Description

Pets considered. This pretty, shabby-chic, sunny cottage and barn are set on a private, two acre piece of land down a quiet country road and just .75 of a mile from Ridgevale Beach. It provides a great set up for two families vacationing together. Enjoy the serenity of the undisturbed woods, the open floor plan with peaceful views of the back yard and abutting 3-acres of Chatham conservation woodlands. Or the wrap-around deck for eating outdoors watching hawks and myriad other wildlife, and the pretty rose garden.

There is an open kitchen, washer/dryer, and high speed Internet. Renovations include a second story sleeping loft, perfect for kids, cathedral ceilings in the living room, lots of sunny windows, and refinished wood floors. There is also a brand new, six person hot tub on the deck, particularly great for fall or winter stays (the hot tub will not be available in summer 2016). The grounds are naturally landscaped, not manicured, no chemicals used.

The post and beam Barn sleeps three in one bedroom with a half bathroom, living/dining room, small kitchen, outdoor shower, and hot tub. (Further details below)

The House: If you want privacy, romance, fun for kids, a relaxed and natural atmosphere, enjoy camping and being outdoors and nature and the woods, this is the perfect house. If you want a hotel experience, air conditioning, and manicured grounds, this is not the house for you. This is a Cape Cod cottage (built in 1952) and an unfinished, rustic barn. It is a casual and relaxed place. We cater to families with kids.

There is a great tree swing for kids, a little tree house perch for kids and adults (we sit there and drink tea), a truly romantic claw-foot bathtub in the barn bedroom, complete with scented candles and a terrycloth bathrobe. The seating area on the deck with strings of lights in the trees makes the outdoors magical. The loft is well-loved by kids of all ages and provides a wonderful place to hang out, play games, put on plays for the adults downstairs in the living room, write on the chalk-board ceiling, have privacy, make mischief. The kitchen is well stocked, an there are plenty of games provided including croquet and badminton.

The Barn: The barn has a large (18 x 24) second floor bedroom which can sleep parents and kid (there is a queen size bed as well as a single.) The barn consists of a bathroom (curtained off, there are no walls), a clawfoot tub, outdoor shower, small kitchen with no stove, but coffeemaker, microwave, toaster oven, fridge, and a Weber gas grill on the back deck. The barn is rustic. Some people love barns. If you don't, this is not the right property for you.

This house rents Sunday to Sunday to escape the Saturday on and off Cape traffic.

The property is located south of Rt 28 and provides access to 40 miles of Cape Cod Rail Trail bike path from just across the way, so you don't need to drive there with bikes. You can bike or walk to the beach in under fifteen minutes.

Everyone tells us that they could spend their entire vacation without ever leaving the truly private property. Please email for more photos.

There is easy access to the bike path, so you don't need to drive there with bikes. You can bike or walk to the beach in under fifteen minutes.

Monomoy National Wildlife Refuge: Also in Chatham (from Fodors)
the Refuge is a quiet, peaceful place of sand and beach grass, tidal flats, dunes, marshes, freshwater ponds, thickets of bayberry and beach plum. Several groups conduct tours of the islands, including the Massachusetts Audubon Society, many with a focus on bird-watching. In season, the Rip Ryder will take you over from Chatham for bird- or seal-watching tours. Private charters are also available. Another excellent option is Monomoy Island Excursions, which offers seal and seabird tours and boat trips out around Monomoy Island, leaving from Saquatucket Harbor on a 43-foot high-speed catamaran. Outermost Adventures also provides water taxi services out to Monomoy Island and offers fishing, birding, and seal-watching cruises.

Very private and comfortable!
5 of 5
Though we've stayed on the Cape many times, this was our first stay in Chatham and we loved it! Susan was more than accommodating, giving us great activity and restaurant suggestions and going out of her way to make sure we had everything we needed during our stay. Our favorite part of the property was the outdoors and yard. The deck was perfect for alfresco meals and we loved the outdoor shower, the firepit, and the hot tub. (As kids as heart, we even jumped a bit on the trampoline and used it as a star-gazing platform!) We loved how private the property was and the fact that we could bring our dog along just capped the week for us--we'll definitely be back!

Quaint seclusion, with beach access
5 of 5
We planned a 2-night stay for Columbus Day weekend as a sort of whim, with our only knowledge of Chatham from a few day-trips years ago. This little house and barn are amazing -- wish we had had more time and more people, because there was more than we could take in. My wife loved the very comfortable furnishings, my 13-yr old son spent hours doing flips on the trampoline, and my mother sat and read on the sunny porch. All the facilities (including hot tub under the stars, fire pit, and out-door shower) are very well-maintained, and Sue recommended great restaurants. And of course quick access to the beach did the rest. It's the kind of unique place that stays in your consciousness, long after the adventure is over. We hope to go back . . . often ! show more show less

Absolutely Wonderful!
5 of 5
I didn't even know I liked the cape until we stayed here! Now I understand how wonderful it is and can't wait to come back. We were so happy to find this bright and airy cottage. Its tucked away in the woods with no houses around, yet its a short walk on a grassy path to the beach and walkable to a local ice cream shop. Open kitchen and living room which were both bright, fresh and clean and extremely comfortable to relax in. The living room has an incredibly high ceiling with tons of windows overlooking the big yard. There's even a roomy loft for the kids to sleep in-- they can be part of the action, yet have their own cool space. We brought our laptop and could check email using the wireless internet connection.

It was fun to grill out on the big deck- you can even walk to a local restaurant with delicious fresh lobster rolls and clams. I especially loved the quiet walk to the beach at night. Super nice owners, great memories-- we'll be back next summer!

I visited for a long weekend with kids and sisters and we all agreed this space was just superb. The decor is so unique and interesting and we wanted to stay longer. The hot tub was used by all, the fire pit was delightful, and we all played cards in the main room before sleeping in the comfy beds. The barn was such a fun and private place for us to enjoy. We will be back and recommend this to anyone looking for a fun adventure.

Great stay at this house !
5 of 5
We enjoyed a week last Thanksgiving in this house, we had the best stay ever. The owners were very nice, responsive, available and helpful to help us to plan our visit and make our stay a big hit.

We just loved the place, big enough with the barn to fit two families (4 adults and 5 kids from 6 to 15 years old), very cozy and comfortable, but most of all with a lot of charm... We felt at home sitting around the fireplace, reading, chatting, playing board games, cooking (the kitchen is very well equipped) and enjoying an exceptional Thanksgiving dinner with lobster rather than turkey. The kids played a lot outside climbing trees and building tree houses... inside, the loft was the perfect place for them to sleep and play together.

We did a lot of hiking all around the upper Cape, the location in Chatham was perfect to reach the different hiking and touristic sites within half an hour. The weather was gorgeous and we were lucky enough to sight seals and sea birds...

We will definitely come back ... Thanks a lot Suzane and to your family

Great, secluded property!
5 of 5
We had a 5-night stay over the Columbus Day weekend, and absolutely loved the place! We are only two adults plus a large dog, so the size was more than we needed, but the private yard was just wonderful for us. While there are four bedrooms, one is in the barn and one is a loft, so the main living area was a comfortable size for the three of us. We enjoyed the large sunny deck on the main house, the firepit in the yard, and the ping-pong table in the barn. Didn't try the hot tub (behind the barn), but it looks to be well maintained.

We have visited the cape at least once a year since 1999, staying in a variety of inns and rental homes, and this one stands out as our favorite so far... hope to come back next year!

Wonderful place

We just returned from a week at Susan's cottage. The pictures are representative. It was spotlessly clean and there were fresh flowers in every room when we arrived. Susan was helpful and a pleasure to deal with. The house is open and airy. The yard is very private. The decor is light and refreshing. My four daughters really enjoyed the loft. We all enjoyed the large deck for breakfast and dinner. There is a great bakery a short walk from the house where we went every morning for the Chatham muffin and cinnamon rolls (they come out of the oven hot at 8 am). There are 2 beaches less than a mile away. The bike path is easy to access and nice ride into town. This is a great place, private, clean, open and airy, and easy location. I highly recommend it.

We love sharing our home with people so they can enjoy the Cape as much as we do. We hope to help people make great vacation memories with friends and family.

What is special about this property?
We love the location of this house as you can walk to Hardings, Barn Hill landing for kayaking and paddleboarding and just lovely views with your morning coffee. Kids can also walk to Dunkin Donuts or Larry's RX for breakfast and then walk or bike to the beach on a safe street with sidewalks. We love the sleeping porch and encourage everyone to sleep outside at least once under the stars. You will be hooked.

What is special about your town?
Chatham is beautiful and has wonderful beaches and a lovely town center.
