Description

Description

Located on the outskirts of Edgartown near the West Tisbury line is our lovely two bedroom, two bath home sitting in a three acre meadow. This home is part of a compound, with a 3 bedroom main house and an owners' studio, that includes a salt chlorinated, solar heated, 16 X 32 foot swimming pool shared by both houses. The house is entirely separate and private with its own bluestone patio for outdoor grilling and dining as well as a large deck with an outdoor shower and hot tub.

The house features a large central living area with a well stocked kitchen, dining area for 6, and a large living room centered around a gas fire stove. On either end of the living area are two bedrooms featuring queen beds and window seats overlooking the meadow. Off the living room is a wonderful sun porch with dining for eight and a queen sleeper sofa.

The house is tastefully and comfortably furnished and is amply supplied with linens, towels, and beach towels. Most days there is a breeze that blows off the ocean through the meadow, but just in case the humidity and heat of a Vineyard summer overrides the meadow breeze, the bedrooms and living area are air conditioned. We have recently added an ac unit on the sunporch for use at night should you choose to use the sleeper sofa. Kitchen appliances have been recently update. Other amenities include a dishwasher, washer/dryer, Direct TV, and Internet.

Just a short drive away is Long Point Reservation, our favorite beach on the island. In the other direction is a 12 minute drive to South Beach in Katama. The house is truly centrally located being 5 miles from each of the three major towns of Vineyard Haven, Oak Bluffs, and Edgartown. At the entrance to the road leading to the property is access to the bike path that leads you to all areas of the island.

There are bike racks to handle six bikes. You can bike to Morning Glory Farm for local farm produce and fresh baked goods. It's only a ten minute drive to the Farmer's Market in West Tisbury. Available for your use if you have a vehicle that can transport them are kayaks for use in the Vineyard ponds.

A perfect island getaway to relax, enjoy a leisurely swim, or sit in the hot tub under the Vineyard sky after a busy day enjoying all the island has to offer. Enjoy your down time watching the wildlife in the meadow, deer, wild turkey and rabbits abound. House is also furnished with a Disney collection of VCR movies and many games and puzzles for the family to enjoy. Depending upon availability, there is an option to book both this house and the main house (see Property ID #27182) together for multiple family visits.

Family Favorite!

We have been coming to Martha's Vineyard for vacations for numerous years and have stayed at a various homes but this house was by far our family favorite! The house was beautiful and extremely neat and clean. The layout was perfect for our family and provided everything that one could want. The meadow is picturesque with deer, wild turkeys and rabbits included! After a long day at South Beach enjoying the solar heated pool was a great way to wind down the day. Betty Jean and Bill were very welcoming and were so nice to our family! We certainly plan on coming back again next year!

PS. One week is not enough!!!!

Great place!

We stayed with daughter and fiance in June 2019. The home is lovely and very comfortable and the pools and grounds are immaculate. Betty Jean is so very accommodating that we wanted to invite her to our home by the time we left. Good luck catching her sitting still though!

We observed our 10th anniversary while there and ate and drank our way all over the island.
Had an amazing anniversary dinner at l'etoile in Edgartown and could not recommend it any higher. Right Fork Diner at Katama Airpark was our favorite breakfast spot.

We hope to be back on the island again before too long and would most definitely stay here again. By the way, if you get a chance to see The Vineyard Sound perform, do not miss it. That was an unexpected and great treat.

Thanks again, Betty Jean and Bill, hope to see you again someday!

Beautiful Home

Excellent vacation rental for small family. Fit our needs perfectly. Fully equipped kitchen, nice patio, and wonderful hot tub on deck separate from patio area. Rental was well located convenient to Oak Bluff and Edgartown. We biked to both towns and also took ferry to Chappy. Swimming pool was kept warm by solar system. Immaculate grounds. We also rented the larger home for the total of 11. Nice large table in larger house and a island that sat us all for dinner.

We enjoy watching families get to enjoy getting together in a place that lets them gather together and yet be separate when needed. Our two houses 27182 and 27145 can be rented together or separately to fit your needs. We love having families like yours take advantage of our little paradise.

Lovely home

We stayed at this home in June and then again in September 2017. The house is beautiful. All on one floor, it has an open concept, lots of light, and soaring ceilings. It also has a private backyard with a pretty meadow view and a hot tub. Our daughter was a year and a half at the time of our visit, so we really appreciated it being single level. The sunroom was also fairly easy to toddler proof, so we spent a lot of time there. The salt water pool, which is shared with the two other homes on the property, was a bonus on the warmer days. Since we visited during the shoulder season, the gas stove was also a plus, making the home feel warm and cozy at night. show more show less

Fantastic Property

We have been enjoying this charming property for the last several years. The inside is clean, open and full of light. Our favourite spot is the screened-in porch where we eat, read, relax and socialize. The setting in the meadow is so beautiful, quiet and relaxing. And we LOVE the pool area. We spend hours hanging out there and enjoying it with our adult children when they come to visit for a few days each summer. And Bill and Betty Jean are the best landlords. They are always ready to with anything, and it is a bonus and a pleasure to have our daily chats with them! show more show less

Beautiful, private get-away

This was the third time we have been back to the "Kennedy Compound." We love it there. We stay in the "guest house" that sleeps 6. Bill and Betty Jean keep their property in pristine condition and everything you need is there - games, beach chairs, kayaks, beach towels, movies and more. The location is very private and peaceful. The guest house is absolutely beautiful as well as comfortable. There are lots of windows that allow natural light. The in-ground, outdoor, heated, saltwater pool is a real bonus. Our 3 little granddaughters never want to get out!
It is a wonderful Vineyard get-away!

Betty Jean and Bill bought the property in 1999 and began developing it as an eventual retirement home. Betty Jean was a school librarian in Texas and Bill did international consulting work in the development of retail marketing and design concepts. We are the parents of four wonderful children and grandparents to five unbelievable grandchildren who love coming to the Vineyard to visit when the houses aren't occupied. Betty Jean's sister was very influential in our decision to buy this property. As a real estate agent on the island, she found the perfect spot, and with her foresight, we each developed three acres and began to fulfill our dreams. Her creativity designed the guest house and garage studio and the idea to provide a vacation home that would outshine the best and we began our journey. The main house was one of Coastal Living magazine's feature houses which we used as a basis for our present design. After nine years of managing projects and rentals from Texas, we completed the final projects of putting in the pool and finishing the basement in the main house as a recreation room. In 2009 Betty Jean retired and we moved to the island where Bill still continues occasional consulting and we are able to provide the unique ability to manage the property on site but still maintain a distance from the guests who enjoy the wonderful experience of vacationing in paradise.

What is special about this property?
The peaceful relaxing atmosphere of the homes in the meadow away from the crowded vacation towns on the island provide a perfect retreat for a quiet time after a busy day enjoying the marvelous activities that only Martha's Vineyard can offer. Our guests enjoy the wonderful starlit sky from the private hot tub or a swim in the mineral pool heated by the sun. Each house has its own outdoor living space with a bluestone patio, barbecue and teak furniture. Most days our guests enjoy the wonderful breezes that drift across the meadow but on those few hot humid days that sometimes linger for a few days the houses have air conditioning. Even on a rainy day, this home is cozy and friendly to all who stay here. Betty Jean and Bill are just a moment away to offer advice on the island's best or to have the pool and hot tubs sparkling and ready for your daily use while also ensuring the lawn, landscaping and property are kept in immaculate condition. Their presence is available when needed but most of the time out of sight.

What is special about your town?
Being on the outskirts of Edgartown on the West Tisbury line is a definite plus. We are 5 miles from each of the three main towns of Vineyard Haven, Oak Bluffs and Edgartown. Access to all three towns is a short drive entering from the back roads which avoids much of the heavier tourist traffic. Access to the Up island towns of West Tisbury, Chilmark and Aquinnah also avoids the heavier traveled roads. it truly is central to all that the island offers. Long Point Beach, South Beach, Farmer's Market, Morning Glory Farm. art galleries, the MV Agricultural Hall and Grange Hall are all just a few minutes away. The bike trail is accessible just at the entrance to the road that leads to the property and there are bike racks available for your bikes or rental bikes that can be there when you arrive. You can bike the many bike paths that wind across the island, or you can walk or ride the dirt roads that wander through the nearby Sheriff's Meadow. Also available are kayaks for use in the many Vineyard ponds if your car can be used to carry them. We try to provide you with a very special experience in vacation homes in a very special location.
