Enjoy the quiet of up-Island Martha’s Vineyard. Sunny, Cape-style house on Abel's Hill with POOL set on ridge overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and Chilmark Pond. Has wood paneled living room and large eat-in kitchen, both with fireplaces. The Little Gem is located on an easily accessible road about halfway between West Tisbury and Chilmark center, with access to private beach and tennis courts. The living room with large window seat overlooks the south lawn, and walkways. with a beautiful view beyond. Connected to the living room is an enclosed picture window kitchenette/study/sitting area with a fireplace leading to one of the bedroom suites (with two twins that can be combined to create a king size bed) with full bath/tub. The other two bedrooms are to the west of the kitchen and each have a queen bed and en suite bathroom. Upstairs is another queen bedroom and a room good for kids with two single beds. There is also a half bath.

The house is on a 7.7 acre wooded site with lawns, gravel drive, and winding paths through the woods with secluded openings ideal for play areas. Hidden from view is an adjoining small cottage sharing the pool (ok to set a schedule for private use). The private beach is reached by car or a ten-minute walk and is accessed through Chilmark Pond. Easy access to Lucy Vincent Beach and walk out the door to 60-acre nature preserve with trails in various directions.

    A jewel in vacation rentals

    The Gem is so aptly named. It is a jewel in vacation rentals.
    Just walking in the house, I can feel stressors start to fall off of me.
    My favorite place is the window seat with the great view. I love the large comfy chairs in the spacious kitchen where it's easy to cook and eat with friends and family. I like to stay in the large separate wing of the house that has a small kitchen and frig, large bathroom, and a great view too. I get to share the house with family and friends and have my privacy too. I enjoy just sitting outside of the front of the house, and by the pool looking at the view, seeing the sunrise, the sky change at sunset, and the incredible stars at night. I can even see the sunrise and the stars just lying on the window seat! The private beach is exquisite. Miles of beach. All together the Gem is an oasis in the vineyard! I can't `wait to get back there.

    A True "Gem"

    I can't say enough good things about my stay at the Gem on Abel's Hill in Chilmark, Martha's Vineyard. Being an artist, when I go on a vacation retreat I want most of all to enjoy solitude and peace and quiet. And for me, it's gotta be in a down to earth 'normal' working home where I don't need a manual to figure out how to turn the lights on! As long as there's good water pressure at the shower head, a clean refrigerator, a comfy bed, and plenty of clean linens- then I'm good! The Gem really has all that and a lot more: all the usual amenities in good working order, good wifi, quick access to the beach, a stellar natural environment overlooking the ocean, and best of all for me, plenty of quiet. To hear the wind rustling thru the trees, the ever present murmur of the Atlantic Ocean in the background- it is truly a poetic experience in an stunningly beautiful environment. Next year, I hope to stay for a longer period. Sometimes you stumble upon experiences that have a lasting effect, maybe a place that really speaks to your soul. You know you've found something really special.. And you can't wait to get there again. Over the years, The Gem has become that place for me. I highly recommend it! show more show less

    This home was built and has been owned by one family for its entirety. Amongst the first to spend summers in Chilmark the house is filled with the family's history. We have roots all over the island and often rent to family and friends.

    What is special about this property?
    We love the walks, the pool, the beach, the outdoor shower, the spring flowers and summer grasses, the bike rides and walking paths.

    What is special about your town?
    A quick drive to the all the sights plus access to children's weeklong camps at the Community Center and at The Yard - both in Chilmark. Spend all day at the beach or have fun in the pool.
