Things to do near the Wellfleet Harbor

The quaint, seaside town of Wellfleet on the Outer Cape, is a popular summer destination. Wellfleet Harbor is a great spot to watch both pleasure and fishing boats come and go and to take in a beautiful sunset at the end of the day. The harbor is within walking distance of some of Wellfleet’s popular attractions.

Mayo Beach

Looking to visit the beach during your trip? Mayo Beach is within walking distance of the Harbor offers calm waters, plenty of beach grass, and a nearby playground. It’s a good spot for the entire family to enjoy! While parking is free, it is limited, so plan to arrive early.

Restaurants

After a long day at the beach, nothing is better than grabbing a delicious meal. There are several restaurants within a short distance of Wellfleet Harbor. One waterfront restaurant, The Pearl, is a great spot to enjoy some local seafood. Dine indoors or on their rooftop deck. The raw bar, built out of an old fishing boat, serves fresh oysters and other selections right from across the street! This is a local spot you definitely don’t want to miss.

The Wellfleet Bookstore and Restaurant is another unique dining location. As its name implies, it’s not only a restaurant, but also a bookstore. Book lovers can delight at the large selection of new, antique, rare, and used books available for purchase before dining in the beloved restaurant. Specials vary throughout the week including options like seafood, sandwiches, soups, and more.

Looking to grab a quick bite instead? Be sure to check out Mac’s Seafood, located right on the Harbor. This classic clam shack is another local favorite for fried clams, delicious ice cream, and other yummy summer snacks. Enjoy your treats at the picnic tables set right in the sand.

The Frying Pan Gallery

Art lovers will enjoy the Frying Pan Gallery right across from the Harbor. The gallery specializes in local art, showcasing a variety of pieces from Cape Cod artists and artisans. One of their specialties are the fish arrangements made from steel. These unique items are sold as wall décor and light fixtures. The Frying Pan Gallery holds special events and is open from May to October.

The Harbor Stage Company

There’s nothing like the thrill of watching a live theater performance. Luckily, those visiting the Wellfleet Harbor can catch a show right by the sea. The Harbor Stage Company, an actor-run operation, produces plays at an accessible price point. While the 2020 season was cancelled, visitors should be on the lookout for announcements regarding the 2021 season. Theatre lovers can also purchase tickets to watch their virtual productions, available online.
