Description

THE SETTING:

This is a beautiful property and home to relax close to nature and quietly enjoy time with friends and family in a peaceful setting. Thank you for reading on!

The property is nestled in a wooded area of Orleans on private dirt roads within a peaceful neighborhood association. It is ringed by tall trees and attracts many birds and other wildlife. The house is located a short walking distance to several coastal access points (both salt and fresh water). You will escape the hectic pace of life, while still remaining close to all the conveniences you might need. This is a great place for nature lovers, friends, families, and groups to enjoy and relax.

The property has two units attached by adjoining decks - both of modern design. The main house (house for rent) was built in the early 70's by my parents. It is located admist 3 acres of forest surrounding on all sides for privacy. There is an additional smaller unit on the property (occupied by me). When I am not on the property the smaller unit will either be closed and inaccessible or you may inquire about adding it to your rental for additional space and privacy for your group.

The main house has 3 formal bedrooms: the 1rst & 2nd bedrooms have a king and queen size beds, the 3rd bedroom has two twin beds. There is a sitting room/TV room adjacent to the 1rst bdrm that has a large sofa. The sitting room/TV room can double as a bedroom for a 7th occupant (additional $50/nightly fee) with more limited privacy than the other formal bedrooms.

There is a large living room with a loft space (the loft is not be accessible to guests due to danger/liability issues), 2 full baths, a fully equipped kitchen, dining room, and the house is surrounded on all sides with outdoor walkways and spacious decks. Most rooms have high cathedral ceilings and every room has sliding glass doors for ample cross ventilation, optimal air flow, and light in the house.

Water access:
Within a short 5 min walk there are several salt water landings which are located on various inlets of Pleasant Bay. The landings welcome residents and guests of the neighborhood association and are available for one to store a canoe or kayak during your stay.
We are within walking distance of two gorgeous lakes, Crystal Lake (0.5 mi.) and Pilgrim Lake (0.25 mi.), both of which have cozy sand beaches within conservation areas.

Beach access:
Spectacular Nauset Beach (3 mi.), one of the best beaches in New England, is 8 minutes away. Skaket Beach (3 mi.), on the calmer and warmer waters of Cape Cod Bay, faces due West and is the stage for glorious sunsets.

Shopping and Center of town access:
We are conveniently located 2.5 miles from the Orleans town center and eight miles from Chatham's town center.

Other things to note:
- There is an additional $200 fee for all authorized pets.
- There is no AC. Fans for all rooms are provided and the house design lends itself to ample cross ventilation.
- I do not provide linens/towels. You may bring your own or rent from Cape Cod linen rentals
- I provide 4 beach chairs and a boogie boards for guests to use.
- There is a gas grill, a hammock, and lots of books and puzzles/games for family fun. Please be gentle with the games, many are vintage from the 70s and 80s.

We arrived at Elizabeth's place just in time to experience the heavy winds and rain of hurricane Irma. Elizabeth checked in with us, often, to make sure that we were ok and that the house was secure during this extreme weather. We enjoyed chatting with her and she is a exceptional host, the best we have experienced. A great communicator Elizabeth was readily available to answer any questions we had. This house is set up for family living with comfortable spaces, good storage, filled with natural light from large sliding doors and sky lights. We cooked most of our meals at home, found the kitchen very user friendly and often used the outdoor grill. Dinner on one of the many deck spaces was appreciated. It is surprising how isolated the property feels, and then to realize that you are so close to town, beach, restaurants. From the house it is a easy walk to the lake for our 5 year old who had a fantastic time swimming and playing in the sand. This house is filled with vintage books, games and well loved comfortable furniture. If you are looking for a sleek, modern home, this place is not for you. We enjoyed staying at Elizabeth's place and will be looking for this listing the next time we plan a Cape vacation! show more show less

We had a wonderful experience at Elizabeth's place. We were a total of 5 adults and the layout of the house provided both common spaces for us to eat and relax together as well as room for us to be separate. We loved having two decks with plenty of seating. There is a nice gas grill and the outdoor shower is perfect after the beach. The house is tucked away in the woods and quiet. The location was great for us and we rode bikes to the beach and the nearby lakes. Having Elizabeth staying on the property worked out well for us—we had enough privacy and it was nice to have her close by if we had any questions. The description is very accurate. The design and decor of the home make it the perfect place to unwind and take in the beauty of the area. show more show less

Description in the listing is accurate, but it is hard for words or pictures to capture how delightful the space and surroundings are.

Quiet house in a wooded area away from the beaten path. The layout is something to be experienced. Elizabeth was a great hostess and quick and precise with her communications. Can't wait to return!

A serene, scenic, peaceful setting nestled in nature, you can walk/ run/ bike to the water or nearby lakes. For two of us the space felt like a retreat in unique Orleans. The house has beautiful natural light, spacious and we chose it for the mid- century modern architecture. Very private, clean with practical amenities all on one floor, surrounded by a deck where you can step out and enjoy the fresh air, morning coffee , what you would expect of the Cape. Our host left great instructions for the area and personally helped us choose some of our outings. Elizabeth is kind and knowledgeable of the area, communications were very clear. We plan to return! show more show less

Elizabeth's house is a really special piece of architecture, and we had a wonderful week there. the neighborhood is lovely, with short walks to the lake and bay, and the house itself is very connected to the cape cod landscape. Everything was there that we needed and it was a truly relaxing week.

The house is very special (a true architectural gem) and in a perfect location - just a few min to all beaches and lakes. Elizabeth is an incredible host. We loved our stay and we can't wait to return soon.

Hello! I moved last summer 2022 from Oakland CA to Vershirre VT. I am a an Educational Therapist, Spanish teacher, and Learning Support Specialist. I work at a residential semester school on a farm in VT and support students in Language Arts and Executive Function in my private practice to leverage their own strengths in their learning process.

I enjoy surfing, dancing, swimming, biking, and I am generally a warm and joyful person. I grew up in Orleans in the house for rent and know the local community and area well. I appreciate welcoming and sharing all the area has to offer with guests. My entire family resides in coastal MA.

    During your stay:
I live in the guest house at the back of the property. I minimize my interaction with guests beyond getting you settled and oriented. I have my own private entrance and make myself scarce during your stay. I have a well trained large dog who I keep contained to my area of the property.

What is special about this property?
My house, designed and built by my parents in the late 60's is nestled in one of the last wooded areas of Orleans. Mayflower Point is a network of dirt roads surrounded by water on all sides. There are several coastal access points within a few min walking distance from the property - both fresh water lake and salt water rivers and bays. The house is private and has ample indoor and outdoor space for families to enjoy time to come together and to spread out and enjoy alone time.
