Description

This newly renovated and lovingly restored 1940's cottage is within walking distance of Sundae School Ice Cream, Nauset Farms, and Zia Pizza and East Orleans. Bike to Nauset Beach or head into Orleans for great coffee at the Chocolate Sparrow, or for shopping, restaurants and playgrounds. The Orleans Firebirds baseball team, part of the historic Cape Cod Baseball League, plays other Cape teams nearby at Eldredge Park. The Cape Cod Rail Trail goes through the center of Orleans, and you can rent bikes for the day or week.

The main living and kitchen area is bright and airy. The kitchen has french doors that open up to a cheerful and roomy screened porch for dining and relaxing, creating a seamless indoor/outdoor living and dining area.

Our home has three charming bedrooms and two full baths. Each bedroom has its own unique character. There is a spacious master suite with a brass queen bed, ceiling fan, tv, walk-in closet, and private bath with a soaking tub. There is another bedroom with a double bed, and a third bedroom with two single beds and large windows that open onto the screened porch. Amenities include quiet yard, screened porch, cable TV, wi-fi, charcoal grill, and outdoor shower (not enclosed).

The property is on a quiet street and surrounded by woods on two sides and an open field on the other side. There is a spacious side lawn for enjoying outdoor games and activities.

You have your choice of two wonderful beaches close by: Nauset Beach on the ocean side if you want waves, or Skaket Beach on the bayside is popular for families with younger children. The cottage is about halfway between the two beaches. Charter fishing is available in Rock Harbor. Various seal watching and sunset cruises are also available and a whale watching trip out of Provincetown is an amazing experience.

Quintessential Cape Cod Cottage

We could not have been happier with our stay at the Summer House. The house is open, airy and bright. The screened in porch is one of the best rooms in the house. The house is newly renovated and the decor is shabby chic. Jim and Barbara have done a wonderful job on renovating this house. The house was spotless. Jim was super responsive in answering all of our questions prior to our arrival and even during our stay. We will definitely be back next summer and maybe even sooner!

What a wonderful, special and memorable few days our family shared here. What a lovely home...so creative and distinguished.

Thank you for all the very evident care and attention to detail in both comfort and the hospitality you have provided for. This home and the environment were the best components of our vacation, so relaxing here.

Thank you again.

We had a great weekend at your cottage. My kids loved the porch. With summer weather in October, we were able to enjoy the porch and the yard. We even spent an afternoon at the beach!

It is such a beautiful cottage and recently renovated. It is immediately clear upon first entry the level of detail put into the renovation. There was more room than needed for a family of 5 (with 3 small children). The large screened porch adds an additional room to lounge in as well.
/>We felt very at home and relaxed here and the renovations are simply beautiful.

I recently stayed at this cottage with my family, including my Mom. Just enough room to be together without stepping on each other. Mom loved sitting on the porch for her morning coffee. This cottage is extremely clean and the owners thought of everything that would be needed. Thank you. I plan to come back to Cape Cod next year and will definitely book this cottage.

Jim was a very gracious, responsive host who answered all our questions promptly.

We had a wonderful stay--The house is beautiful--like something out of an architectural magazine, and the owners did a wonderful job rebuilding it. Truly beautiful design and décor. Location is very close to Nauset and Skaket beaches, as well as market, ice cream, restaurants--all on a very quiet, private street.

We will definitely look to stay here again. A wonderful visit.

We had a wonderful family vacation in this beautiful cottage. The décor really makes this a special place--so relaxing. Every detail was thought of--there was nothing we needed all week. Love the style so much. Highlight was playing board games on the porch! Thank you again.

Jim and Barbara have spent the last four years lovingly restoring this classic 1941 Cape Cod cottage.

We added a 300 square foot master bedroom and bath addition, and totally renovated the original 600 square foot cottage.

The interior walls are done in 1 X 8 ship lap pine boards, identical to the original exterior wall construction. All the ceilings except for the vaulted master bedroom are done in 1 X 6 pine bead-board. All walls were painstakingly spackled, sanded and hand-painted by Barbara, using Benjamin Moore Simply White, which gives the entire cottage a bright, crisp appearance.

Each room has its own distinctive identity and features, from the built-ins to the custom windows and furnishings. The cottage sits on a very quiet half acre, surrounded by woods and a daily chorus of birds. Our quiet street feels as though it has more people walking or biking than cars, which adds to the quiet and peaceful setting.

When they're not working on the cottage, Jim is a local real estate attorney and Barbara is a pediatric nurse. They also have five grown children and two young grandsons to try to keep track of.

What is special about this property?
Our cottage is unique in retaining the character and authenticity of the original 1941 cottage, while giving it the brightness and light of a new home. The original floors were sanded and refinished, which gives the cottage the amazing warmth of old pine. Adding larger and windows and french doors onto the screen porch give the cottage a light, outside feel.

Sitting on a quiet lot surrounded by woods and an empty field always accompanied by a chorus of birds gives the cottage the sense of peacefulness and privacy.

What is special about your town?
Orleans is one of the most desireable towns on Cape Cod. Close to wonderful beaches and lakes for swimming, surfing, fishing and kayaking, many fabulous restaurants and coffee shops, shopping, bike rentals, access to the Cape Cod Rail Trail and nightly Cape League baseball games make Orleans a great place to vacation.
