Description

Description

Our comfortable, sunny 5-bedroom Cape and 1-bedroom cottage—both newly renovated and air-conditioned, are located on a private 2/3 acre, fully enclosed with fencing on a small cove of Lewis Bay. The property faces south, with water views from both upstairs and downstairs in the main house. The cottage is right on the water. (The main house can be rented without the cottage in early June, fall, or with advance negotiations. Ask Marian about our special rates.)

From the covered porch, you look out over the large, terraced and landscaped back yard to the inner and outer harbors of Lewis Bay. Make your way down the wonderful old stone steps to the cottage, marina, and dock. Lights strung along the stair railings (and on a timer), allow for a romantic, evening walk down to the cottage and water. The private dock is 8 ft. deep at the end of the float at high tide and 16 ft. long, and can support a 25 ft. (max) sailboat and/or a 25 ft. motor boat.

The spacious, charming and gracious 5-bedroom main house sleeps 9-10 and has 3 full and 2 half baths. The sweet cottage is at water's edge with a dock and water views/access. The cottage sleeps 3 and has a kitchen, dining area and fireplace in the main room with a twin bed, plus a queen bedroom and full bathroom with European shower. There is also a small Miele washing machine and new 3/4 sized fridge.

In the main house, there are paneled fireplaces in the living room and the upstairs TV room which is located between the two large master bedrooms.

We are within walking distance (5-7 minutes) of downtown Hyannis with its wonderful restaurants, shops, and clubs. The Steamship Authority and Hy-Line, with ferry service to Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard, are within walking distance of our compound as is the bus and train station. A small, sandy swimming beach, where I like to do laps, is located 1/2 mile from the house, a short walk down Lewis Bay Rd. It's one cove over from our cove.

We have installed new wiring, plumbing and air conditioning along with new windows in the main house, but have endeavored to keep the antique charm of the 40's era Cape. The new mullioned windows keep the house quiet even on the rowdiest summer nights. Wonderful, old paneled doors and brass hardware are original throughout the house along with some original Art Deco towel bars and original Deco heatolators, vents which allow heat out into the room from the fireplace.

In the main house, there are plenty of generous, mullioned windows in every room with white cloth, black-out shades on the windows allowing for privacy and darkness.

Three bedrooms are featured downstairs: One bedroom has a queen-sized bed, water view, and shares the new full bath with another bedroom with double bed. The shared bath has a grab bar and built-in seat in the shower to provide safety and comfort for the elderly or infirm. The new shower also has great water pressure and beautiful, frameless glass doors. The third bedroom has pretty twin beds and an original private full bath with shower/bath combo. There is also a new half bath off of the living room. All the bathrooms are decorated in black and white tile in the Deco style of the 40's in keeping with the spirit of the house.

The dining area overlooking the water accommodates 8-10. There are 3 tall chairs at the kitchen island for extra guests. The kitchen, which also has a water view, is newly expanded and open with granite counters and all new appliances including a wine fridge in a generous great room with paneled fireplace.

A lovely, curved staircase leads to the upstairs family/tv room with water view, fireplace, and armoire home entertainment center. It is flanked by two large master suites with king beds. One with a shared full bath, and one with a new half bath and water view where one can see sports fishing boats dock in the harbor. From the family room and the larger master bedroom, you can look out at the water and watch the Steamship ferries arrive or depart from Nantucket or Martha's Vineyard.

There is a large basement in the main house where laundry facilities are located and clothes lines to hang fine hand-washing and wet towels.

Despite being close to all the exciting pleasures of downtown Hyannis, our home has a fenced, private, hidden-garden atmosphere with a huge old Buckeye tree out front and many trees and bushes providing privacy and scenic beauty out back. We have preserved the wonderful old deco elements, and enhanced the home with more deco design features, but added modern conveniences such as air conditioning and new windows which, when closed, make our home cool and quiet during the happy days and nights of the summer season.

Decorated with a combination of antique furniture, an eclectic mix of family and antique artwork, and newer, comfortable furnishings that include new beds, the house will take you back to the genteel, old days of Cape Cod. But it also features new plumbing, new wiring, a new kitchen, new mullioned windows and fresh paint. There is room for a maximum of 6 cars in the driveway. You can sit out on the covered porch and look out at the harbor view, barbecue on the grill and enjoy your private yard. We love to hear the charming old boat whistles during the day, but are glad that they are mercifully silent at bedtime.

The sweet, newly renovated one-bedroom cottage at water's edge is a delight with a great room that includes a living room with fireplace, original kitchen, dining area looking out to Lewis Bay and your dock and float. The new bathroom with tiled, European shower is off of the bedroom. There is a twin bed in the living room for a child or adult. We also have outside dining table and chairs for 4 at the waterside.

About our green amenities: We had an energy retrofit done in 2018 to make our buildings less expensive and greener to heat or cool. They put in new insulation where there was old and put in new insulation where there was none. Also wrapped pipes and filled in cracks around doors etc. All new insulation in the cottage ceiling, walls and under the house was blown in foam insulation.

Fantastic Thanksgiving Stay
Our family had a Thanksgiving reunion this year in this lovely house and it was fantastic. There is plenty of room for everyone. There is a full kitchen with everything you need in it, it was impressive. I was surprised how private the house felt, while you are just a walking distance away from town. The cottage was also quite nice with beautiful view of the Marina. Since it was November, the weather was cold so we didn't get to hang out in the backyard, but the house has a big backyard for spring/summer/fall visits. Marian is very responsive and easily reachable, she checked in a few times before our visit to make sure the house had everything we needed. There were more than enough sheets, bedding, pillows and blankets, we were very comfortable in the middle of the winter on one of the coldest Thanksgiving's of the past 30 years. Thank you for sharing your house with us, we hope to come back in the future. show more show less

Loved the house. Kitchen all remodeled. Great location. Air conditioning worked well.
Lots of sleeping space and rooms were nice. Place was clean. Our only concern was moisture in basement and musty smell in basement and cottage by dock. Enough towels, but missing kitchen towels and dish cloths. Marian the owner was very accommodating and kept in communication with us throughout our stay. Would return.

Wonderful home at a great location.
This home was great for our family! Very spacious and wonderfully decorated. The kitchen was renovated and had just about everything needed to make our dinners. We enjoyed eating outside in the private backyard. The cottage was perfect for a friend who came to visit for a night. We walked into town and to the harbor where we enjoyed a harbor cruise and dinner at the black cat tavern. We had a couple of kayaks delivered from rideaway kayaks and also rented bikes from the bike zone. We used them to get to the closest beaches. If you decide to drive and park at one of the many beaches you will need a beach pass. Daily ones for $20 can be obtained from the beach itself but a weekly pass good at multiple beaches can be purchased for $70 at the town rec center.

Thank you Marian for sharing your lovely home with us so we could enjoy the Cape!

What a delightful place!
We had a great time and would surely come back to this house if we did not choose a different location every summer. The owner was very nice and easy to communicate with. We are so glad we picked this house for our Hyannis/Cape Cod vacation.

Just a terrific property!
We visited for 5 days at Thanksgiving and had a great time with our family. The main house is lovely and spacious, and it has been beautifully renovated. It has a great yard for kids to play. And you can walk down to the water, where the separate cottage is located, and out on your very own dock. The phrase "waterfront compound" is quite appropriate, and you can have lots of fun just exploring the property. The owners are very friendly and welcoming folks who provided lots of helpful notes and guidance. We were very pleased with our decision to rent this property. show more show less

Simply Fantastic, Everything We Hoped For
Marian & Gleed's lovely Hyannis home was simply perfect for our family getaway. We had 12 people staying at the house including our 4 kids (29,27,20, &18); old friends and my sister and brother-in-law. The house was so spacious we never felt crowded and the kitchen was large enough for everyone to congregate. We had bikes delivered from Bike Zone, kayaks delivered from RideAway Kayak and rented a 21 foot pontoon one day from All Cape Boat rentals (all great places and awesome customer service!). Because of all this and the great location everyone could do their own thing or we could all hang together. Easy day trip to Nantucket and to Provincetown. We walked into town for shopping and ice cream and enjoyed the bar/restaurant right next door.

The beds were super comfy, linens soft and the kitchen was well stocked. Appliances (including a wine refrig we put to good use) were all new and well-maintained.

One of the highlights of the trip was sitting on "our" dock and watching the awesome fireworks on July 4th.

Thank you Marian and Gleed for let us "borrow" your little bit of paradise for a week. We hope to return again soon!!!

Spacious Cape Cod home, bonus Cottage and dock, beautiful back yard. And great location!
We had a good experience. The location was close to two beaches, ferry service to Nantucket and Martha's Vineyard and you could walk into town. We loved the park nearby and attended two concerts there. There is also a good selection of restaurants within walking distance. We had plenty of space for our family reunion of 12. The beds were comfortable. There is some road noise in the front downstairs bedroom. The back yard was great for our two youngest grandsons, ages 2 and 4 to play in. Our 18 year old grandson enjoyed sleeping in the cottage and the opportunity of practicing his trumpet privately ?? The kitchen was great and well stocked. We enjoyed some quality time with some of your games upstairs as well. Thank you for providing a lovely home for memory making! show more show less

Comfortable, Clean Accommodations
Stayed with a large group in this home. The home was clean and well maintained. Kitchen is lovely. View is lovely. Proximity to a small beach and a short walk into Hyannis town was ideal. Would stay again in a heartbeat.

My husband, Gleed, who is from Ohio, and I bought this wonderful, spacious Cape in Hyannis in 2014 and renovated it during 2015 and 2016. We love Cape Cod and fell in love with this old, deco beauty well-built in 1942. Gleed is a keen sailor and spent many summers on the ocean as a child swimming, fishing and water skiing. I grew up in Wisconsin and loved being at the lakes with my parents and many siblings, camping, fishing, and keeping cool in the water all day. We love the architecture on the Cape and love having a dock for our small boats.

What is special about this property?
Our guests say that our house doesn't feel like a rental. That's because we made it our home away from home. We replaced the electrical and plumbing works and opened up the living room, dining area, and kitchen with new appliances to make a great room. We did our best to keep the old built ins and deco details. We also added central ir-conditioning, one full bathroom, and 2 half baths with deco-style tiling and fixtures. The cottage was given a moderate makeover with a new full bathroom with European shower and air conditioning and new kitchen appliances. We installed new beds in all of the bedrooms with vintage lamps, dressers and side tables. There are also vintage Currier and Ives and seaside-themed artworks that fit in with the gracious, old building.

What is special about your town?
Hyannis is midCape and known for its manyrestaurants, shops and museums. Our location is ideal in that it's private with a fully-fenced yard and so many trees and shrubs, that even though we are right on Hyannis Inner Harbor, you can't see the main house from the water. You can see our dear little cottage though as you come in on the ferry from the islands. It sits right next to our dock and looks out to the harbor and sports fishing boats. We are only a quick kayak-row from the public landing and you can even row over to Baxter's for lunch.

Our compound is walking distance from boat excursions, the artists shacks, free concerts in the park and downtown restaurants, museums and shops. Your guests can come in by plane and still go many places without a car.
