Walk to Beach and Town from Charming, Spacious House

We have been visiting Martha's Vineyard for many years and the lovely home we rented last year on Katama Avenue was far and away the best experience we have ever had! As a home, it is perfect. Plenty of space for a family of any size, including a spacious yard that was a great play area for our grandkids. On the inside, the word "charming" does not do this home justice. It is more than that. Tastefully decorated with two beautiful decks (one a wraparound) makes the home of Alex and Wendy the perfect place to stay on the Vineyard. Yes, we will return this year and hopefully for many years to come!

What also makes this home a true five star experience is the location. The beaches of Oak Bluffs, the Tabernacle, Oak Bluffs harbor, and the ferries are a short walk away. And despite its proximity to the hustle and bustle of Oak Bluffs, traffic in the neighborhood is amazingly quiet! Our grandkids safely and happily rode their bikes and played in the street.

Close to Farm Pond and Vineyard Sound, this home also offers beautiful water views. Mornings bring a beautiful natural stillness that is interrupted only by the chorus of birds and other wildlife.

In short, staying at the home of Wendy and Alex was an experience we will never forget. Indeed my wife and I, and our kids and grandkids look forward to returning this year! show more show less

Our family has had the pleasure of staying here for 1-2 weeks the past several summers. The house is well-equipped, clean and airy. It's an easy walk from town (restaurants, shops, beach, marina, etc.) Perfect location for children and short walk from large playground, basketball, tennis, etc. The porch and yard are great (our family LOVES the outdoor shower & hammock). The owners are prompt & lovely. The neighbors are very friendly. There's plenty of sleeping arrangements (they even had a pack n play). My cousin and I bring our families - there's 9 of us - including 5 kids. We always feel right at home here! show more show less

Our family absolutely loved our week in Oak Bluffs in this charming and spacious home. The location is perfect -- a short walk into town but on a quiet street where our kids could ride their bikes all over the neighborhood. We ate many meals on the shady porch and loved the outdoor shower for cleaning up after a day at the beach. The deck off the master bedroom was another peaceful retreat. The house is well stocked with kitchen items, and Wendy & Alex make it very easy to understand where everything is located. This was truly a home away from home.

We loved everything about this home. From the shady peaceful porch with a view of the water to the backyard hammock, the outdoor shower, well-stocked kitchen, and large comfortable master with it's own deck. The location is peaceful but at the same time within walking distance to town, the park and the beach. There's even a nature trail around the corner. Wendy and Alex are responsive and accommodating. Their home is set up in a way that makes it easy to understand how to use everything. The photos on the website are a good representation of the actual house. We would love to stay in this home again and would recommend it to others.

Lovely and comfortable house, yard, front porch, neighborhood! Very large master bedroom with walkout patio and stairs to outdoor shower. We enjoyed being able to walk to town and to the beach. It was the perfect location for our family vacation. Highly recommend!

I have stayed in this house a couple of times because it is a perfect place to be alone or to escape to with friends and family. Regardless of the season, the Vineyard is a natural wonderland. When the weather is great you can find a different hike or a beach every day; when it rains you can stay by the fire and read for hours. The pond at the end of the street is the perfect place to stroll to with your morning coffee. The neighborhood is quiet and the house is absolutely comfortable and filled with light and books and anything you might need. I have been here with a car and without; if you find you do need anything, 'downtown' is a short walk away. When the Oak Bluffs ferry is running you can walk to the house from the boat. Otherwise, the island shuttle buses and taxis can get you there. The photos do show the property as it truly is. The owners are are relaxed and generous. In short, everything you need is there in a beautiful setting. Other highlights include the house's history, the birds in the backyard and the upstairs bathtub.

We have rented, no lived in this wonderful house for the last few Julys. The owners Wendy and Alex are wonderful and have made us feel like part of the family. I believe we have single handedly increased visitors to the Vineyard after our family and friends have visited us here at this wonderful home. The side yard has been the location for many family performances, birthday parties and soccer matches. Our dog Loo (pictured in the photos) know her way from the front porch to the pond for her daily swims. Because the Palmers actually LIVE in the house during the year, the home has excellent cooking pots, skillets and knives. Anyone who is a cook will truly appreciate this. Sadly the number of family visitors has increased so we must move on to a larger home, however, this house will ALWAYS remain to us our Summer Vineyard Home!

We visited MV for a girls weekend to celebrate my 40th birthday. Wendy and Alex went out of their way to make sure every need was met for us, including extra bicycles so we could explore the island. We had perfect weather and spent our first morning kayaking on the pond at the end of the street; talk about serenity. Half of our party spent the day on bikes, the other half explored the shops only a 10 minute walk away. The house has so much character and charm; I was actually a bit excited for the rain on Sunday to stay in the house and explore the hundreds of books. I must say, the outside shower is a must!!! The house is WONDERFUL and made our weekend perfect. I plan to bring my family back (or maybe another girls weekend!!) and we will definitely contact Wendy and Alex about renting again. We had the most amazing stay in this house in mid September for 10 days. We were travelling from Ireland with an 18 month old toddler and wanted a spacious house within a short walk to both the beach and circuit ave and with outdoor garden space. We absolutely fell in love with this house! It has such old world vineyard charm with the large deck, hammock, really amazing outdoor shower, wind chimes, fairy lights…just beautiful. It was such a benefit being able to have use of the owners things such as a travel cot, stair gate, beach toys, parasols, coolers and especially the kayaks which we used for some wonderfully peaceful ventures on the lagoon just a stone’s throw away. The property is so central but you feel like you’re very secluded. In the morning we would wake up to the singing of the birds and see squirrels running across the telegraph wires! The master bedroom is just beautiful, the kitchen very well equipped. There is also a nicely rustic edge to the place – it is not so pristine that you are constantly afraid of damage/stains etc (especially with a toddler), it has an old feel and is ‘lived in’, which makes it very comfortable and relaxing to holiday in. The owners were really pleasant to deal with too. We would recommend it in a heartbeat and really hope to return sometime, it made for a perfect Vineyard holiday with lots of great memories.

It was clean, decorated very nicely and had a lovely sunny feel to the place. The yard was nice, with perennial beds blooming and there was a nice patio area out back by the grill where we enjoyed many meals. The porch was a favorite spot also, we played card games and read the newspaper each day out there. Our kids loved the pool table, we adults and kids, loved browsing the extensive selection of books throughout the house. All in all, we would love to come back to this house and we would not hesitate to recommend this house to our family or friends. We also had the opportunity to meet the homeowners and they were very personable and friendly." show more show less
