Where: Chilmark section of South Shore. Surf, bluffs, Chilmark View Map
Water Type: Salt water
Type: Surf
Town Residents only. Excellent surf can be found at this beach as well as stunning views of clay cliffs.
Lucy Vincent Beach is open to non-Chilmark residents after September 15; since our stay was late in the year we were able to catch it this time! The waves are the biggest here - best for swimming or just listening.

Lucy Vincent Beach is private until mid-September, so we luckily were able to visit twice during our third week of September vacation. It's a mere 20 minute drive from Oak Bluffs, has ample free parking, a short walk to the sand and surf, and is just lovely. Great beach for our grandchildren to build sand castles and play in the surf. Lambert's Cove Beach is another private beach which opens up in September, which is also a treat to visit!

The water was warm and the surf was amazing. No jellyfish and little seaweed.

Pristine, plenty of spaces to explore, a 10/10 beach and I am very picky :)

We had walk-on passes to both Lucy Vincent and Squibnocket (both within easy cycling distance of the house [Vacation Rental ID 22082] so we did not need a parking sticker). Both are lovely and relatively uncrowded, even in August, because they are reserved for Chilmark residents and renters. Perhaps even better - but not on this list - Chilmark Pond beach, but you will need a kayak or paddle board to get there!

Lucy Vincent Beach and Squibnocket Beach are the two town beaches accessible to renters after you purchase a permit. Each beach offers it's own pleasures and it is worth looking at both before deciding which permit to purchase. Most prefer Lucy Vincent.....but I am a Squiby fan to my bones.

That was a bit dissapointing...beach pasees were not included with the rental. To purchase passes for the two beautiful beaches in that area were quite pricey!! I did not buy passes and opted for other less convenient beaches. Also, bothersome, was you have to bring your trash to the town dump and pay $4.00 per bag to dump!!
