Description

Description

This recently renovated and lovingly restored 1940's cottage is within walking distance of Smitty’s Ice Cream, Nauset Farms and East Orleans. Bike to Nauset Beach or head into Orleans for great coffee at the Chocolate Sparrow, or for shopping, restaurants and playgrounds. The Orleans Firebirds baseball team, part of the historic Cape Cod Baseball League, plays other Cape teams nearby at Eldredge Park. The Cape Cod Rail Trail goes through the center of Orleans, and you can rent bikes for the day or week.

The main living and kitchen area is bright and airy. The kitchen has french doors that open up to a cheerful and roomy screened porch for dining and relaxing, creating a seamless indoor/outdoor living and dining area.

Our home has three charming bedrooms and two full baths. Each bedroom has its own unique character. There is a spacious master suite with a brass queen bed, ceiling fan, tv, walk-in closet, and private bath with a soaking tub. There is another bedroom with a double bed, and a third bedroom with two single beds and large windows that open onto the screened porch. Amenities include quiet yard, screened porch, cable TV, wi-fi, charcoal grill, and outdoor shower.

The property is on a quiet street and surrounded by woods on two sides and an open field on the other side. There is a spacious side lawn for enjoying outdoor games and activities.

You have your choice of two wonderful beaches close by: Nauset Beach on the ocean side if you want waves, or Skaket Beach on the bayside is popular for families with younger children. The cottage is about halfway between the two beaches. Charter fishing is available in Rock Harbor. Various seal watching and sunset cruises are also available and a whale watching trip out of Provincetown is an amazing experience.

Pillows and bedspreads are provided. Renters are responsible to bring their own sheets and towels. There is not a washer and dryer but there is a laundromat nearby.

    My Happy Place

This little cottage is even better in person! It has been thoughtfully and beautifully restored by its owners, Jim and Barbara. A lot of love, and excellent work is evident throughout. It's the perfect place to rest and be restored. We would LIVE here if I could!
It's easy to get to, in a quiet neighborhood and within easy reach of many good restaurants, the Playhouse and lovely beaches.

This was our second year in a row at this beautiful, peaceful abode. We enjoyed many relaxing mornings and evenings on the porch. Our kids loved running around in the yard and walking to Smitty's for ice cream. Many memories were made. We hope to come back again next year! Much appreciated.

    Great Rental

We have stayed in this cottage for several years now. it is located in a quiet , woodsy , and private neighborhood. It is within easy walking distance from restaurants, a grocery store, and great ice cream stand. Nausett beach is a short bike ride around the corner. The Atlantic Play House for summer stock is right around the corner and we have been treated to the likes of; "Guys and Dolls" and "Oklahoma". If you are a fisherman either shore or boat their are many places to go. The yard is super boat friendly with a hose nearby. show more show less

    Beautiful cape house!

My family and I had the pleasure of staying in Jim and Barbara's beautiful (and VERY clean) home a few weeks ago. It was absolutely charming and also so on trend - a hard combination to pull off but they did it with this house! It had everything we needed and the attention to detail on the decor (ie: the fresh hydrangea in a vase to welcome us) did not go unnoticed. We loved the screened in porch and spent our mornings and evenings enjoying it! We walked to Whisk (great breakfast and treats), Smittys (terrific ice cream) and Nauset Farms! Being a runner I really loved the running routes around their home. Orleans is charming and picturesque! We hope to come back to this home next summer! show more show less

    Second Stay!

This was our second stay at the Summer House and it did not disappoint! We enjoyed great weather, the beach, Cape Cod baseball games and fantastic food. We will certainly be back. The Summer House is located close to so many Cape Cod treasures, but tucked away on a nice quiet side street, perfect for relaxing. Thanks to Jim for another wonderful stay!

    Great Cape Cod Cottage

This cottage is delightful! It's small, but has 3 bedrooms, which each can sleep 2 people, so it's roomy enough for 6. The back porch was our favorite place to relax! There are some room air conditioners that work well to cool the cottage down. However, on the Cape, A/C is not usually necessary because of cool breezes. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and enjoyed the Cape Cod rail trail, National Seashore and the nearby beaches.

    Highly recommend!

Our Trip to the Summer House

Over the summer my family and I stayed at the most wonderful home in Orleans. Jim and his wife have created such a warm and welcoming home for their guests. My family and I truly could not have asked for a better place to rent. It was charming and adorable. Every inch of this home is inviting and thoughtfully decorated. From the local stones shower floor from a nearby beach and the stunning photos taken by Jim. Every inch of this home shows the essence of Cape Cod.

Jim could not have been more welcoming. We truly enjoyed all the personal touches and how accommodating he was when booking.

My family and I are extremely grateful for their hospitality and we will certainly be back soon. If you're looking for a beautiful place to stay on the Cape, I highly recommend this little gem.

    Wonderful location and property

We had a wonderful stay and loved all of the thoughtful touches throughout the cottage. We loved this location in Orleans. The screened in porch was amazing & it's great how it opens so fully to the house so you feel like you are outside. Listening to the birds was also a highlight and very relaxing! Highly recommend!

    Very Tough To Beat!

My wife and I have been renting this cottage in the off seasons for 4 years now. Its central location in a very quiet wooded neighborhood is super. Despite this you are in walking distance of restaurants, groceries and even a great ice cream stand! Nauset beach is an easy bike ride as are all the Cape Cod bike trails. Jim and Barb are consummate "landlords" who live in Orleans and have raised their family there. They are not absentee landlords and truly know the lay of the land in terms of things to see and do. On a scale of 1-10 the outdoor shower gets a 10, and the small bungalow out back is perfect for overflow activities and stuff you might want to store securely and out of the elements. show more show less

Jim and Barbara have spent four years lovingly restoring this classic 1941 Cape Cod cottage.

We added a 300 square foot master bedroom and bath addition, and totally renovated the original 600 square foot cottage.

The interior walls are done in 1 X 8 ship lap pine boards, identical to the original exterior wall construction. All the ceilings except for the vaulted master bedroom are done in 1 X 6 pine bead-board. All walls were painstakingly spackled, sanded and hand-painted by Barbara, using Benjamin Moore Simply White, which gives the entire cottage a bright, crisp appearance.

Each room has its own distinctive identity and features, from the built-ins to the custom windows and furnishings. The cottage sits on a very quiet half acre, surrounded by woods and a daily chorus of birds. Our quiet street feels as though it has more people walking or biking than cars, which adds to the quiet and peaceful setting.

When they're not working on the cottage, Jim is a local real estate attorney and Barbara is a pediatric nurse. They also have five grown children and six young grandsons to try to keep track of.

What is special about this property?
Our cottage is unique in retaining the character and authenticity of the original 1941 cottage, while giving it the brightness and light of a new home. The original floors were sanded and refinished, which gives the cottage the amazing warmth of old pine. Adding larger and windows and french doors onto the screen porch give the cottage a light, outside feel.

Sitting on a quiet lot surrounded by woods and an empty field always accompanied by a chorus of birds gives the cottage the sense of peacefulness and privacy.

What is special about your town?
Orleans is one of the most desireable towns on Cape Cod. Close to wonderful beaches and lakes for swimming, surfing, fishing and kayaking, many fabulous restaurants and coffee shops, shopping, bike rentals, access to the Cape Cod Rail Trail and nightly Cape League baseball games make Orleans a great place to vacation.
