Located in the heart of picturesque Sandwich, the Sandwich Glass Company first opened
its doors in 1825 and quickly became one of most respected glass manufacturers in
the world. In 1907, the Sandwich Glass Museum was opened to allow visitors to view
exhibits of Sandwich glass and learn about the history of this quintessentially
Cape Cod town and the glass manufacturing company that put it on the map. Today,
there are over 5,000 pieces of original, reproduction and new pieces on exhibit.
Visit the Sandwich
Glass Museum for more information, including directions and Museum hours.
In nearby Sagamore, not too far from the Sandwich Glass Museum, is Pairpont Glass, the oldest operating glassworks
in the United States. Like Sandwich Glass, you can watch actual demonstrations of
glassblowing year round and browse their inventory of beautiful glass objects.
If you’re on the Vineyard, be sure to visit
Martha’s Vineyard Glassworks on State Road in West Tisbury. It, too, is
more than just a gallery displaying beautiful works of art – its mission is also
to bring a better understanding of glassblowing to the public.
Looking for a local place to stay? Cape Cod rentals offer the perfect accommodations
to start and finish your daily excursions to the glassworks and all the sites that
the Cape has to offer.
