9 Red Sox Players Who Played in the Cape Cod Baseball League

Becky Fischer | 4/12/2018

One of my most favorite passions is the Boston Red Sox. I have loved them nearly my whole life. Ever since Bucky Dent made my dad cry in 1978, I've held a strong allegiance to the Sox, as well as a strong disdain for the New York Yankees.

Every summer thousands of locals and vacationers alike cheer on the Cape Cod Baseball League players, elite college studs who spend the summer on the Cape hitting the cover off the ball with wooden bats. Many of the players are only a couple years away from being drafted into the MLB. Some we never hear of again, but others make it big....so big that they suddenly become our bean town heroes, and my summer boys.

Here is a list of 2018 Red Sox players who once played ball, beached, and spent an unforgettable summer on the Cape:

Bobby Poyner – Orleans 2014

Sam Travis - Yarmouth Dennis 2012

Brian Johnson – Yarmouth Dennis 2011

Matt Barnes - Wareham Gatemen 2010

Chris Sale – Yarmouth Dennis 2009

Jackie Bradley Jr. Hyannis 2009

Joe Kelly – Yarmouth Dennis 2008

Mitch Moreland – Bourne 2006-07

Steven Wright - Orleans 2005

And, we would be remiss not to include New York Yankee, Aaron Judge, who played for the Brewster Whitecaps in 2012!
