Description

Description

Charming, gleaming two story fisherman's cottage with 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, white-washed beamed ceiling, a sun-drenched patio off the kitchen, and, on the second floor, a classy living room with a fireplace and deck looking out over Cape Cod Bay.

I designed and built the fisherman's cottage 25 years ago, using antique fixtures and doors, to give the house warm and a sense of the architectural history of New England. In particular, the exposed beams and simple screened farmer's porch are typical of rural New England.

For privacy, one bedroom and bath are upstairs while the other bedroom and bath are down.

The kitchen is newly renovated and has a big round butcher block dining table with seating for 6 or so. You may also choose to eat outside on the patio using the wrought iron dining set, or on the lawn, overlooking all of Cape Cod Bay and the outermost ''arm'' of the Cape.

The house has a yard that extends right up the edge of the bluff, where you looking down to the sandy beach below and out across all of Cape Cod Bay and the entire ''arm'' of the Cape.

This house shares our acre of bluff with our other cottage - a low-slung antique Sears ''kit house,'' assembled here in 1902. The two story new home is much taller and from the living room deck one looks out over the roof of the old cottage to see Bay at sunset.

You are welcome to use the beach shed at the bottom of the beach stairs to store your beach chairs, umbrellas, floats and kids toys for the week -- no need to shlep the up and down the stairs each day.

With a little luck, you will spot whales out in the Bay from the living room or the yard and patio.

An amazing week in an unforgettable place

My family and I spent a week in August at Jil's incredible home in North Truro. I spent my childhood on the Cape and have vacationed there many times as an adult. I thought I knew it well. But the bay side of North Truro was unlike any of my past experiences. I was used to the crowded beaches and traffic jams that are frequent in the upper Cape towns.

It's hard to believe that North Truro still exists! Miles of wide, unspoiled beach – often completely empty. At no time during our stay were there other beachgoers within 50 yards! The area is beautiful, with a spectacular mix of old and newer homes built high atop a cliff facing Cape Cod Bay. The tide is always calm and the sunsets are spectacular. A limited number of public access points creates the feeling of a secluded seaside resort.

Jil's home is exactly what you'd expect of a traditional Cape Cod cottage. It's comfortable and homey, but with all the modern conveniences and some of the best views on the Cape. From the upper level you can see the curve of the Cape all the way to Provincetown. We enjoyed our daily walks to the Salty Market for coffee and supplies and dinners at the nearby restaurants. And Provincetown, with all its activity, restaurants, and nightlife is just a short drive away. North Truro is perfect for busy families looking to reconnect in a quiet setting that offers all the best of Cape Cod. Jil is a gracious host who supplied us with all the information needed to make the most of our week. Her local knowledge and suggestions for places to visit and things to do provided just the right balance of relaxation and family fun.

We're excited to return and feel there's no place left on the Cape that equals North Truro and this home.

As a landscape painter, I fell in love with this spot 35 years ago. I love sharing our place with other families; in fact, I have watched babies grow up to college students who are still spending a week of their summer vacation here in our slice of paradise.

What is special about this property?
The sunset view across the water, our private beach, and walking for miles in either direction on the sand -- South to the mouth of the Pamet River, north to Provincetown, if you get ambitious!

We are on the Bay side, where the water is always warmer by far than in the open Atlantic, AND there is no under-tow so it's safer for long distance swimming or for your little ones learning to swim.

Perfect spot for windsurfing.

Also, there is so much beach that it is actually possible to be alone on the beach for hours, even in August!

Perfect place to breath, relax, let the ocean breeze blow away your troubles for a while, enjoy your children before they are all grown up.

What is special about your town?
The natural beauty of the Cape Cod National Seashore, which makes all of the Atlantic Ocean side of Truro. Untouched dunes. Stunning.
