flying. She also loved watching the boats go in and out from the town pier. We adults loved all that too, plus the beautiful views, ocean breezes, gorgeous sunsets, and star-filled nighttime skies. We also often noted how really, really quiet it was! Many nap-time afternoons were spent on the upper and lower decks reading and soaking up sunshine. And yes, the grown-ups napped too!

And what a convenient location: right on the beach. But just a short drive took us to Marconi Beach for the "big waves" and seal viewing, or to First Encounter Beach for sunset walks and photos. We split our meals between eating at home and sampling Cape Cod food places, all of which were a short drive away. Eating at home was easy. Plenty of dishes, glassware, flatware, platters, utensils, and so on. The Webber grill made me BBQ legend in the family! And whether we ate inside or outside, the views were always spectacular. When we wanted to go out, just a few minutes in the car took us to full breakfast or just coffee and donuts, as well as to wonderful lunch and dinner spots like the Bookstore, Mac's Shack, Moby Dick's, PJ's, and lots more.

We were all absolutely thrilled with our stay at Fairwinds in Wellfleet, and hope to make this a recurring experience for our family. Thank you so much Matt and Kathy for making this experience available to us.

Fairwinds is the first place we've rented--and we've rented a LOT of places whether on the Cape or internationally (remember when we traveled internationally?) -- that feels like our home away from home. We would happily spend as much time here as possible, although that might mean less time for the actual owners!--who, by the way, were easily accessible and able to answer any questions we had (and their house tips handbook is one of the best-organized resources we've seen). We spent our time there exuding sighs of contentment as we took in the view-whether of the harbor or of the many birds we tried to identify on the Merlin app, and we can't wait to return.

Another testimonial: we have several close friends who own houses on the outer Cape (one of the reasons we like to visit!) who came over for meals because we had been waxing so eloquent about how spectacular this property is...and not surprisingly, they, too, fell in love with Fairwinds. A huge thanks to Kathy and Matt for sharing their home with us. We are already counting the days until next summer.

Thank you again for sharing your lovely home with our family. We enjoyed having a great space for all of us to gather, share meals, and play the wonderful games you have for guests. The decks were perfect for outdoor dining, jaw-dropping sunsets, and star-gazing. The secluded beach was wonderful for our two year old grandson who took delight in the fiddler crabs and beach combing with his grandpa. As it has been for the past few years, the weather was quite hot and humid, so having a house with air conditioning is key to enjoying a vacation. We also enjoyed watching the wildlife: hawks, ospreys. seals, all kinds of gulls and seabirds. It's like Wild Kingdom!

COVID has changed Wellfleet; the first week was much more quiet than we've ever seen. It was no problem to make a left turn onto Rt. 6 at any time of day (the second week got a little busier). The businesses have instituted social distancing rules and mask requirements, and thankfully, everyone was complying. Let's hope a safe and effective vaccine is on the not-too-distant horizon.

We loved this house with the most perfect view of Wellfleet Harbor. I mean it REALLY is perfect. The house is great, too, but it's all about the view, which is fully visible while sitting inside on the sofa as well as outside on either the balcony or the patio. The boats going back and forth entertained us for days on end, and we were on the patio pretty much from waking up until after dinner. We cooked more than we usually do on vacation, and the kitchen is very well stocked with any possible pan, plate or spice available. The owners are easily accessible via text should you need anything, but you probably won't. They've thought of all the little details that make a vacation rental comfortable and pleasant. We are already talking about whether we might try to go back in September or October, so it's a hit with us.

We have been coming to Fairwinds for many years, and can't think of anywhere we'd rather be! The views are spectacular and the house is lovely, comfortable, and clean with all the amenities you would want in a vacation home. The owners are super responsive and helpful. You would be lucky to stay here.

This may be the perfect vacation home. We loved it, inside and out!

Best bits: the wall of windows that look out onto the harbor, the pleasant nature walk to Wellfleet, the quiet, the wildlife in the air and water, the activity on the pier. You are close to the middle of things, but far enough away for privacy and quiet when you want them.

This home is tastefully decorated and well-equipped. The airy interior architecture feels sunny at all times. The place was spotless when we arrived and delightful for our two weeks there. There was room for us to spread out as well as plenty of time spent together playing board games or reading in the open-plan living room with spectacular views of the harbor.

Our hosts were kind and gracious when we had to make a special request.

Bring your binoculars or borrow the hosts' because there was plenty of bird watching (cormorants, loons) and sea life (seals, sunfish) to keep us jumping up and calling everyone to take a look.

We will be back!

This is a great place to stay for a week in Wellfleet. Gorgeous water views from all over the house. Easy to get to Wellfleet Center, beaches, lakes, and bike trail. Fully outfitted kitchen and beautiful outdoor eating area are especially good features since we wanted to have dinner at the house every night to see the sunset over the water.

I have been coming to Wellfleet for 30 years. I have rented many places, some better than others. I have not enjoyed myself as much as I did last week at Kathy’s place overlooking the harbor.

I was not sure what to expect. Pictures just don’t do it justice. The vibe was relaxed, welcoming and comfortable. The views were amazing. We were made to feel welcome.

The rooms were lovely, neat as a pin. The view from the main level sitting room was the greatest. The grounds were beautifully maintained by the gardener who came by on Wednesday.

We love to visit the Beachcomber, Winslow’s and the Bookstore. All were a 5 minute drive.

We took advantage of the lovely deck and small beach. I simply can’t say enough about this vacation.

Can’t wait to get back next summer.

We spent a week at Fairwinds for the second time, this time with our two little kids (ages 4 and 1). The house is perfect for families, with the beach just below to play on, and wonderful sunset views to enjoy after the kids are asleep. Our older son enjoyed watching the boats in the channel/marina, and paddling our rented kayak across the bay to get dinner and ice cream. The house is spotless and has every amenity you might need with kids: Pack n Play, baby gates, sand toys, etc. The kitchen is well stocked and easy to use. And the owners are extremely friendly and responsive. The only downside is that we had to leave!

We are off-season travelers and this was the perfect house to stay in for our return to the Cape. Communicating with the owners was easy and a pleasure, prior to the rental, during and after as well. The location is absolutely fantastic. We prefer the Outer Cape region and Wellfleet is just about the perfect spot for access to both bayside and the seashore, P-Town and Chatham. The house itself is fully and I mean fully equipped. We cooked-in every night but one and the kitchen was completely stocked with every pot, pan, dish, glass and spices galore. Not to mention olive oil and other various and sundry culinary needs. The beds were more than comfortable, the view stupendous and the beach access unparalleled. The wifi worked beautifully and the house was always warm enough, even in November. The owners went above and beyond to ensure that our experience was pleasant and our stay was 5-star...it was! Highly recommended we will be back next year!

Our family of 5 adults and a 1-year-old loved our first stay at Fairwinds. The space felt welcoming from the moment we opened the front door. We enjoyed bright natural light throughout the home and the beautiful views from the upper deck, lower deck, the living room looking out a wall of windows, the bedrooms - from all directions - all amazing. We particularly appreciated the well stocked kitchen with nice wine and beverage glasses, serving dishes and utensils, spices, pans, everything we needed for fun dinners. Adults and our 1-year-old enjoyed the beach and the provided beach chairs, umbrella and sand toys. We walked to town every day. We loved being able to grill.

We've vacationed at various places throughout Cape Cod for 15 years. This is a top location and home with owners who clearly care about creating a wonderful experience for their guests. We hope to be back next summer.

We had the fortune of staying at Fairwinds for the week of July 4th. The location is great. We walked to the 4th of July parade.

There’s a nice, quiet beach right in front of the house and they had tons of beach toys, chairs, etc. Morning strolls were so peaceful.

The patio was a definite highlight. We spent every morning having breakfast outside while watching the boats come in and out of the harbor. It was gorgeous.

The house was fully stocked/everything we needed in the kitchen and everything was well organized. We had a couple of babies in our group, and they had everything we needed to feel comfortable such as dishware, a highchair, beach toys, baby gates, a pack n play, etc.

The owners left detailed instructions for everything, which was super helpful. Finally the owner, Kathy, was very responsive to any inquiries, both timely in her replies (within 24 hours) and complete answers to all questions.

Fairwinds is a perfect spot for a family with young kids seeking a quieter time on the Cape (which is exactly what we wanted). The view is spectacular - my son loved watching the boats in the harbor from the living room window (and we loved watching the sunsets after he had gone to bed!) We loved being able to walk right down to the beach to see crabs, build sandcastles, and swim. The house itself is lovely without being too fancy for messy toddlers, and has every convenience imaginable. The new owners were great to work with - their communications before our stay were clear and they checked in to make sure we had everything we needed. We hope to go back again!

I stayed in this house many times when it belonged to the previous owner, and I was delighted to find that Kathy and her husband have maintained all the good things about "Fairwinds". The beds and furniture are very comfortable, the cupboard well stocked with staples for guests' use, and the place is very clean. I highly recommend the walk to town along the beach/Uncle Tim's bridge, being careful to avoid the multitude of fiddler crabs; simply gazing out the windows at the amazing panorama provides fine entertainment. A marvelous vacation spot!

You have gorgeous views of Wellfleet Harbor from this well-equipped house. You can walk across Uncle Tim's Bridge into town, watch sunsets from the deck, and stroll directly down to the water. It's one of the prettiest spots in Wellfleet. Kathy and Matt keep the house beautifully. We can't wait to come back next year.

This was a house that feels much more like a private home than a rental. Beautiful views abound - you are never missing anything in this house. The owners were fabulous and attentive. We will be back for more!

We have been coming to the Cape since college days in the . . . yes, '60's and Wellfleet has always been our favorite. This property will allow any client to truly enjoy the isolation of the Outer Cape. Great views, close to great eateries, the Bay, the Ocean and P'town. Like they said in Field of Dreams:
"Is this heaven?" "No, it's Wellfleet"

Words cannot do justice to the serenity found at Fairwinds. The 180 degree water view, watching the fishing boats leave in the morning and return at night to Wellfleet harbor, walking along the beach or just watching the birds and chipmunks. it was heavenly. It was the perfect environment to renew old friendships as 5 other nurses and I met after not seeing each other for almost 47 years.

There is so much to see and do in the area for adults as well as children. I would recommend Fairwinds for families or friends for any occasion. You will not be disappointed. The house is well stocked with everything you need and more to enjoy your stay. The one problem you will have is not wanting to leave.

What a house! The light flowing in through the enormous windows on the entire harbor-side of the home, up and down, was spectacular. As were the sunsets--just gorgeous. The home itself, well, we sure felt like we were on vacation--even though we ate in all meals but one. That's how special this house is. The location is a nice 10-15 walk into Wellfleet center, as well as close to any other trail we wanted to bike or explore. It was perfect. It was quiet, scenic, with ever-changing tides and harbor views, and convenient to food-stores as well as the OysterFest! We were 6 adults (couple plus two daughters and husbands), with a lot of space and time to enjoy each others' company (and fireplace fire) as well as have necessary distance in our bedrooms. The house is outfitted beautifully, with everything you would think of for a week's stay.

The home is very tastefully outfitted -- furniture, rugs, paintings, dishes, obvious comfortability, and patio-deck garden area. Oh-the birds! How could I forget! They're hungry little things, and so varied and fun to watch. We kept the bird feeder stocked daily, as they needed to compete with squirrels for their share.

We loved everything about Fairwinds; location, privacy, sunlight, moonlight, sunsets, style, comfort, and layout. We had a perfect vacation and look forward to a return visit. Thank you!

We needed a relaxing late fall break from our hectic schedules. Over the past three or four years, Cape Cod has become our breakaway destination. We've tried many houses in many Cape Cod locations but we think we've found the perfect one. It's called "Fairwinds" and is located in Wellfleet on a beach beside the harbor.

I love cruise ships and "Fairwinds" reminds me of an elegant yacht. Of course, it's much more spacious than a yacht but entering the house one has the feeling of being on a ship. There's lots of open space and light fills the house from the many windows. There are several decks from which to watch activity in the harbor: fishing boats, kayaks, sailboats, clam diggers, soaring gulls, lapping waves. But, unlike most yachts, "Fairwinds" also boasts two wood-burning fireplaces. The house has a comfortable living-dining room and a kitchen equipped with all the amenities, as well as two bathrooms and two large and one small bedroom. There's even a beautifully planted garden overlooking the harbor with a birdbath and a birdfeeder.

Although many of the restaurants in and around Wellfleet are closed or have limited hours at this time of year, we found enough open to keep us happy - the unpretentious Bookstore and Restaurant and the homey Lighthouse as well as the superlative PB Boulangerie, all closeby. PB Boulangerie is located only a ten minute drive from "Fairwinds" and was so good that we dined there four times in ten nights, including having Thanksgiving dinner.

When not enjoying the comfortable home, we spent our time doing many of our favorite Cape Cod things: strolling Provincetown, gallery looking in Chatham, antique hunting in Yarmouth. We also managed to fit in some of our favorite nature walks: Pilgrim Spring Trail, Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary and the walks at the Cape Cod National Seashore Salt Pond Center.

Best of all was returning "home" to "Fairwinds" at the end of each day to a glass of wine and the glorious lingering sunsets from one of the decks.

Fire, wind, wine, gleaming wood, art, books, breaching right whales, mussels, oysters, hawks, sun, storm fronts, haddock, flounder, Joe's, Mac's, sunset, sunrise, window in the shower, window at the pillow, heather, hulled seeds, air, surfers, crashing waves, lapping waves, millions of stars, wind-tossed gulls, chickadees, bullying jays, clever crows, persistent squirrels. My wife Alida and I have stayed at this extraordinary home for five years. As a previous Wellfleet resident who currently lives in Brooklyn, I cherish this town most in the off season - when tranquility and the raw, simple beauty of the landscape/seascape are unforgettable. For this reason, all of our returns to ‘Fairwinds’ have been in April and March.

The home itself is ideally situated on a bluff that hovers high above Wellfleet harbor, providing outstanding views of journeying fishing boats, oyster diggers, Jeremy’s Point, Great Island and Wellfleet Bay. Sunsets from this vantage point are tremendous. The many, many windows of the house insure picturesque views from inside at all times, and watching the weather and atmosphere change over the water is an intrinsic and mystical part of an off-season retreat here. When you are ready to head outdoors, throw on a sweater or light jacket and head down to the beach - just a few steps from the back deck. Take a right at the water and walk through the marsh and woods of Duck Creek to town center taking Uncle Tim’s bridge. Go left and circle around the Cove beach to Indian Neck point.

Modern, spacious & bright, the house is creatively decorated and decidedly uplifting. This place does not feel like a summer rental inside, which is important in the chillier months: it is comfortable, warm and inviting. All the amenities are at hand, including great cookware, a serious Weber grill, washing machine & dryer, dishwasher, sound & video system and copious amounts of household ‘stuff’ like paper towels, aluminum foil, etc., etc.. Basically, all you need to bring are your clothes, towels and sheets – everything else is there, including a hand-compiled notebook of instructions and recommendations.

Although the town is pretty quiet in March and April there are a handful of good restaurants open as well as Wellfleet Market. We enjoy picking up some lunch from town and heading over to eat at the ocean or bay, sometimes from Wellfleet points, sometimes from Truro points. Walks on the beach are great this time of year and often you will have the sand all to yourself. Last visit we lucked out and followed a family of whales jumping around in the water off of Mayo Beach.

You will want to return to this house again and again for sure.

This is such a beautiful, magical place. We had a fabulous time, and May turned out to be a great time for a vacation on the Cape! We loved walking into town on the path, exploring, and just enjoying the peace and quiet and spectacular views. I filled the bird bath and feeder so Anna (our 2 1/2 year old) and I enjoyed watching the many birds that visited us throughout the weekend (we also saw a little red squirrel, a bunny, and a hummingbird). Anna loved chasing crabs, running on the beach, and digging in the sand.

This house is such a great place for children of any age to have a true Cape Cod adventure! It was also great that a pack-n- play, highchair, and some sand toys are provided...it's nice not to have to lug all that stuff from home. All in all, a perfect time! We loved everything about the place and made some very happy memories there. We would love to return someday.

Just wanted to let you know that we had a perfect two weeks in your lovely home. The weather couldn’t have been nicer; we enjoyed many meals on the deck soaking in the views and enjoying the family of rabbits along with the butterflies (and hummingbirds! Lots of them in the evenings). We were really sorry to see the time come to an end. Counting down til next year…

We had a wonderful stay in Wellfleet. Your house is beautiful, the views are beautiful, we kayaked on Gull Pond, we took a Nauset March cruise with Mass Audubon, we gorged ourselves on seafood ... it was really great! Wish there was a way to transport Cape Cod a little closer to Chicago. Glad this worked out & thanks for being so flexible. Have a wonderful summer.

We had an amazing time at Fairwinds! The house is wonderful - full of light, great view of Wellfleet Harbor, funky artwork (loved the light switches!) - and had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable and relaxing. We were transfixed watching the tides, birds, and boats from the giant windows all throughout the day. The guidebooks and binoculars were a great addition. We already loved the town of Wellfleet and it was nice to be so close to everything (library, market, and my favorite, the Wicked Oyster). We also appreciated you checking when we arrived; it really made us feel welcome! I would absolutely recommend Fairwinds to anyone looking for a vacation rental on the Cape and am already looking forward to the next time I can stay there. Thanks for everything!
