We very much enjoyed our one week stay at Barley House in early September. The location is on a fairly quiet street which is great for walking, and it was convenient to all the activities that we like in the Orleans area.
The house is older but charming and it reminded us of a quaint country inn. We did not use the main dining room or the front room, but we enjoyed the large breezy porch where we relaxed and ate most of our meals. The kitchen was not large but adequate.

Barley House is our favorite place to stay! The house is cozy and comfortable and has everything you need for an enjoyable vacation. There's room to comfortably sleep six and the extra spaces are great for spreading out—relaxing on the screened porch, playing games, doing puzzles, or setting up outside fun. The location is close to both Nauset Beach and Nauset Farms which makes for the perfect combination: pick up sandwiches from NF and head to the beach! Carol is a lovely and accommodating host! This is the second time we have stayed at this property. Carol is a fabulous owner who takes care of her property making it very easy to visit and feel at home. Our favorite room in the home is the screened porch. It's a great place to relax, read a book, play a game or hang out and have a meal with family. Everything is close to this property including beaches (Nauset and Skaket), shopping and places with great food. We love Cape Cod and hope to come back again soon.

The Barley Neck house in Orleans was a wonderful stay for our family. This well loved home was in the perfect location with easy access to Nauset being a highlight for us. We loved walking our dog around the marsh down the street and being able to walk to East Orleans center for coffee or ice cream was a joy. It was perfectly well equipped and organized and we wanted for nothing. Our host, Carol was lovely and responsive. Our son needed to work from home a few days we were there and the WIFI was great. We have been staying in Orleans & Eastham for over 15 years and Carol's home was by far our favorite! It had space to stretch out and be comfortable, super comfortable beds, air conditioning, well appointed kitchen, location, great host and to top it off allowed our dog. WOW we wished our two weeks at Barley House had never ended ! Just a delightful, Quirky and utterly charming house. Situated in the wonderful East side of Orleans( my favorite town on the cape) we had access to kayak's to use on nearby meeting house pond and a short drive to wonderful Nauset Beach not to mention the many fine breakfast, lunch and dinner places nearby or just cook your own as we did in the well stocked kitchen or grill outside on the Webber that's provided. Was not cleaned. Someone else's food was left in the refrigerator. Very cluttered and unkempt. There were cobwebs and dead insects in the shower and in the bedroom. There was caked on soap in the soap dish. Outside maintenance was overdue. Overgrown vegetation abounds.
Did not look like anyone had been in the place for months.
Kitchen is almost unworkable and small. We way overpaid for this rental.

We've been fortunate enough to find Barley House two summers ago, and we have enjoyed two glorious family vacations there, and hope for many more.

The home is quintessential, "Cape Cod," with cedar shakes, two fireplaces, cozy built-in book cases with plenty of good reads, nooks and crannies to escape and enjoy, upstairs rooms with eaves, all with modern amenities that include AC units, washer/dryer and a good cable package. The home is tastefully furnished with a feeling of home. An amazing L shaped screened in porch serves as a window on the world to all that is happening on Barley Neck Road.
Bike riding in the Barley Neck Neighborhood was a plus for our oldest son and granddaughter, without the treck to the bike trail, but that is always an option as well.
A short walk to the end of the road meets up with pleasant bay, where kayaking and dog walking at low tide, along the shore is just amazing.
Carol and family are incredible hosts. They open and share their entire home, while attending to any concern, however small.
I don't want to say too much, since I haven't secured my time for next summer, but it is a wonderful rental and home, with wonderful hosts. We've rented homes on Cape Cod for well over 25 years, and there are only a couple that we are compelled to return to time and again. Barley House is definitely one. show more show less

The house is beautiful, sun porches are so comfortable, plenty of room to make yourself comfortable in.

My husband and I had a very relaxing stay at [this home]. The house was well-cared for, the queen bed we chose was comfortable with lots of pillows and enough blankets to keep us warm on the cool September nights; hot water steamed up with every shower, and the kitchen was well-stocked and included that Cape Cod essential, the lobster pot, which we happily made use of.
Its proximity to the little town of East Orleans and Nauset Beach also made it convenient. There was Nauset Farms for groceries or delicious ready-made lunches & dinners; there was historic Nauset Beach for long walks and there were several good restaurants in town. We had dinner at the Nauset Beach Club and enjoyed a cuisine both inventive and delectable. And everything was within a 5 minute drive of the house.
But there were other amenities that made the house really special such as the two screened-in porches in the front of the house where we enjoyed having both a candle lit dinner and a leisurely brunch. And there were so many comfortable chairs and books throughout the house that staying inside was often a very appealing alternative. And for those chilly nights, there were two wood-burning fireplaces. It was indeed a home for all comforts and all seasons.
