Legend has it that ''jingle shells'', which are common on Martha's Vineyard beaches, are really the scales of a friendly sea serpent named Vanessa, who has often been sighted from the waterview deck of this home. Hence, the name of the ''Jingle Shell Cottage''.

Because we will be renting for 2 weeks or less this year, we are not subject to the Massachusetts short-term rental tax! This means we are not required to collect an additional 11.7% from our guests.

We may have transferable ferry reservations for certain weeks of the summer. If we are successful in obtaining them, they would be available by sending a check to cover our costs of reserving them.

The property is nestled among cedar trees on the edge of a saltwater pond and within a walking distance down a sandy lane of less than 1000 feet to one of the Oak Bluffs town swimming beaches known as Inkwell Beach. Plenty of outdoor seating on the deck. The cottage is very convenient to town, yet in a peaceful location on a sandy lane.

The home has 3 bedrooms and sleeps 5 (max 3 adults) or alternatively 4 adults, with a queen in the master bedroom, 2 twins in a second upstairs bedroom, and another twin in the downstairs bedroom. Window air conditioners in all of the bedrooms and a window air conditioner & ceiling fan in the living room. Master bedroom features two skylights and a view of pond and sea. There's a bathroom with shower downstairs, a pocket half bath with skylight upstairs, and a large, private, lovely enclosed outdoor shower with lighting and spa-like decorations. Laundry room with stack-up washer and dryer. There's a gas barbecue grill in the side yard and a flat screen cable TV in the living room plus flat screen TV's in two of the bedrooms (with plenty of cable channels), as well as WIFI high speed internet. The open concept living and dining areas and kitchen features a wall paneled with siding from a 150 year old barn plus a sliding glass door leading to the deck. Although the house is small, there's a 10 foot by 30 foot deck with a fabulous water view, with plenty of seating, some under a roofed section, some in the sun. There's a view of the pond and Nantucket Sound from the master bedroom as well as from the deck and living and dining area.

There's a small dock down a narrow grassy path to the edge of the shallow pond. The driveway has plenty of room for one car, plus another car on the side of the road. read more show less
