Description

This 115 year old Cape Cod cottage atop Corn Hill, the highest dune on Cape Cod Bay, offers an unparalleled view of Cape Cod Bay from Plymouth to Provincetown. Take the dune steps or sand path down to your private bay beach and later enjoy a spectacular sunset from your own front porch. This classic Cape Cod cottage provides modern amenities while retaining its historical charm and beach cottage comfort and atmosphere.

The cottage has two bedrooms upstairs, one with a window overlooking Cape Cod Bay, the other with two twin beds. Downstairs is a living room facing the Bay, a separate dining room, and a kitchen that is very well-stocked with utensils, pots and pans, appliances, etc.--including a new Italian gas range with convection oven for those who like to cook.
The living room, kitchen, and bedroom facing the Bay are equipped with overhead fans.
The front porch on the Bay side is a favorite place to sit and read, share a glass of wine with friends, and watch the sunset.

Enjoy the private beach and swimming in the warm bay waters as well as proximity to ocean beaches, hiking, biking, kayaking, fishing, golf, shops, galleries, and restaurants in nearby Wellfleet and Provincetown. Or just relax and enjoy the magic of being in one of the most beautiful spots on earth. For more photos and information please go to our website.

Unique to cottage 10 (among the 6 small Corn Hill cottages) is the high-end gas range with convection oven and a corner shower in the bathroom, which provides additional bathroom space.

Beautiful, gracious and magical!

Always an amazing time on the hill! Nancy's cottage is beautifully appointed, thoughtfully and tastefully decorated, with lovely furniture, hangings, artwork and fixtures. Beside the lovely decor, it is comfortable, with a great kitchen and superbly set up for cooking. Good beds. Finally, and most importantly an amazing view from the highest point on the Cape, with spectacular sunsets! Just walk down the hill to the private beach. Enjoy the view of the bay and Provincetown from your own porch or from the deck...always a breeze to cool you down. Overhead fans in LR, kitchen and bedroom. Best bathroom on the hill. We love it there! show more show less

A Real Cape Cod Getaway

If you want the true Cape Cod experience then you need to be in Truro. More specifically you need to be at Corn Hill. And not just Corn Hill but THESE cottages. And if you are fortunate enough, stay in Cottage 10. As someone who has vacationed on Cape Cod for over 30 years, I can say with authority that this is THE place to be. There's no mini-golf or swimming pool, so if that's more your style then this is not for you. But, if you are looking to decompress, unplug, and get back to nature (with one of the most breathtaking views on the Eastern seaboard) then these rustic little gems might be for you.

Truro. Not most vacationers first choice when they think of Cape Cod. And that's a good thing! What separates Truro from other Cape Cod destinations is the fact that it *is* remote. It is the furthest town on the Cape (save P-town) and that's part of the reason it's so sparsely populated, even during the busy summer season. The other reason that tourists eschew Truro is its "lack of things to do." But that is one of its assets. Having nothing to do is part of the allure. I don't know about you, but I like my getaways to be unstructured and relaxing. If you want to surf, you can surf. If you want to be a beach vegetable, well you can do that as well.

Corn Hill. This tiny section (with its namesake town beach) of Truro is quintessential Cape Cod. It is off the beaten path and therefore never gets too crowded. Even on the busiest of days, I have never seen the beach even close to the people-density of, say, any beach in Brewster.

Corn Hill Cottages. These rustic old wooden bungalows were built in the late 1800's, and staying in one is like taking a trip back in time. Sure there's electricity, and most even have wi-fi, but if you're looking for a place that has all the creature comforts of home, then you're doing it wrong. I mean, you wouldn't bring your espresso maker (with the milk frother) on a camping trip, right? The cottages are the perfect place to reconnect with nature, read a book, write a book, or just get some rest. In fact, a more appropriate name for this community might be "The Downtime Experience."

Cottage 10: My family and I have stayed in several cottages and have, at a minimum, visited *every* cottage, and I can tell you that #10 is the best. First, if you decide to rent one of these cottages you really want one of the ones facing the bay. Aside from the spectacular view, you get the wonderful breeze which basically keeps the cottage livable morning through night, even during the heart of the summer. One of my favorite features of #10 is that it is one of the only cottages which DOES NOT have a television. For me, getting away from it all starts with getting away from TV! But what #10 does have (and I admit it's a bit over the top) is a world-class bathroom (for a cottage). Relative to the other cottages, #10 is in a class of its own. The owner has continually modernized and luxuriated the bathroom since we started renting and there is nothing more refreshing than taking a shower after a long day at the bay. The kitchen, like all the cottages, is quite spartan. There's no microwave (good thing!) and it has (obviously) small cooking and prep areas. However, the real cooking pleasure comes from using one of the Weber charcoal grills outside. Yes, it takes forever to cook anything but wow, once your food is ready, I swear you'll buy one when you get home (I know this from experience).

The sleeping accommodations are adequate. In the master there's a double bed. I wish it was larger but, given the limited space in the room, it's probably the optimal size. There's also a futon, which we mainly use for storage. The other bedroom has 2 twin beds (bring a fan or two since that room does not get the benefit of the bay breeze).

If you want to experience an authentic Cape Cod vacation then this is where you need to be

Owner Response:

Thanks for the positive review, and for being such a long and loyal tenant! We now have a fan in the small bedroom, so hopefully that should suffice--because of the slant of the ceiling, a ceiling fan won't work in there or we would put one in. Also, we are putting a queen bed in the master bedroom this spring.

The Little House That Heals

I stayed at Nancy's place two years ago. With every turn in the road, the closer I got, the more I could feel like heavy weight was being lifted. Then finally, you're at the top of the hill overlooking the bay. Her tiny little flower garden beckons you in. The screen door even slams (in a good way). I walked into a brightly lit kitchen with all the things and a pretty white curtain in the window, letting warm breezes in. The dining room is sweet. I mostly used it for writing and journaling. The living room was cozy and the four windows facing south and west (?) provided a constant fresh breeze. No fan needed. The bedrooms were clean, quaint, and comfortable. I loved the "master" with its view of the water.

I had everything I needed for the days I spent on the beach at Corn Hill and elsewhere (cooler, umbrella, umbrella stand, etc). Nancy was also readily available, but I didn't need a thing. I made friends with the neighbors and we watched the sunset every night from the shared landing.

I am returning again this year and plan on doing so until I can't anymore. If you're looking for all the things that summer on the ocean brings: magic, memories, healing, restoration, history, then look no further.

I have owned my Corn Hill cottage for 24 years, after having rented it each summer for 10 years before buying it.

What is special about this property?
It is impossible to describe the unique qualities of the Corn Hill Cottages, which were built 115 years ago. The obvious major assets are the view of the bay (with the Pilgrim Monument in Provincetown in the background), the sunsets, direct access to our private bayside beach, and the often spectacular low tides.

I have put a great deal of effort into making my cottage both as attractive as possible and well-equipped with conveniences, down to the smallest details (e.g., plenty of hooks for clothing, towels, etc.). My kitchen is very well-equipped, including a new Italian gas range with a convection oven. I have retained some of the original fixtures and furniture to preserve the historic nature of the cottage, while keeping everything in good condition.

What is special about your town?
Truro is a unique place on the Cape. Because the town is 3/4 National Seashore, it is the least commercialized and quietest of any of the Cape towns. The low-key nature of the place is typified by ''Downtown Truro'', which consists mainly of a post office and the well-known Jams market, where people often drop by to pick up one of their amazing sandwiches. The town beaches on the ocean side, including Long Nook, Ballston, and Coast Guard beaches, are located at the base of the highest dunes on the Cape and are, in my view, the most beautiful beaches I've ever seen (and I have traveled a lot). Truro is home to Truro Vineyards, where one can buy locally produced wine, participate in wine tastings, or just sit on the lawn and enjoy food and wine from the food trucks. A local fish market (Cape Tip Seafoods) and local family farm (Hillside) are right up the road from the cottages.

While relatively quiet itself, Truro is 6 miles south of the very lively Provincetown and 6 miles north of the town of Wellfleet, which is a typical old Cape town frequented by artists etc.
