Charming Cottage - Close to Everything!

We stayed at this house for one month in August. It was a great rental for our family. Here is the short list of what we loved:

+ Owner was extremely responsive and helpful. There were some little things that came up and she made everything right, right away. This makes a huge difference!
+ House was very clean; Pottery Barn sofa was comfy. Hammock in backyard was wonderful for reading and relaxing.
+ Lots of little extras like sand toys for kids, bicycles, umbrellas, beach towels, etc. Also movies and games in living room. Kitchen is well equipped and organized and recently renovated.
+ Rooms were large and tastefully decorated.
+ Being walking distance to the farm market was wonderful. We went there every day, learned what times different baked goods came out to time our trips. It is a five minute walk or a 2 minute bicycle ride.
+ Price is reasonable.
+ Island Grove has 2 tennis courts and, as a development, does not have a lot of traffic so it was quiet. It is close to the bike trail leading into Edgartown.
+ Closets in all bedrooms were huge, which made unpacking and organizing so much easier (and created a little play space / clubhouse for the kids).

In terms of improvements or advice for other renters, here are a couple of notes:
- A/C are 3 window units in bedrooms, not central AC. We brought a fan to blow cold air from downstairs BR into the living areas on hot, muggy days.
- The outdoor areas were nice but could use updating - the shower was a curtain not a walled structure and often that meant that the curtain moved and sometimes stuck to one's body while showering. The outdoor table was small - only sat 4 people comfortably. A new shower enclosure, maybe a chaise or two and larger table - even picnic style - would add a lot of value to the outdoor space (but would also increase the price, I am sure, but would also lead us to spend more time in the nice private backyard).
- Other than the basement, there is no dry place to leave bicycles, which can be a bit challenging with the stairs. If you don't want to carry them up and down the stairs, bring a drop cloth to cover them up.

All in all it was great and I can't say enough about how friendly and accommodating the owners were. This is one of the best deals around and anyone who has done a lot of rentals will immediately appreciate the difference that nice taste in decorating + a caring and communicative owner makes. I mean, when we asked if there was a way to play music from iPhone, she said "great idea" and had an iHome speaker shipped to the house. When we asked if there was one of those covers that links two twin beds to form a king so you don't feel the gap in-between she said "great idea'" and bought one of those, too. We thought that was pretty awesome and are looking forward to returning again next summer. show more show less
