This is a year-round home, built around a converted central barn, which now contains the master bedroom and bath upstairs and a dining room and fireplace living room with waterviews and a separate sitting/tv room downstairs.

The two flanking wings (built in 1993) comprise a modern gourmet eat-in kitchen with commercial range and fireplace, and on the other side a bedroom wing with two large downstairs bedrooms (1 queen, 1 double) and bath and a floor-thru upstairs bedroom with a double bed and two twins and separate bath.

The front deck has a view of Menemsha Harbor and Aquinnah and the ocean beyond. Away from the water side is a flower garden, out buildings, and a large lawn area shaded with mature oaks. Menemsha with its harbor full of boats, its two fish markets, grocery store, antique and clothing shops and Menemsha Beach itself is a short walk away. You will also have access to Lucy Vincent and Squibnocket, two magnificent surfside beaches.

    Magical!
    The property was enchanting and beyond what we expected. My family of 10 traveled from the west coast to Martha's Vineyard to celebrate a wedding. The property was perfect for our large group in every way - spacious, lovely common space, room comfort, extensive kitchen supplies and wonderful back deck overlooking the Menemsha Bay offer each evening breathtaking sunsets. The property's grounds are expansive with a beautiful natural simplicity that included a garden with fresh vegetables that we were encouraged to eat. We hope to return next summer! The Kahl Family

    Wonderful retreat in Menemsha
    For those that want to enjoy the quiet beauty of Menemsha this home is in a wonderful location and has an abundance of charm. The views of the bay and the setting of the house are magnificent. The house itself has an amazing kitchen with anything one might want to prepare a gourmet meal and the rest of the house is very comfortably furnished and decorated with local curios and artwork to add to the charm of this home . Outside there is access to a vegetable garden, and lovely grounds (with hammock!). The owner is readily accessible and helpful with suggestions as needed. HIghly recommended!

    I started to build the house in 1983, then as as a post and beas''barn'' workshop. In 1993 we added the kitchen and bedroomn wings and furnace/air conditioning and it has since been a year round (not so often used in winter) house for tthe family which has come to the Vineyard since 1938, always in Chilmark \/Menemha.

    What is special about this property?
    With exposed beams and rafters, etc., the central section has a 18th century feel with 21st century amenities. The ''garden'' aide of the house offers a restful vista of a big lawn nd a few mature oak trees; the ''water''side has views of Gay Head, Menemsha Harbor, and Cuttyhunk & the Elizabeth Islands, and the deck is a place to get a tan and to sit down to a meal or just enjoy the view.

    What is special about your town?
    Menemsha, is a busy and complex place: it is a bona vide fishing villages, with a dock lined with lobster boats and draggers and, at the other end of the dock , pleasure boats , both local and in transit..with more moored in the harbor itstelf. The adjacent public beach is busy most of the day and in early evening there is a ceremonial observance of the sunset which brings crowds and occasionally musical accompaniement (parking is hard to find at such times but it is just a ten minute walk to the beach from the house.). On basin road there are galleries,an antique store, and two clothes shops.
