Things to do

There is a lot of history to be found in the town of Sandwich. Built around 1675, the Hoxie House is one of the oldest homes on Cape Cod. The home was restored and furnished to reflect early colonial construction with many interesting features such as gun stock posts, pumpkin-pine Maine beams, and wide floorboards. Just down the road is the Dexter Grist Mill. Nestled next to beautiful Shawme Pond, the mill was built in 1637 in what is now the heart of the Sandwich historic district. It remained a working mill until 1881, and periodically runs today—you can even purchase your own bag of freshly ground corn there from May until September. No visit to Sandwich would be complete without a stop at the Sandwich Glass Museum. The museum features a wide range of rare glass, including glass from the local Boston & Sandwich Glass Factory, which was founded in 1825. A highlight are the glassblowing demonstrations. Watch beauty take shape before your very eyes! If you’re in the mood for taking in natural beauty, then visit the Heritage Museums & Gardens. Tour 100 stunning acres of gardens, nature trails, as well as iconic antique automobiles.
