Description

LOCATION: Enjoy your stay on this beautiful pond located in West Tisbury on the gorgeous island of Martha's Vineyard. Tisbury Great Pond is an exceptional, private, quiet sanctuary away from everything. It is where the surf rolls in across the landscape. The pond offers an abundance of activities and places to explore. When the ''cut'' is open, it is the absolute best. The beach offers numerous sand flats for the young ones to play on, the water is extremely warm and shallow, but also has deep places to swim. Then there is surfing available on the ocean side. When the ''cut'' is open, you can ride in or out depending on which way the tide is going......It is magical!! This is the place to reconnect with nature and be totally at peace. While everything else to make your Vineyard vacation wonderful is not far away, when you are here, you are far, far away in your own, off-the-grid world.

Drive down approximately 3 miles on a dirt road, and this will lead you to the house. The house sits on a 3.5 acre parcel on the west side of Middle Point and overlooks Thumb and Deep Bottom Coves. The immediate area is a globally-rare, sand plain, containing grassland and heath which extends out to the barrier beach and the ocean.

The property includes a beach and swimming area on the Pond, where one can pull up and store canoes, kayaks, and small sailboats. Take your canoe or kayak and go out exploring the pond and paddling to the barrier beach. To further enhance your stay, sailboats, canoes, and kayaks can be rented from Winds Up on the Beach Road in Vineyard Haven.

THE HOUSE: The house has (4) four bedrooms and (1) full bath. Each of the four bedrooms can accommodate 2 people. Bedroom #1 has a double bed, bedroom #2 has a double bed, bedroom #3 has twin beds, and bedroom #4 has twin beds. But these bedrooms are unlike anything you have ever seen! Everything is built in, and the overall effect is as if you were on a ship. The twin beds are not one on top of another, but rather they are perpendicular to each other, affording each person their own privacy and space. The full bath has a tub with a hand-held shower, sink, and toilet. The whole house, while 900 square feet, has a carefree, kick back your feet feel to it, and it soars two stories, with an open, flowing overall space. There is also a two-story wood stove for those chilly evenings. The appliances include a propane water heater with solar pre-heater, range, and refrigerator. Gasoline-powered water pump from the well to 55 gallon tank, gravity feed to the sinks, tub, and hoses. There is a 12 foot x 24 foot wooden deck with built-in and movable seating and two adjustable chaises. There is also an outdoor shower to rinse off the sand after coming home from the day's activities. There are (8) IKEA portable portable reading lamps with solar-charged collector batteries, as well as a lamp above each of the beds. Unbelievable as it sounds, but pure tension-reducing, there is no telephone, and no TV. The cross-ventilation and the breezes coming in off the water, makes air-conditioning unnecessary.

VIEWS: The views outside every window are absolutely breath-taking. Grassland, heath, and wide open land are the views on three sides, with the pond on the fourth side. At dusk, a gorgeous sunset paints the sky with bold, vivid, brilliant colors. So beautiful, it will take your breath away.

Please note: Tenants should bring their own sheets, pillow cases, and towels (both bath and beach). This is a non-smoking house, and no pets are allowed. In addition to the rental fee, we do charge a refundable (barring no damages) security deposit of $500, and a non-refundable cleaning fee of $500. Both of these fees will be added to the rental fee as shown on the calendar and pricing section.

If you are looking for a pure magical stay on the Vineyard, you have come to the right place.

    Beautiful location; unique house

We loved the location on Tisbury Great Pond. My family with 2 small children loved having meals on the deck and being able to walk to the sandy beach, swim and play in the sand. The house is well-designed with room for 8 to sleep and plenty of storage space. Although 'off the grid', there are plugs in most rooms, light switches for ceiling lights, and lots of solar powered lamps. The breezes from the water made the house comfortable despite the extreme heat of mid-July. And the outdoor shower is great. We suggest you bring or rent kayaks to explore the pond and the 'fingers'. We would love to return. show more show less

This house is a real charmer! It is a pleasant reminder to slow down, watch the birds, and take in the fresh air coming in from the Atlantic ocean. Wild blueberries, and cool well water are an added bonus!!

The house is so quiet and private. I love the outdoor shower as well.

A great place for couples, families, and friends. I highly recommend this house and this location. It is hard to leave once you settle into the rhythm and relaxed settings. I look forward to returning each summer!! show more show less

Compact and spacious at the same time, the comfortable house sits n the midst of an ideal refuge from the modern world. We've returned for many years for the calm and secluded atmosphere we find -- a perfect place to unwind and reconnect with the natural world on land, pond, and ocean.

The owners of this house are a retired mediator (wife) and a retired architect (husband). The house was designed and built by the husband, and you can see the love and attention to detail everywhere. The house has been lovingly cared for and maintained over the years, and every year the owners and their sons enjoy staying there themselves. We hope you will enjoy staying here as well.

What is special about this property?
The way that the house is one with its surroundings is absolute. Once you drive down a 3 mile dirt road, you feel you have entered paradise.....the land, the pond, and the ocean surround this beautiful oasis of peace, tranquility, and beauty. Truly a remarkable, unique, and special place on the Vineyard.

What is special about your town?
What really needs to be said? Martha's Vineyard is a special, beautiful place, and Tisbury Great Pond in West Tisbury is a little piece of heaven.
