Description

The minimum rental is 32 days--or longer. Discounts are available, and no rental tax! This summer, enjoy a longer, relaxed stay on the Island. Read on...

WELCOME TO COASTWISE HOUSE! This spacious, comfortably furnished home is in the Up Island part of the Vineyard, conveniently located between Chilmark and West Tisbury. The layout of the house makes it perfect for individuals, couples, families with kids, and ''bubble'' groups who want to share their vacations--or to have an extended stay while still being able to easily work from home.

The master bedroom and a bath are downstairs (queen); three bedrooms (queen, double, two twins) and a bath are upstairs off the loft that overlooks the living and dining rooms. The open living and dining areas have a cathedral ceiling, wood floors, and operable skylights. The well-equipped kitchen was recently renovated. There is a large, separate family room/home office (queen sofa bed) with a TV and two desks, plus a spacious deck with a gas grill, table for outdoor eating, and furniture for relaxing.

The house is fully equipped, including all appliances, two cable TVs with DVR and DVDs, CD player, Bluetooth speaker, gas grill, ceiling fans, air conditioning, and wired/wireless high speed Internet. The house is set up and back from the road, surrounded by woods and a large, landscaped, private yard that faces away from the road, with plenty of parking.

Chilmark is a quintessential, Up Island town--rural, picturesque, laid-back, and tranquil with rolling meadows, working farms, and open vistas to the ocean--in many ways, another breathtaking world from what most of us are accustomed to. Menemsha is part of Chilmark and is a working fishing port. There you'll find the freshest fish you'll ever eat and extraordinary sunsets. The twice weekly Artisans' Festival and Farmers' Market, both Island traditions, are are located in nearby West Tisbury--as is access to the extensive network of Island bike trails. Still, it's also within an easy reach of fundamental services: a grocery store, lovely restaurants, a bank and ATM, the library, and the Chilmark Community Center with lots of activities and tennis courts available--all Up Island. The three Down-Island towns of Edgartown, Vineyard Haven, and Oak Bluffs are the shopping and night-life centers, each unique and an easy drive. Ferry service to the Island is in Vineyard Haven and Oak Bluffs.

But what sets Chilmark apart is Lucy Vincent Beach, lovely and facing south to the open ocean, with clean white sand; beach grass wafting in the ocean breeze; the rhythmic sound of the surf; and opportunities for sunning, boogie boarding, strolling the beach, and collecting shells and beach stones. Chilmark also has two other beaches, Squibnocket which is smaller than LVB and also ocean-facing, and Menemsha which has calm water, fishing from the jetty, and the small fishing fleet as its backdrop...and you'll have easy access to all three beaches.

Loved the House and Location

I went to the Vineyard to get in some beach time and biking with a friend. We were lucky to have booked this house. It had plenty of room (for us and our bikes,) a well stocked kitchen, a very comfy living room, a large spacious yard, and a great location. The owner was very helpful in providing us with info about how to find the bike trails (and there are lots of options,), ferry schedules, where the best beaches are, and advice on super local restaurants and shops. All in all a wonderful time. show more show less

Welcome to Martha's Vineyard and to CoastWise House, my home in Chilmark!! I have been coming to the Vineyard for over 45 years, and it's my favorite place on the planet. When I bought the house in 1999, it was the fulfillment of a long-time dream.

As a renter for all those years, I've figured out what makes a vacation house attractive and comfortable. In fact, I had rented this house for my own vacation–and then ended up buying it!

What is special about this property?
TEN REASONS WHY THIS IS A GREAT HOUSE:
1. It's located on North Rd, equally convenient to Chilmark and West Tisbury centers and an easy trip to the three down island towns–Vineyard Haven, Edgartown, and Oak Bluffs.
2. I think that Lucy Vincent Beach is the most beautiful beach anywhere–and to use this beach you have to be staying in Chilmark.
3. I can ride my bike to Alley's in W Tisbury for the paper--or to access the bike trails.
4. The house has everything I need all on the first floor, and when friends come to visit, they have their own space on the second floor.
5. With four bedrooms and two baths, it's spacious and is comfortable for couples, folks with kids, or a couple of families who want to share their vacations. The separate family room/office with two real desks offers work-from-home space for two.
6. It's quiet and private.
7. It has the amenities that I'd just as soon not do without: a dishwasher; a coffee pot that works; dishes that match; a microwave; a gas grill; pots and pans that still have their teflon, cable TV/DVR, wireless + ethernet Internet access, AND A/C!
8. I never liked going to the dump or cleaning the house the last night of vacation, so trash pick up and cleaning are included.
9. I can get fresh-from-the-boat fish any time I want it right up the road in Menemsha.
10. The Farmers' Market, Artisans' Fair, Chilmark Community Center and library, Chilmark Store, and fabulous restaurants are all nearby.

What is special about your town?
Chilmark is a quintessential, Up-Island town--rural, picturesque, laid-back, and tranquil with rolling meadows, working farms, and open vistas to the ocean--in many ways, another breathtaking world from what most of us are accustomed to. Menemsha is part of Chilmark, and there you'll find the freshest fish you'll ever eat and extraordinary sunsets. Still, it's also within an easy reach of fundamental services: a grocery store, lovely restaurants, a bank and ATM, the library, and the Chilmark Community Center with lots of available activities and tennis courts.

Chilmark also has two other beaches, Squibnocket which is smaller than LVB and also ocean-facing, and Menemsha which has calm water, fishing from the jetty, and a working fishing village as its backdrop.
