Description

Looking for a Nantucket cottage the way they used to be before interiors were gutted and ''simple'' was replaced with fancy?
Our quaint but un-renovated antique three-bedroom house in town is now available for rent this summer. A five-minute walk leads to the town center and an easy ten minutes by foot to the ferry docks, restaurants, harbor, and shuttle bus stops to reach other areas of the islands such as Surfside Beach, 'Sconset and Madaket.

This quaint antique home takes visitors back in time to an earlier era. It is located in one of the most beautiful and historic Nantucket neighborhoods and is only a short stroll to upper Main Street, location of the well-known mansions, the ''Three Bricks.'' This is an ideal base for visitors who want to relax at one of the many island beaches, bicycle around the island, visit Nantucket's famous restaurants, or simply read a good book. The house has no TV or internet service to distract visitors from the beautiful surroundings. While we strongly recommend bringing only bicycles, on street parking is available catch-as-catch can with a summer parking permit.

The house, built in about 1847 and expanded at the turn of the century (1900, not 2000), includes an eat-in kitchen with a refrigerator, gas stove, microwave, toaster oven, and washer/dryer. It has no dishwasher. There is also a front sitting room and dining room. It has a small back yard with two levels.

The house sleeps up to seven (max) people in four bedrooms. On the ground floor is a bedroom with one double bed and a half bath. The second floor has a larger bedroom with two twin beds, a small bedroom with one twin bed, and a full shared bath with claw foot tub (no shower). The last bedroom in back has a full bath with a shower curtain.

This house has many antique features including a steep staircase to the second floor, which should be kept in mind by those with mobility concerns.

We have been renting our house since approximately 2008, switching this year to WeNeedaVacation.com because of changes, decreased control, and added expense for renter and homeowner as well to use the large national vacation rental website. We feel that renters seeking a very basic, unrenovated cottage, with a lower rental price, have been happy with our house (which is why returning renters have already booked five summer weeks for 2018). We have had renters disappointed when they expected a fancy property for a discount price. If you think you might be disappointed, save your money and look elsewhere. We hope that if you have tempered expectations, you will be pleasantly surprised.

What is special about this property?
Guests are particularly delighted about the convenient location in town. It is one of a dwindling number of houses that haven't been gutted or ''fancified''. It has a cozy back yard with two levels, and wildlife nearby in the Lily Pond conservation area.

What is special about your town?
The history of Nantucket, and the preservation, at least on the outside, of houses from the 1700s, 1800s, and early 1900s makes the island a bit different from other places. It isn't as relaxed as it once was, but if you take advantage of trips to Sanford Farm, Tuppancy Links, the Lily Pond, bike paths, and the many beaches, each with a different vibe, you'll share a Nantucket experience that spans the ages...
