Description

Description

This house was built in the 1940's as a family summer cottage. The location was chosen because of the breathtaking views of Nantucket Sound and the Stage Harbor Light House, which are to the south. There is a large saltwater tidal marsh full of wildlife to the east. It is one thousand feet from Cockle Cove Beach, which is in a quiet area, ideal for adults and children.

It has been added to and updated over the years and has been used as a family home for the past generation. The 1200 sq. ft. of living space includes three bedrooms, two baths and a separate dining area. The interior has natural knotty pine, and the living room features a fireplace which you can enjoy as you watch the moon rise over Nantucket Sound.

There is a southeast patio overlooking the Sound and a northwest patio overlooking the salt marsh. The outdoor amenities include both gas and charcoal grills.

It is less than 1/2 mile to a town landing for kayaking and canoeing and a mile from the bike trail.

The owners live nearby and are available if you need them.

    A little bit of paradise

Just returned from a week at the Greenlaw house. In a word, perfect. 3 minute walk to the beach. A view from your bed overlooking Nantucket Sound. Breakfast on the patio with the same view. Private and quiet. The house is spacious. It can accommodate 2 couples, each with their own baths, in privacy. Or a large family. Clean, clean, clean. Traditional Cape Cod knotty pine vibe. Private parking space. In a word, perfect. Can't wait to return next year.

    Beautiful views

The views from the cottage are gorgeous and it's a short walk to the beach. Some of the photos in the listing are outdated. The bedroom with the bunk bed does not have a single bed - it only sleeps two. The furniture, rugs, and curtains are also different in some of the rooms. It's a very beautiful area with gorgeous views of the marsh and very quiet. The cottage does share a driveway with two other properties that the owners relatives live in and they check-in. Would recommend for adults but not families with young children. show more show less

The Wordell family have been renting their classic Cape Cod cottages since the 1950's. Of the original 14 cottages, the Greenlaw is the sole remaining rental property in the family. Jon was a local school teacher and a single father who raised his 6 children on the property. They ran the cottage colony as a family like a farm. Every detail from cleaning, painting, garbage collection to babysitting, it was a family affair. Jon married Toni, an ICU nurse at the Cape Cod Hospital and together they worked full time jobs while running their rental business for 40 years. Today, Toni is running the rental with the help of her brother and sister in-law and children. They are true locals who love their town and cherish t
    The Greenlaw.

What is special about this property?
This is a lovingly maintained family cottage with a traditional old Cape Cod charm. It manages to balance the charm without the tired feel. The home balances the original knotty pine with modern touches. There is cable and wifi but your vacation will not include a washer/dryer or dishwasher. The location and views are truly breathtaking with expansive views of the marsh and Nantucket Sound beyond. This is a perfect getaway for a small family, a couple, a small group of friends or just yourself!

What is special about your town?
Chatham is a lovely seaside community boasting beautiful beaches, parks, shops and restaurants. The town values their environment and their community members and applies strict zoning requirements to maintain the traditional New England charm. The activities in the summer are numerous including high level collegiate baseball league games, band concerts, arts in the parks, fairs and water recreation.
