Thanksgiving Weekend on Cape Cod

Becky Fischer | 11/20/2015 (updated 11/22/2016)

This is the first Thanksgiving in many years that we will spend on the Cape. So I started looking at our events pages to determine fun places to take our guests over the weekend. The options are exciting, and we may venture out beyond our Lower Cape area to experience some holiday cheer.

For a full list of Cape Cod events, search by town and date on our Events page.

Here are a few Cape Cod events that we are planning to attend.

10th Annual Glassblowers' Christmas at Sandwich Glass Museum from Monday, November 15 - Friday, December 20, 2019. Hundreds of unique glass ornaments made by the region’s finest local and national glass artists, will adorn Christmas trees in the Contemporary Gallery.

Lighting of the Pilgrim Monument in Provincetown on Wednesday, November 21st from 5:00 - 7:00 PM. Celebrate and witness when they “throw the switch” and commemorate the Pilgrims’ first Landing in America in November of 1620.

Gardens Aglow A Treasured Holiday Tradition at Heritage Museums & Gardens in Sandwich. Heritage sparkles this holiday season with Gardens Aglow, featuring over nine miles of holiday lights throughout the gardens, a stunning model train exhibit in the Special Exhibitions Gallery with new features this year, and music and dance performances in the Automobile Gallery. Celebration runs on weekends from Nov 29 - Dec 29. Check out their website for more specifics. We'll be there for sure! Heritage Museum

A Seaside Christmas in Orleans offers all day free events on November 30th. Start with pancakes with Santa, explore the town all day and then end with Holiday stroll and lighting of the town tree at 4:45. We have enjoyed these events for years. Fun for all ages, even our teenage kids still like seeing Santa pull up on a boat.

The Holidays at Highfield in Falmouth. Open daily from November 30th – Saturday December 18th. Top decorators and designers showcase their talents in the elegant rooms of Highfield Hall.

The Train To Christmas Town in Buzzards Bay. Feel the holiday magic in the air the moment you arrive! Have your official Train to Christmas Town ticket ready to be punched by the conductor as you board our real working train. The music begins as we depart the station and you’ll be clapping along to our peppy theme song. Meet other book characters like Bumblebee the cuddly polar bear and the postman delivering letters to Santa. Elves will be dancing in the aisles leading sing-alongs of favorite Christmas songs. When you hear the “Chocolate Christmas” song begin to play you’ll know it’s time for cookies and hot chocolate to be served! Before you know it we’ll be arriving at Christmas Town so gather together to share the views from the window. Wave to Santa and his elves before they climb aboard to walk through the railcars to greet each boy and girl and present them with a special gift. Be sure to have your camera ready to capture this moment! We are excited to welcome new riders aboard and returning ones who want to continue the holiday tradition of visiting Santa by train. Please note both book volumes will be available to pre-order with your tickets. We encourage everyone to get into the festive spirit of the event by wearing Christmas-themed outfits, dress clothes, pajamas, ugly sweaters, etc. for your added interaction and enjoyment. The adventure starts Friday, November 29th and rides are offered each weekend at 4:30pm.
