    Home on Nantucket

My family has been renting this house for the past 5 years, and we cannot imagine staying anywhere better. Besides the location being second to none, the house's unique charms make it feel like the real Nantucket. David is very responsive and welcoming, and it's always a comfort to know that the caretakers are on site for any emergencies or needs. When we want to eat out, it's just a ten minute walk to Town; when we want to eat in, the kitchen is full of everything we need for a delicious dinner (not to mention, the house is just a few blocks away from the best local seafood market). Our dog particularly loves the big courtyard ;) We will continue to come back to this house for as long as we can! show more show less

Location nice, condition of home poor, photos very old

This looks good from the photos but I must provide my input as I stayed here for a week in fall 2023. This home is suffering from deferred maintenance, the photos are very old, there is no grass in the yard, weeds in the Fri t step, no potted plants and worse the patio furniture was filthy, the interior brick to glass wall of windows was damp and water leaking from yrs of rain. The upstairs carpet was very dirty, stained. The second bedroom was so forty, carpet, bedding , lamps not functioning. The fire and gas alarms had been removed and disconnected. The wurst was the big out building which the owners states a care taker lives. However that caretaker is gone and an influx of mostly unhelpful people come and go. Trash littering the yard area which this owner says " isn't part of the lease" but is 100% visible from the home. The doors do not shut and locking them is difficult. The tenants in the back leave trash, bikes and whatever spewed all over the yard. There is an old and unkept green house that links the home to this same out building that was littered with chemical bottles, spilled toxic solutions, broken and rotting furniture and old rusting AC window units. It was like a birder's dream land. Yes, i contacted the owner about the unsightly conditions, he simply stated that they home was that way. I had to clean up the 10+ bottles of leaking weed and bug solution , and try to conseal the rotting border room, which didn't work since it was viewable from the home. It's just really unkind to have so much direction from this owner on how to care for his home and bedding in the pre check in email, and then to see the old stained pillows, uncomfortable AC units and damp home. The life saving gas detectors and the gas range that didn't light properly was concerning. The foot high weeds that surrounded the front of the home and rotten bike rack ( rotted to pieces, as in a pile of sticks) …lastly. Two bikes sit in the middle of the living area, double locked and in the way, with a note" not for use". But they are in the front hallway. The Fri t statues aren't stairs. They are like a ladder without proper footholds or hand railing. Clearly not safe. show more show less

We endeavor to provide all our guests with a clean, attractively appointed, well-equipped, and well-functioning home that is ready for vacationers to enjoy during their stay. We were very sorry that, unlike our many happy guests from 2023 and past years, this vacationer wasn't pleased with her stay. Many of the areas complained about were not within the primary rental house or grounds but in adjacent areas primarily used by the on-site property caretaker. We accurately represent in our listing and in our communications with guests the areas that are for guest use and enjoyment, and which are primarily used by the caretaker. Regarding items in the rental house, we provide information to our guests before arrival on how to use some where it might not be self-evident; we place labels in locations we think will be helpful; and we always offer to answer any questions that may arise during a stay so that guests will know how to operate items the vacationer commented were not working. We have re-caulked the atrium picture window to keep rain out and -- as before every rental season -- we address the wear and tear from the previous rental season by refreshing linens, rugs and carpets, slipcovers, as well as landscaping. We have also instructed our caretaker and cleaners to be more attentive to the kinds of issues the vacationer mentioned in order to ensure that all our future vacationers enjoy their stay with us.show moreshow less

    Wonderful rental

We loved our week in this charming, true-to-Nantucket house. Great location in historic old town, a full and functional kitchen, comfortable living and dining areas and quiet and restful bedroom. The owners were easy to work with, quick to respond and welcoming. It was a terrific way to experience Nantucket.

    Great Rental!!!!

We were so lucky to find this rental. David could not have been nicer and more accommodating. The cottage was so clean and welcoming. The bathroom off the master bath has a big shower with lighting. From the pictures I thought it would be smaller. I was pleasantly surprised at how roomy and airy the cottage felt. The television in the master bedroom came in handy for cozy nights and our daughter loved the bunk beds. David gave us all the information we needed for our stay and was so responsive to any questions we had. We hope we can come and visit again! show more show less

    Perfect Escape!

We stayed in David’s house for a week. Everything is just as described! David left a binder full of useful information on the house as well as Nantucket. We used the maps often! We emailed him a question, and got a prompt response. A few highlights about this property: We were able to drop our luggage off prior to our check in time. (This was a huge perk as we took the 6:30 ferry from Hyannis.) We were able to bring our Boston Terrier. (David even had a doggie blanket we could put on the couch.) Beach chairs, umbrella, and a cooler were available for use. The grill and kitchen allowed us to eat in often. Location was perfect: we were able to easily stroll into town every night after dinner! We would definitely stay here again! Thanks, David, for sharing your house with us! show more show less

    Nantucket charm

We had a great weekend at this beautiful, cozy home! Easy walk to town yet quietly tucked away from the crowds. The house had everything we needed and more. Not to mention so much character! David was very responsive and helpful. He provided detailed instructions for our arrival and helpful hints for our stay. We hope to stay here again sometime soon! Thanks David!

Lovely, well-equipped home in a great location

We were fortunate to spend three nights at David's house just after Labor Day. The house is the perfect size for two couples, with plenty of room to spread out and everything we needed for our stay -- including beach chairs, towels and umbrella, a barbecue, and a terrific kitchen. It is immaculate and clearly well cared-for; everything worked faultlessly while we were there. The house is even closer to the town center than it appears from the map and we all enjoyed the short walk back home after dinner in the main part of town. As an added bonus it's just a few blocks from one of our favorite Nantucket Restaurants, 56 Union. We hope to return again! show more show less

We really enjoyed our stay here. Located in a quiet, adorable neighborhood, away from the hustle and bustle of downtown, yet within easy walking access to the town stores and restaurants and the Nantucket bus routes and bike paths. (We opted to go without a car this summer). The house had everything we needed for an easy vacation, including beach gear - umbrella, chairs, towels, etc. The kids really loved the in-wall bunks and the adults enjoyed use of the massive gas stove and the excellent water pressure in the showers. The appliances are all updated and the house is well-maintained. Working with the owner was a pleasure. He seems to have thought of everything a renter would need (maps, guides, information, etc.) and maintained excellent communication with us. show more show less
