Description

Description

Only 6/10 mile to family favorite warm water Ridgevale Beach on Nantucket Sound, our custom home is located on a private cul-de-sac in a quiet residential area near the South and West Chatham line. Our area is comprised exclusively of private single-family homes with paved roads and underground telephone, cable, and electric lines. It overlooks Cockle Creek and the tidal salt marsh inlet of Nantucket Sound that flows between Ridgevale Beach and Hardings Beach. Ridgevale Beach is adjacent and connected to Cockle Cove Beach.

Day-light lower level provides a second comfortable sitting or TV viewing area, an open activity area for games, ping pong, air hockey, or bumper pool, and access to patio area with a hot shower. We provide an outdoor propane gas grill (with spare tank).

Separate enclosed laundry area is equipped with large capacity washer and dryer, an iron, drying racks, and ironing board. We supply laundry detergent, bleach, and fabric softener. Lines for fresh air drying are located under the deck.

The layout of the house is very comfortable. Two full bathrooms (tub with shower) and three bedrooms are located on the main floor of the home. Master bedroom with king bed is located at rear of house with adjoining master bath. Two guest bedrooms (one with X-Long twin beds, one with twin beds) are located at front of house. Main bathroom is located off central hall near guest bedrooms. We provide bed linens, extra pillows, blankets, bath ans beach towels.

Two (2) low steps from the main entrance to main level of the home. Step directly from dining area onto expansive two-level mahogany deck. Wide gradual steps lead from main deck to lower deck and then onto private yard or to a patio area under main deck.

Our home is situated with a Southern view overlooking Cockle Creek and tidal saltmarsh inlet from Nantucket Sound between Ridgevale and Hardings Beaches. Cockle Creek winds through the tidal saltmarsh to Nantucket Sound. Since the water depth is tidal, we recommend a kayak or canoe be launched from the inlet at Ridgevale beach. There are several websites for local area boat rentals.

Our home is located less than 1 mi. from the bicycle trail, 3.5 mi. to Chatham Center, and 0.6 mi. to Ridgevale Beach.

Ridgevale Beach is adjacent to but separated from Hardings Beach by an inlet to Cockle Creek and is adjacent to Cockle Cove Beach. We are 2.3 mi. drive to Hardings Beach. Parking pass for all Chatham beaches are purchased at Ridgevale Beach.

We provide beach equipment, including beach towels, chairs, umbrellas, and a cooler on wheels.

Chatham is located on the elbow of Cape Cod. Ridgevale Beach is on the South coast of Chatham, on the Eastern end of Nantucket Sound. The Atlantic Ocean is on the East coast of Chatham.

Our location offers proximity to a variety of attractions and activities for all ages.

Chatham offers a central location from which to tour Cape Cod. We're less than 1 mi. to a Park and Ride lot at the bicycle trail that winds through Harwich, Orleans, Eastham. Nearby Chatham Municipal Airport has small plane excursion rides. Sailing and Sportfishing boat charters and boat excursions to Monomoy Island are nearby; We're 36 mi. to Provincetown Whale Watching excursions, ferry to Plymouth, and fast ferry to Boston.

We're 5 mi. to the fast ferry from Harwich to Nantucket Island; 30 mi. to the Steamship Authority Ferry (and fast ferry) from Hyannis to Martha's Vineyard or Nantucket; 41 mi. to the Island Queen Ferry from Falmouth to Martha's Vineyard.

Our home is furnished and well equipped for your comfort and enjoyment.

We provide local telephone service, landline and portable telephones, telephone answering machine, clock radio in each bedroom, High-Speed Broadband Ethernet and Wireless Internet, Expanded Channel Cable HDTV TV (on main and lower levels), stereo CD player, rubbish and recycle pickup, and professional lawn maintenance.

Our home does not have a central air conditioning system. There is a 14,000 BTU portable a/c unit that cools 600 to 700 sq.ft.. A powerful Dehumidifier/Evaporator installed in the lower level automatically measures and evaporates humidity. The open living/dining area has a ceiling fan. An automatic exhaust fan is installed in the attic. We provide additional box, window, and portable fans.

Although days on Cape Cod can be hot and humid in July, due to our home’s location and proximity to Nantucket Sound, we normally benefit from a constant direct offshore breeze from Nantucket Sound which provides good air circulation and cooling. Tenants have reported that AC was not needed.

We manage our rental directly. We do not utilize third-party booking agents who charge tenant booking fees. Tenants contact us directly to provide additional information or to resolve any problem.

We personally inspect and ensure that our home is thoroughly cleaned to our standards and is in proper order for incoming tenants. We expect a tenant to remove their personal belongings, food, etc., and to leave the house in a presentable condition. Our cleaning and linen fee is $200.00 for 1 or 2 occupants, $250.00 for 3 or 4 occupants, $300.00 for 5 or 6 occupants. We schedule additional disinfecting to follow cleaning.

Due to owner SEVERE ALLERGIC REACTIONS, we restrict rentals to NON-SMOKERS WITHOUT PETS (of ANY TYPE, BREED, WEIGHT, or SIZE). This restriction is included in our rental agreement.

Maximum occupancy is limited to six (6) persons. Our rental agreement stipulates that our property shall not be used for any function or gathering of more than the maximum number of occupants (6) without our prior permission.

If possible, we modify check-in and/or check-out times to accommodate a tenant's schedule.

We book with preference to two or more week rentals and with flexible turnover days and check-in/check-out times to comply with state/local guidelines and recommendations to maintain sufficient time to clean and disinfect between rentals.

Home with lovely marsh view

We spent two weeks in this home enjoying morning coffee and evening drinks on the deck which overlooks a marsh. We were mesmerized by the blue herons who frequented the marsh
We found the home to be meticulously clean and well stocked ,( kitchen appliances, dishes, pots ,linens ,towels and beach accessories). Beds were quite comfortable .
The house is convenient to the bike path and beaches ,and near restaurants for take out during the pandemic

So peaceful

Our 6 person family had a blast. All the extras were fantastic. Not having to bring linens or beach supplies was a huge help. The layout of the house is perfect for families. Favorite part was sitting on the back porch in the mornings just watching the cranes in the marsh. Evenings watching the bunnies were nice and relaxing as well. Hope to return in 2023

Mellissa,

Thank you for taking time to provide a review. We're pleased that the layout of our home accommodated your family's needs. We provide linens and towels (bath and beach) as well as beach chairs, etc. to lessen items tenants need to pack and bring with them. We'd be happy to have you return for a future vacation.

Cockle Cove House Review

We found the house to be very clean and comfortable. It well equipped with beach going things and cooking things. We really enjoyed the gaming basement and spent all our evenings there. There was a nice large deck that overlooked a tidal marsh, which would have be nice to have breakfast on if it weren't so chilly in the mornings.

The street was quite and close to the Ridgevale Beach. It was a short 15 minute walk to the beach. The house was a short drive to Chatham, which has nice downtown area to shop, eat, and walk. The house is centrally located on the Cape, which made it easy to get to Provincetown to the north and Hyannis and Falmouth to the west. I would definitely recommend. show more show less

Great house - great location!

We stayed in this house in early September and couldn't have asked for a better place. The house was spotless and included lots of amenities like a washer/dryer, beach chairs, outdoor shower, and linens. Plus, the kitchen was well-stocked and the beds were very comfortable.

The location was perfect - we could walk to the beach and ride our bikes (or run) to the bike path, about a half a mile away. And we enjoyed sitting out on the large deck and looking at the marsh.

The house isn't far from Chatham's main street, which is filled with lots of stores and good restaurants.

And the homeowners were great - very responsive to any questions we had. We hope to stay here again.

A peaceful vacation home with every amenity

We enjoyed a very pleasant vacation here in early September. The owners were so responsive and incredibly thorough in arranging the rental, sharing local information, and in caring for their home. We'd never seen a vacation home so well stocked with every item you could need in the kitchen, bedrooms, rec areas, BBQ, etc. The back deck is sun-drenched and has a full view of the marsh - very peaceful. It's on a cul-de-sac so very quiet. Walking distance to Ridgevale Beach, which was perfect for the kids. Highly recommended! show more show less

Another great stay at Ridgevale Beach

This is our 7th (?) year renting this house. It continues to be our home base in Cape Cod and we absolutely love it. The living area is spacious and comfortable with 2 large couches, and lots of rug space to play for my kids. The basement is awesome with games of all kinds to entertain in the evenings and on any rainy days. The beds are all super comfortable, and the bedrooms all have fans to keep things cooler at night. The basement is stocked with all beach toys, chairs, coolers, wagon etc needed to take with us. It's wonderful to not pack that stuff with us from our own home. The owners are always available to answer questions and are great hosts. We look forward to 2021! show more show less

COVID vacation

We had a wonderful week in this very clean, well equipped home just a short walk from Ridgevale beach. There were beach chairs, boogie boards, noodles and buckets for the beach. For non beach days there were games and puzzles. The deck overlooking a marsh was great for relaxing and also for grilling and eating outside. The beds were very comfortable - the best we have ever slept on in a rental house - they seemed brand new. Kathleen provided us with lots of information on things to see and do as well as restaurants and beaches and up to date information on any COVID regulations. We were sad to leave at the end of the week - one week was not enough. show more show less

Spacious family-friendly beach home in quiet part of Chatham

My husband, nearly 3 year old son, and I thoroughly enjoyed our week long stay in this lovely beach home close to Ridgevale Beach. The owners were super responsive and communication with them was seamless from start to finish. The house was clean and fully stocked with anything we might need (plates and cutlery, pots and pans for eating in, grill on the deck with a full tank of propane, and even beach gear!). Appliances worked well (toaster, coffeemaker, dishwasher, and even washer/dryer). The house could have easily accommodated several additional guests. We brought our boat along with us and there was ample room in the driveway to park it. It was easy to pack up the car (and assorted toddler beach accessories!) and drive a few minutes to Ridgevale, which has tide pools and shallows that were ideal for our son. There was also a lovely salt marsh in the backyard for viewing of wildlife. Travel to a boat ramp with our boat and trailer and heading over to Main Street were both easy by car as well. We would definitely consider staying here again (and my son is still asking if someone else is staying in "our vacation house" many weeks later)! show more show less

This is our 4th year staying at this lovely home. It's just perfect for our family of 5. It has all of the amenities of our own home, I hardly have to pack home goods along with us! The home is a ten-minute walk to the beach, we often walked with the stroller and our baby while my husband drove the car with all the beach stuff. Ridgevale is one of the best beaches for kids. The house is clean and spacious. The huge deck is beautiful and great to hang out in the morning noon and night. We love staying here and are so excited to return every summer. Kathleen is a fantastic owner and super attentive to anything we may need. My three kids all call it their summer house which makes me so happy that they love it as much as me. show more show less

Two generations shared this beautifully located home overlooking a tidal marsh rich in wildlife. Early mornings on the back deck were a joy watching birdlife and the occasional deer. The house itself was very well supplied for the enjoyment of guests with a home-away-from-home feel. The high ceiling and skylight in the open living room/dining area gave a feeling of spaciousness, and the furniture was very comfortable. In the bedrooms, closets were large and there was plenty of drawer space. Downstairs was a haven of entertainment for keeping amused in bad weather – which didn’t happen during our 9-day stay. Our wish would have been for more storage space for food, but it didn’t affect our enjoyment of this lovely home. show more show less

We are native New Englanders, growing up in Greater Boston MA. We've lived in southern NH and presently reside in Rhode Island. Starting in 1982, we acquired coastal homes in Massachusetts and Florida that we have made available for short-term furnished rentals.

since 1982: Chatham MA home (WeNeedAVacation.com Property ID 31022).
since 2022: Plymouth MA townhome at the White Cliffs Country Club in Cedarville Village (WeNeedAVacation.com property id 35782)
since 1987: Bonita Beach FL home on Estero Bay (FloridaRentals.com property id 4888)
since 2022: Sarasota FL condo at Palm Aire (FloridaRentals.com property id 12280)

We do not consider any to be ''a rental'' but to be ''our home''. We consider tenants as our guests and appreciate it when tenants respectfully treat our home as their own.

We do not list our homes on any rental website that blocks communication between owners and inquirers prior to collecting their booking/service fee from the renter. We enjoy direct communication with tenants and believe it is essential for each party's expectations.

We personally manage our rentals and communicate directly with tenants, not through a property manager. Prior to a rental, we ensure that our home is properly prepared to our standards. We remain available to promptly provide information or resolve a problem if one arises.

We're complemented by returning tenants and receipt of many excellent reviews.

What is special about this property?
The layout and design of our Chatham home (WeNeedAVacation.com Property ID 31022) (main and lower levels) have worked well for groups of varying ages with varying interests or activities. A cathedral ceiling for the living room & dining area that transitions onto the expansive deck provides a comfortable area for relaxation or entertaining. The location uniquely provides a ''back to nature'' environment but is only a short drive to Main Street or Chatham Light. Our near-acre lot is perimeter screened with tall Leyland Cypress trees. The tidal salt marsh view changes foliage throughout the year. The saltmarsh is frequented by blue herons and ducks swimming in Cockle Creek,

The Fairway Green Townhome at White Cliffs Country Club (WeNeedAVacation.com property id 35782) is an Atlantic oceanfront residence within an exclusive private gated residential community atop a high cliff overlooking Cape Cod Bay. It provides a resort lifestyle with country club amenities and proximity to Cape Cod, historic Plymouth, and Boston MA.

The Sarasota condo (FloridaRentals.com property id 12280) is located in a community of permanent and seasonal residents. It has a fantastic view of the expansive golf course at Palm Aire Country Club.

The Bonita Beach home (FloridaRentals.com property id 4888) with a private dock on Estero Bay is located on an exclusive peninsula of Litle Hickory Island. It is 0.6 miles to beach access #5 on the Gulf of Mexico.

Chatham is a central location from which to begin touring Cape Cod. We are less than 1 mile from a Park and Ride lot at the bicycle trail that winds through Cape towns Harwich, Orleans, Eastham. Nearby Chatham Municipal Airport hosts small planes that offer excursion rides.

Attractions include Chatham Lighthouse, Chatham Maritime Festival, First Night Celebration, Railroad Museum, Fish Pier Observation Deck, First Grist Mill in Godfrey Windmill at Chase Park, Atwood House Museum, Chatham Band Concert on Friday nights during July and August. Our Chatham Athletics play in the Cape Cod Baseball League. Excursion trips to Monomoy Island or ferry to Nantucket Island. Tourists enjoy seeing fishing boats unload at the Chatham Fish Pier, and often see harbor seals eagerly swimming close by. The warm water beaches of Nantucket Sound are ideal for swimming.

Popular Ridgevale Beach, located between Harding's Beach and Cockle Cove Beach, is enjoyed by families with small children. With a town beach pass (daily or weekly), you can park at any town beach. Since Chatham is located on the Elbow of Cape Cod, you can easily day trip West to Bass River, Hyannis, and Cape Cod Canal or North to the National Seashore, Truro, and Provincetown.
