Description

Description

This comfortably furnished, much-loved family cottage is located on a secluded, wooded lot in a quiet, residential neighborhood. Built 56 years ago as the summer cottage of the late Robert M. McClung, naturalist, author and illustrator, we feel happy and honored to continue the McClung tradition of sharing our cottage with you. We aim to retain the rustic ''Old Cape Cod'' feel but have added some modern amenities, too.

The cottage is within an easy 5 minute walk of Town Cove and the Nauset Marsh waterways. From there you can see the Atlantic Ocean and inland side of the Nauset Beach spit. At Snowshore Landing you can launch your kayak, canoe, or other small boat to explore the salt marshes or motor over to the spit at the end of Nauset Beach for the day. Your kids can have fun walking, netting, and beach combing along the fascinating shoreline or on the Cape Cod Bay at Skaket Beach. There are also quiet roads for bike-riding or the Cape Cod rail trail that you can pick up in the center of Orleans. There's a choice of restaurants and stores in this well located Cape Cod town.

In our private yard, adjacent to the deck, you can play croquet or bocce ball, throw a Frisbee, or relax in the hammock while listening to the distant ocean waves. There's an outdoor shower to rinse off sand after a swim in one of the many area beaches or freshwater ponds and a grill to cook up some surf and turf. Indoors there are games, puzzles, a small TV, WiFi access, books for all ages (including a number of them by Robert M. McClung) and a simple ping pong table in the basement as well as a washer and dryer. There's also an old upright piano in the living area if you like to bang out some tunes.

Downstairs there are two bedrooms, one with a king sized bed and one with a double bed and a full bath including tub and shower as well as the open living room, kitchen and dining area. Upstairs are two bedrooms, one with a king sized bed, one with 3 twins, and a bath with stall shower. A beach umbrella, beach chairs, and other beach supplies are available in the basement.

For a cool summer or fall night, you can enjoy a cozy fire in the ample fireplace.
Come and enjoy!

    Great Rental Close to Beach!

My family and I stayed here last Summer for a week and it was great. The house is charming and very well cared for. There's a nice backyard for kids to play safely, and a great deck for BBQs and relaxing outdoors. Its a beautiful area to take a nice walk outside, and a super short drive to multiple beaches. Highly recommend!

    We love this cabin!!!

We love the cozy welcoming atmosphere of this 4-bedroom Orleans home and can't wait to go back again! It's a well-maintained cottage where you can put your feet up and relax. Our whole family is in love with it. Very private setting, with a large deck for BBQs. Close to Nauset Beach, and just a quick walk to Priscilla's Landing to swim or launch a kayak. The large yard is perfect for bocce or swinging in the hammock, and on rainy days, the fireplace is a great place to gather. There's even a piano! This is a place where we feel totally relaxed, and we all can't wait to go back again. It's wonderful! show more show less

    A lovely family cottage

I've stayed at this family cottage on beautiful Cape Cod many times and I love it! It's totally private, with a fantastic outdoor shower, a great back patio for meals, a hammock and yard for games. There's lots of rooms for family groups or groups of friends and a cozy living room and dining area. It's extremely well kept and cared for, and is located about five minutes from some of my absolute favourite beaches at the Cape - Skaket Beach and Nauset Beach. Plus, Hot Chocolate Sparrow (which has the most decadent selection of treats, drinks and more) is just down the road in quaint Orleans. show more show less

    Quant quiet cozy cottage

This cozy cottage is tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the Cape and yet has easy access to beaches (especially the unique and walkable Nauset Beach). There is a great outdoor shower to enjoy and a large deck with a grill off the dining room. The upstairs bedrooms are roomy and light. It is a perfect place to come and unwind after a day at the beaches or being out and about (you can quickly get to downtown Orleans, Chatham, Eastham, or travel further to Wellfleet, Truro or Provincetown for the day). There are nearby trails, and water access, to be nearby or in the inlets and explore. We have greatly enjoyed coming to this cottage for the last 5 years and look forward to coming back each summer. show more show less

    Perfect family vacation

We stayed at this cottage for a week with two adults, a four year old and a nine year old. And two more adults joined us mid week for a portion of the stay. It was a perfect place with family. Short drive to the public beaches, but my kids liked the walk to the small local cove beach even more. The house was clean. The property is fairly secluded and quiet. My 9 year old found a set of books he wanted to read on the bookshelf in the kids room and tucked himself away with them whenever we weren't out doing stuff. My 4 yo enjoyed the old toys, and we all had fun playing board games. show more show less

A wonderful vacation getaway 4 years in a row!

This is a perfect cottage to get away from our fast paced world and the technical interruptions of today's society. We have rented this adorable, spotless, comfortable and thoughtfully decorated cottage for the past four years. It is as if you are taken back to a simpler, less complicated time, where you can relax and not worry about crowds or anyone invading your peace and quiet. The home is set back on a private lot and it is surrounded by beautiful, mature plantings. You are able to hear the ocean at night, the setting is comforting and it is our favorite place to unwind every summer.

This past July we had the best time, it seems to get better every year, as we spend more time at the town landing, which is a five minute walk from the cottage. At the landing we take off with our paddle boards and inflatable dingy to enjoy full days of seal watching, swimming and walks on the spit of beach that is between the bay and Outer Cape ocean. It is an amazing experience to be surrounded by so much scenic beauty. We highly recommend staying at the cottage and creating your own unforgettable summer fun family memories!

    McClung cottage

We have rented many houses over the years on the Cape for summer vacations and have never enjoyed any as much as we enjoyed the McClung cottage this summer !!! The photos do not do it justice. It is located down a long driveway tucked into the woods, which offers a lot of privacy. We did not bother anyone and no one bothered us!

We loved the yard, hammock, gas grill and deck. We also appreciated the close proximity to Nauset Beach (and the drop off parking lot) and Skaket beach (great sunsets). We spent a lot of time biking and found Orleans a great place to get an ice cream afterwards. The cottage is well maintained and supplied. There is a ping pong table in the basement, comfortable couches and a fireplace. The knotty pine gives it a homey feel. Our only complaint was that we had to leave!!! We will be back next year. This cottage is a well kept secret ! show more show less

Adorable, cozy "3 Bears" cottage! Close & convenient to Nauset beach & town, yet tucked back into its own little enclave amidst beautiful neighborhood. Stayed here in August with my husband and three boys, ages 12, 16 & 20 yrs old. The boys loved the backyard with hammock, ping pong in basement and coming home at night to the star -filled skies! The house was extremely clean, neat & organized and thoughtfully equipped with all. Especially loved the 2 big bedrooms upstairs w high ceilings and fans, the antique phone, piano & all the many wonderful books. Also loved having coffee on deck in a.m. House had wi-fi and everything was so well-kept! Would definitely stay here again! show more show less

Emily and Bill McClung have managed this cottage for the past 10 years after taking over for Bill's parents, who were the original owners. They love vacationing here every year with their adult children and friends, always leaving sadly with more to do and see. This year they look forward to sharing it with two new step-granddaughters and a baby granddaughter. Friends and guest from near and far have stayed here. It's a real Cape Cod feel with many happy memories and good times!

What is special about this property?
The privacy, location on the Cape, simplicity and old time feeling. The many water options - ocean, bay, ponds, lakes, and cove. Once there, you need not see anyone else except the occasional beach comber. It's a little spot of heaven!

What is special about your town?
Easy access to all parts of the Cape, especially Eastham, Wellfleet, Truro and Provincetown as well as many ocean or bayside beaches and ponds. Stores and restaurants in Orleans.
