Description

Great home for entertaining friends and family. Private 4+ acre retreat, secluded waterfront property on Sengekontacket Pond with a private dock and mooring - perfect for swimming, fishing, kayaking, waterboarding or small powerboats. Your own private beach and sitting area next to your own 125 foot dock lets you enjoy the wonderful waterfowl and serenity of the water. You are right across from ''big bridge'', and an easy kayak to State Beach. The morning sun rises over spectacular Nantucket Sound and Sengy to begin your day.

Contact the owner directly, and see many more views of this distinctive home property. There are no fees for you to pay here vs. VRBO. The owner will provide you with more details on the house, and information on activities and restaurants on Martha's Vineyard.

Explore your private boardwalk and island on a beautiful saltwater pond of 745 acres (2 1/2 miles in length) with connections to Nantucket Sound. From a large patio (great for entertaining) you look down over an expansive lawn to the boardwalk and lawn chairs. You can eat outside on the open deck or in a large screened-in porch overlooking the water. Also, there is a picnic table on your island where you can enjoy a picnic and water activities. An expansive outside shower is off the porch.

The house is newly renovated by one of the Island's top architects. The interior is bright and beautifully furnished with a tasteful, beachy feel. Design of this fully air conditioned 3,500 sq ft home takes full advantage of sparkling water views from almost every window.

A great room overlooks the patio with a wall of windows and a gas fireplace for chilly nights. An entertainment area provides a large screen, high definition TV and wireless Internet, which can be reached throughout the house. The modern gourmet eat-in kitchen has granite counters, double ovens, 5 burner cook top and is fully equipped for the discerning chef. Williams Sonoma dishes and glassware, and All-Clad pots and pans are at your fingertips in this well-laid-out kitchen.

On the deck, a Weber stainless steel Genesis gas grill makes barbequing a snap. A lovely bar area, located in the center of the open first floor, has a side-by-side red / white wine refrigerator, drink glassware and lovely dishes for serving hors d'oeuvres. In addition, the first floor has a formal dining room for 10, and separate den with a double sofa bed, flat screen TV and games. A full bath with a large shower and a large airy entryway completes the first floor.
Three en suite bedrooms (one king and two queens) provide great privacy for three couples, one of which is a large master bedroom with a seating area and a large private balcony. An additional bedroom has twin beds and is decorated for the little pirates in your family. All 4 bedrooms are located on the 2nd floor.

The property is adjacent to the Martha's Vineyard Rod and Gun Club, and within an easy walk to the Felix Neck Audubon Wildlife Sanctuary and hiking trails. It is also near bike paths connecting Edgartown, Oak Bluffs, and Vineyard Haven town centers. Bikes can be rented from the Edgartown Bike Shop by the day or week, making it easy to enjoy the miles of safe bike trails on the island.

Top quality linens and towels are provided. Beach towels and bags, coolers, toys, umbrellas and 8 beach chairs are provided. Equipment for a variety of outdoor games is provided for your use, stored in the adjacent utility barn.

You can kayak (rental kayaks can be delivered and picked up from the house) from your own beach. This will allow you to be at bend-in-the-road State Beach and big bridge in less than 10 minutes. You can also kayak around Felix Neck Preserve and enjoy the wide variety of water fowl that live on the 745 acre salt water pond. You can also rent small motor boats that can be delivered to the pond. This is fun for a quick run to Edgartown Harbor.

Fishing on the pond is great fun (licenses easily obtained at Edgartown Town Hall). Striped bass are present from early May to November. Bonito are present in peak numbers in July and August. Albacore show up in mid-August, and stay into October. You can fish from our dock or in a kayak or motor boat.

    Wonderful home

The home is everything we would have hoped for, and more. The property is fantastic, with huge yard for the kids and the access to water (kids were fishing off the dock, and we brought a SUP). The home is so well maintained, with a kitchen stocked with everything you could want. The screened in porch was a lovely perk, to enjoy the beautiful evenings bug free. The home was exceptionally clean as well! A special home, and one we hope to return to!

    Incredible Family Getaway!

My husband and I are yearly visitors to MV but this year had to be one of our favorite trips yet, all thanks to Cindy's incredible home. Trips look a little different than years' past as we now have two young children and travel with "The Grandmas" and extended family (with more kids) for extra support and this was THE perfect house to accommodate us all. First off, the location is prime. Smack dab in the middle of Edgartown and Oak Bluffs, it's an easy, quick drive to either town (without the usual Island traffic). The house itself was not only beautifully decorated and spacious (and clean!) but we all kept saying "this is the ultimate house for entertaining". Anything you could've needed during your MV vacation, the house already had it! We enjoyed our morning coffee on the back deck overlooking the water, watching the kids play in the backyard with endless toys that Cindy and her family graciously provided, and ending our days/nights grilling and playing games in the screened in porch off the back deck. The private island with the little beach was a hit with the kids and we loved taking the floaties out there to just drift around in the water. It was hard to leave this house after the week was over but Cindy made the whole experience so easy and pleasant and we can't thank her and her family enough for sharing their home with us! show more show less

    Amazing screened porch!

We had a lovely time on the Vineyard at Cindy's home. Lots for space for all of us to spread out and enjoy the views of Jaws bridge and lots of wildlife. The bedroom situation was a little wonky. The children's twin bedroom is in between two queen sized rooms. Meaning the kids had to walk thru the adult rooms to get to theirs. Probably fine for younger kids but it was weird for our teens. The waterfront was great! The walkway to the dock and the clear waters were lovely. FYI the property is directly next to an active gun club. show more show less

    hi Jenn,
Sorry that you did not find the bedroom situation fine. I explained to you on the phone that the kids room was between the king and one queen. It does work out best for small children. Why did they not sleep on the pull out sofa in the den? That is where teens usually stay (they have a TV too and privacy).
Maybe the R&G had a special skeet shotting for 4th of July? I did explain that we were next to the club.
With over 30 reviews, I have to say you are the first to give me less than a 5.
    Have a nice summer.

    Wonderful family vacation!

The access of the property to the Pond was a big selling point. We rented paddle boards and kayaks to take full advantage of the location. We kept going to the dock at all times of the day to sit and soak in the changing moods of the Pond. Saw some beautiful sunrises! The house was everything Cindy promised it would be. It was a pleasure to gather in the kitchen, the Great Room, on the deck and in the screened-in porch. We had visited MV several times to stay with my brother in the Katama area and always said: "We should rent a house and have our whole smallish family come". We finally did it! My brother's family came over for group meals and we went to his house for the same. Much more fun than going to a restaurant and we were free too laugh loudly and continuously. The house had everything we needed! We left with many great memories of seeing our relatives from Virginia, Florida, Idaho, Illinois, New York and New Jersey! We appreciated that a wonderful place was being shared with us! show more show less

    Another Wonderful Vacation!

This was our second time renting Cindy and Ken's home, and it seemed even better than before, as it was so nice to return to a place that we had loved so much the prior summer. Our second vacation here was just as perfect!

Starting with the (very necessary!) pre-arrival reminder in the spring to make our ferry reservation, the pre-arrival guide to their home and the Vineyard, the well stocked pantry, and all the toys and supplies for beach adventures and lawn games, one feels well prepared to simply relax and enjoy all the natural beauty that surrounds you.

We are a paddling family, so with a few rented kayaks and SUPs, we practically never felt the need to leave. When we did venture out by bike (there are so many places easily and enjoyably accessed by bike) or by car, returning back for a swim in the warm waters was the highlight of everyone's trip.

We are already looking forward to next year!

    Beautiful home!

We had a fantastic week at Cindy's home in Edgartown. The pictures do not do this home justice - every single room is stunning and beautifully decorated. Even on Day 7 I was noticing things in the home that I hadn't noticed before - everything was unique and really well done.

Cindy was a fantastic host - from the day we booked her home right up until we left. She checked in, answered any questions, and really made sure that our time in her home was perfect.

We rented kayaks and paddle boards for the week, and I would highly encourage any future renters to do the same. It's a perfect spot for these activities and a wonderful way to spend some time every morning or afternoon. This home is conveniently located between Edgartown and Oak Bluffs, and we spent plenty of time in both towns. We did more cooking this vacation than usual, and that's because the kitchen was so well appointed, and there were so many gorgeous places that the family could gather for a meal (the screened porch area, the back patio, the beautiful dining room).

I can honestly say that this was the best rental experience I have ever had - I hope to return to Cindy's home again in the future!

Beautiful home, amazing location, and very friendly hosts

Our family has been coming to Martha's Vineyard for years and this was the first time staying at Cindy and Ken's home. The home is perfect for multigenerational family gatherings - there is a huge back yard with plenty of space for kids to run around, and easy access to the water.

We rented kayaks and paddle boards for the week and a lot of the time we didn't even want to leave the house because of the great swimming there is right in the back yard. The home is beautifully kept, plenty of space, bathrooms attached to every bedroom and the screened in porch for outdoor meals was so useful. If you're an early riser, waking up to see the sunrise over the water was incredible. Thank you Cindy and Ken for such a great week. show more show less

    The Perfect Family Vacation Home

If you are looking for a place to stay that has something for everyone in your family this is the home for your next family vacation. If a day at the beach is where you are headed both State Beach and South Beach are a 5-10 minute car ride, or better yet, hop on the bike paths up the road to either beach. Want something different? Walk down their dock on Sengekontacket Pond for a swim, paddle boarding, kayaking or just to take in the beautiful view. And unlike most vacation homes this one has an expansive back yard perfect for playing any yard game you can imagine.

The house itself is elegant but with a laid back vibe. The kitchen is stocked with every utensil and gadget you could want. The back patio has plenty of seating and looks out onto the back yard and pond. One of our favorite rooms is their large outdoor screened-in dining area with an expansive table and chairs and the perfect place to catch up on everyone's adventures.

    Perfectly Appointed Home

We cannot say enough about our experience and comfort at this beautiful Edgartown home! After renting for 13 years elsewhere, this was the best appointed (and cleanest) house we have ever set foot. The owners have outdone themselves with details that guests might need: Q-tips, first-aide kits, large dishes for entertaining, cloth placements/napkins, toys/games, beach equipment, beach bags and the like. For our family, we love to cook and used to have to transport knives, cheese graters, a food processor to other homes - not in this home. You will have everything you need to whip up a gourmet meal, including Al-Clad pots and pans. The bathrooms are large, new and modern - plenty of room to have your own space. The master bedroom is gigantic with two closets, dressers, hamper and a large master bath plus a deck overlooking the pond. There are two good-size bedrooms with queen beds and one small bedroom with two twin beds. All beautifully decorated and spotless. Laundry is in the basement.

First floor has a full bathrooms, a den/TV room that has doors so kids or adults can have their own space while the larger living room off the kitchen has another TV or sounds system where we streamed music while we cooked. A huge deck is off the back of the home with plenty of seating plus a screened in porch with more seating for evening when the bugs are out. The yard is huge in both the front and back of the house and it's a quick 2 min walk over the dock to the "island" where we rented kayaks for access to the pond. We did swim in the pond but also kayaked over to the state beach (it took less than 10 minutes to do this) and enjoyed the beach over there as well.

The house is very quiet, situated between Oak Bluffs and Edgartown. We brought our bikes and accessed the bike path many times just a few blocks from the home. I highly recommend this place for families who want privacy, quick access via driving or biking to two town, and love water sports.

Thank you so much for the wonderful review. We use to drag so much stuff to the island when we rented a house that we said once we owned a home it would be fully supplied with the same quality finery that we had in our own house. We love to have nice serving linens, dishes and glassware for hors d'oeuvres and dinner. Thus we feel our renters appreciate the finer accessories as much as we do.
Having beach equipment and towels there just saves so much space up in the car.
Please come back again, and enjoy the island.
All the best and thank you for renting our home,
    Cindy

    Beautiful Retreat!

This home is pristine, well appointed and beautifully decorated with all mediums of "Island" artwork! We are a family of four, so the three suites upstairs worked out perfectly. There is also an additional room upstairs with two twin beds and a full bath downstairs that guests can use. Its location worked out perfectly for biking, kayaking,a morning walk, a beach trip, or entertaining. Thanks for making our family vacation relaxing and memorable!

We have been vacationing on Martha's Vineyard with our family since 1986. Our children love the island as much as we do, so we decided that we should become owners. Since the water figures so much into being here, we waited to find a location with water view and access. We have been renting our property in season for over a dozen years, and have expanded and redecorated the house. We believe in managing the property ourselves, and in maintaining a personal touch with our guests. Renters come and go as their families grow, but we enjoy a significant number of repeat renters each year. We know from our reviews that the house and grounds are special to many of our guest families, and that makes us very happy. We try to put the extra effort into all we offer, and it is satisfying to hear that it resonates with our guests.
We provide many of the amenities that we know we used to have to bring with us each time when we rented - this provides a much easier vacation for our guests. We also love to cook, thus our kitchen is well stocked with everything one needs to put on a gourmet meal or a casual family lobster dinner.
We believe in providing you with as many details about the house, property and town as we can before your arrival. This makes it easy for you to have a great vacation - the two of us are detail-oriented, which our guests have always appreciated.

What is special about this property?
Most would agree that the property's location is its greatest asset. Located on Sengy Pond, with dock, private island and private beach access is almost unique. You are close to Edgartown via car, bike or even walking, yet you are secluded in a country shore setting. The spacious back yard is great for family fun too.
The second great asset is the house itself. Totally renovated and decorated as a shore house, it offers immaculate facilities, with a modern flair. The kitchen is easy to work in, and all amenities are top shelf. All sheets and towels are of high quality as well. Every review cites our screen porch for outside dining, and our large deck for family gathering.

What is special about your town?
Anyone who has seen Edgartown knows it is a truly special town. Classic New England shore architecture, wonderful shopping and eating establishments, and a harbor that is about as beautiful as it gets combine to make it a magnet for all visiting the island. Again, we are so close to the town, yet you'd never know it.
This is not to denigrate any of the other towns. Oak Bluffs is only a 20 min. drive away, and has its wonderful Victorian architecture and attractions. You are only minutes from State Beach, a family favorite, and you can see it from our deck!
It really does not take long to get anywhere on the island, and you are close to the major roads, but you'll never hear them!
