Description

Description

Watch sunsets from the front porch of this comfortable, sunny 5-bedroom Victorian home with remodeled kitchen, located conveniently in the Sunset Hill area of the old Historic District, just a short walk to the town center and 3 ocean beaches.

Step into the living room with its antique mantel over the fireplace. Bookshelves filled with interesting titles about Nantucket, shipwrecks, and children's stories invite browsing. You'll find 2 sofas, rocking chair, a stereo with CD, MP3, MD, and cassette, TV with DVD and VCR, and a table carved in the shape of a whale.

The kitchen has a dishwasher, disposal, a 20+ cubic foot refrigerator, and a ceramic topped stove; a galley pantry has a 2nd sink and lots of cabinet space. The dining room has a large table seating 10-12 and corner hutches.

Everyone goes home with a ''Beary Quaint'' teddy bear!!!

At the rear of the first floor is a cozy den with a sofa bed and rocking chair. There are many children's games and toys and a video center with X-Box, cable TV, VHS, DVD, video games, and Internet access.

The master bedroom on the ground floor has a queen bed and adjoining bathroom with whirlpool tub.

The second floor has 4 more bedrooms, each cheerily decorated with ruffled curtains and a distinctive color scheme. The rooms include 2 with queen beds, 2 with 2 twins each. There are two bathrooms upstairs.

The backdoor leads onto a deck with charcoal grill. The yard is completely fenced in with trees, flowering shrubs, a picnic table, child's swing, and an outdoor hot and cold shower.

In the garage is a 4-wheel pedal surrey that you can ''bike'' to the beach. There is no garage parking but we have an off-street parking spot behind the house.

''Beary Quaint'' had its origin as the 19th century life saving station on Muskeget Island off Nantucket's western coast. In 1931, the structure was taken down and moved to its current location. Though the layout of the rooms has changed, the original woodwork gives Beary Quaint an older, more Victorian feel. Hardwood floors, lace curtains, quaint wallpaper, stenciled walls, teddy bears, and furniture chosen for comfort make this 6-bedroom home ideal for family gatherings.

Off-summer weekends: $2995 with extra nights @ $995 Memorial Day wkend @ $3500.

    Perfect Nantucket Getaway

This was our fourth stay at Beary Quaint! We love the cozy, homey feel of the house with its family photos and comfy furniture, and we love the in town location that allows us to walk everywhere. Steps Beach is very close, and you can stop by Something Natural for sandwiches on the way. It's easy to go into town for restaurants and strolling (and ice cream at The Juice Bar) without having to deal with parking.

The house is fully equipped with everything you'll need for your stay--lots of dishes and cookware, beach towels, bicycles, books and games for just hanging out, and plenty of room for all! The outdoor shower is really great for after the beach, and the back yard is peaceful and perfect for relaxing in the chaise on the back deck. The rockers on the front porch are a great place for reading and for watching the sunsets. This is a comfortable, welcoming house for a fantastic vacation!

    Great Nantucket House for Families

We loved staying at Beary Quaint. It has the best location with a short walk to town, the ferry, and the beach. The house is set up perfectly for families, and has everything you need for kids of all ages - 2 pack n plays, high chairs, bed rails, toys and books, sand toys and boogie boards, video games and DVDs. The kitchen is well stocked and we love the big dining room table and outside table on the back deck where we ate most of our meals. The backyard is fenced and private. We also love the big front porch with rocking chairs to watch the sunsets. With extended family, it is great to have the three bathrooms plus the outdoor shower. The unique pedal surrey was lots of fun. We love the amenities and charm of this home and definitely plan on staying here again.

    The perfect getaway

Beary Quaint is clean, comfortable, and has everything you need for an enjoyable stay on Nantucket. There is plenty of space indoors and out, so it is perfect for large families or groups of friends. We love being tucked in a quiet neighborhood, but still a close walk to town, bike paths and Something Natural.

Our most recent visit was a bit rainy, but the playroom of toys and books kept our kids entertained. Our son also loved playing wiffle ball in the backyard.

We really appreciate that there are high chairs and pack n plays available - making mealtimes easier and allowing our family with young children to travel a little bit lighter!

We treasure our time at Beary Quaint - it truly feels like home, away from home. Thank you for another great stay!

    Cozy Clean Comfortable

When we visit Nantucket, we love to stay at Beary Quaint. It’s a true treasure and we’ve made many family memories here. It's quaint with modern conveniences. We love the carved wood mantel, and whale coffee table! There’s plenty of space for extended family and the house is clean, comfortable, and has everything you could possibly need. It is especially convenient for families with young children as there are high chairs and pack and plays and so many toys, games and books to keep kids of all ages entertained (adults too!). There’s even a surrey, and our toddler grandson had a blast riding it on the quaint streets of the neighborhood. We loved relaxing in the swing and rockers on the front porch and playing in the large backyard.

The neighborhood is quiet, and it’s also close to town. We walked there every day (sometimes twice) to shop or enjoy a ice cream treat from the Juice Bar. We also enjoyed sandwiches from Something Natural, right around the corner! The owners take great care of the house. We appreciate this and can see it in family photos taken through the years that display the various renovations. They are displayed in the comfy playroom/den. Our grandson still talks about all the fun memories at Beary Quaint, and we do too.

All communication with the owners is clear and, if needed, caretaking help is readily available. This is a five-star historic home away from home. Thank you for a wonderful stay. We can’t wait to get a chance to return.

    Great place

We had 4 couples (8 adults) and the associated 5 kids 5 and under for a week in November. This was a great place for our family to enjoy Thanksgiving together. Well set up for kids with a playroom, highchairs and pak n plays. The surrey bike was a big hit! Close to town for an easy stroll to the docks or a stop for hot chocolate. We'll be back!

    Fantastic!

The house was so comfortable and well equipped! We felt right at home, and we loved being able to walk to the beach and to town. The bikes and surrey were super fun. We will definitely be back!

We (John & Cynthia Hrones) have our home base in Needham MA. John was a software developer and manager at Digital Equipment Corporation before moving on to be a management educator at Liberty Mutual Insurance, and now is a sports executive at the Needham Track Club where he manages a year round youth track and field program and sponsors several very large track meets and road races. Cynthia was a librarian at Heath School in Brookline and has been an active photographer for many years. We have two children, Emily, who owns and teaches ballet at Charles River Ballet Academy, and Pamela, who teaches ESL in Holliston and tutors children independently. We have four grandchildren - Lucy 16, Eve 10, April 10, and Jude 6. Our cherished Nantucket home has been a hobby for 35+ years with many projects spanning those year.

What is special about this property?
Beary Quaint used to be the life saving station on Muskeget Island until it was taken down and moved to North Liberty Street in the 1930s. We have the only pedal surrey on Nantucket Island! And it's not our first surrey. About 30 years ago, we bought 2 surreys from Cook Cycle when they were moving into mopeds. Eventually they wore out and we bought a new one - imported from Italy. We have put two significant additions into the house. We added a 3rd bathroom upstairs and later redid the kitchen and added the back deck.

What is special about your town?
Nantucket fell on bad times in the 1800s and few people built new homes. As a result, the homes of the 18th and 19th century were preserved in a unique community of antique architecture. Nantucket is known for its expansive beaches which never seem to be crowded. It is also filled with art galleries, many top top restaurants, and interesting sites such as the Whaling and Life Saving Museum and the Oldest House -- which is a very short walk from Beary Quaint.
