Description

Description

Immaculate, bright cottage with ivy and geranium-filled window boxes and borders. Packett House is located in a quiet, lovely, year-round neighborhood. Our guests have used the words ''well-equipped, relaxing, comfortable, clean and orderly'' to describe the cottage. They especially like the location, large, private back yard, outdoor shower, patio and garage for bikes, kayaks, beach gear ... We have a window A/C in the living/family room and window units in the bedrooms. We also have fans throughout the house and great cross-ventilation. One bedroom has a queen bed with dresser and closet, the other has two twin beds with dresser and closet. We also have a side rail and a Pack'nPlay for children. A pull-out queen is located in the living room along with a game table, games, videos and books. The kitchen and living room areas are separated from the quieter dining and bedroom areas by a pocket door for sleeping guests or children.

Follow a private road a quarter mile to Cape Cod Bay at Rock Harbor--spectacular sunsets are often accompanied by a steel band. The charter fishing fleet is the largest on the East Coast. Watch them come in and unload the day's catch. A small beach is located at the harbor with Skaket Beach a two-mile bike or drive. Town center and bike trail is less than a mile. Sunbathe, swim, surf and fish at Nauset Beach on the ocean four miles away.

    Wonderful Time at Packett House

Just got back from a wonderful week at Wayne and Arlene's house. Was greeted by the owner upon arrival and given a quick walk-through - the house was spotless and extremely well-equipped in the kitchen. Plenty of secure storage space in the garage for our bicycles and beach gear. Wayne even brought over some fresh tomatoes and cucumbers from their garden for us - delicious! House is on a great piece of property, the backyard is very quiet and is great to just stretch out and relax. Everything was beyond expectations and we hope to return again. show more show less

    Delightful stay in Orleans

Wayne and Arlene's cottage is great! It is clean and cozy and convenient for many areas of the Cape. Our stay immediately started on a good basis when we sat in the back yard and watched many different birds pass through - bluejays, cardinals, orioles, and morning doves. Then we could walk to Rock Harbour and have delicious lobster rolls at Cap't Cass.

In Orleans we went to Chocolate Sparrow for coffees, Shaws and Stop and Shop for groceries, Hole in One for donuts, Local Scoop for ice cream. We also visited bookshops, the bird watching shop, clothing and shoe stores, this town has everything we need.

Plus it is a short drive to the National Seashore, there were free Orleans Firebirds baseball games to see, and the Cape Rep Theater company just a 10 minute drive away.

We had a pretty near perfect holiday here and would certainly return.

    Perfect home away from home

This was our second stay at the Packett House and it won't be our last. Very clean and has everything you need for a comfortable, relaxing stay. We enjoyed cooking on the patio grill and eating outdoors! The short walk to Rock Harbor was a daily event~ don't miss the gorgeous sunsets! The location is ideal, right in the middle of the Cape, so it's easy to get where you want to go. Skaket Beach for beachcombers and Nauset Beach for ocean surf are both close by. Hot Chocolate Sparrow downtown is not to be missed for specialty coffees, ice cream, homemade candies, etc. Rail Trail bike rentals, cute shops, restaurants, kayak rentals on Pleasant Bay, hiking trails... all right in town. Thank you Arlene and Wayne for a wonderful stay! show more show less

This is my third time staying here and as usual I've loved it. The weather this trip has been wonderful and I've gotten up mornings and walked on Nauset Beach. I love coming to stay here--Cape Cod feels like home and this house like my home away from home. You honestly couldn't ask for a better place to stay--location, hospitality, everything you could want all in one house. Thanks Wayne and Arlene! I'll be sorry to leave today (especially knowing my Mom gets to stay a few more days), but look forward to returning next time.

This was our fifth year staying at your lovely home on the Cape. We had a beautiful week and as always the boys enjoyed playing in the big backyard as much as they did playing at the beach. You are lovely people and we have enjoyed gettng to know you over the years. See you next summer.

We stayed in this cottage for the second year in a row. As soon as our first magical vacation week ended, we decided to return the following year. It had everything we hoped for and more--from the library of Disney videos and DVD's for our kids, to a washer and dryer in the basement and a clothesline and outdoor shower in the yard, to a kitchen complete with everything from coffee pot to lobster pot, cheese board to frozen beer mugs, muffin tins to wooden skewers--we have young children and cook our meals at home, and always found exactly what we needed in the cupboards and drawers. The house is exceptionally clean--the oven glistens, the bathroom tile gleams, even the gas grill and garage are pristine. It's like being the guest of an exceptionally thoughtful and hospitable host--the owners have anticipated everything you might need or want for a comfortable stay. One evening they even brought over a delicious cucumber and tomato salad from their garden. We enjoyed nightly ice cream and desserts at the Hot Chocolate Sparrow and bike rides to the beach every day. The stores in Orleans are a mile away, so we could run out to the drugstore or fish market and be back in no time at all. There are also a fish market and restaurant in Rock Harbor, a very short walk on side roads from the house. The bike path is approximately one mile away, and we felt safe biking on the road between house and path with our kids in trailers. The yard both in front and back is flat and roomy, so the kids spent lots of time running around. We recommend this cottage with no reservations and are hoping to return next year! show more show less

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay on the Cape in your lovely home. It's obvious that you take a lot of pride in maintaining the cleanliness and character of the house. It is the perfect size for our family of four, and the backyard patio, outdoor shower, and use of the garage for our bikes/canoe/beach gear were some of our favorite features. Some of our favorite activities included a visit to the Chatham fishing pier, sunsets at Rock Harbor, two days at Skaket Beach, a visit to Nauset Beach for a picnic dinner and watching the seals, a lunch and afternoon in P-town, and canoeing around Little Pleasant Bay (more seals!). Thank you again for your hospitality! We loved the fresh garden veggies and zucchini bread. A nice touch! show more show less

Packett was Wayne's Aunt Olivia's married name and it seemed right to pay homage to Lawrence (Blondie) and Olivia (Liv) by giving it their name--hence Packett House. We have been renting Packett House since 1999 and pride ourselves on meeting the needs of our guests by welcoming them to a clean, well-equipped and comfortable home away from home. When our guests arrive we greet them personally to see if they have any questions about the house, area or a special need we can accommodate. Each year we look forward to meeting new visitors as well as catching up with those who have stayed previous years.

What is special about this property?
We thought we would let our guest book comments tell you what is special about this property:
