Family-Friendly Cape Retreat with Kayak-Steps to Long Pond

We so enjoyed our stay at Bruce's rental in Harwich. We stay on the Cape every August for a week and this has been our favorite rental so far. Every room is so comfortable and spacious, full of light and great breezes with the windows and sliders open. The whole house is so thoughtfully outfitted and it was a huge relief to be staying in a place that had everything we needed-- plenty of towels, hand towels, hand soaps, tons of games and books, light bulbs... basic stuff, but it made a huge difference. The kitchen also has pretty much everything you need to cook up a good meal and the beautiful commercial oven is a dream to work on. I would only suggest adding one larger saute or frying pan with higher sides to the stock of cookware to really round out the collection. We were also impressed by the supply of cooking basics like oil, salt, pepper, and tons of other herbs and spices. Access to Long Pond was another awesome feature and we throroughly enjoyed use of the kayaks. There were plenty of life jackets in all sizes, water toys/floats, and beach chairs to use. There has clearly been a lot of attention to detail paid to making guests comfortable and stress-free in this home and we felt very well taken care of. Communication with Bruce was always friendly and prompt.... I can't complain about a single thing and my family and I really can't wait to come back. show more show less

We had a lovely time during our stay and the owner was great with communication. The house is perfect for groups with children. There are safety gates throughout the home and plenty of toys and games to keep everyone entertained. The kids loved feeding the fish and the turtle every day. It is also very close to Long Pond. Every morning we got a chance to, we walked down to Long Pond and kayaked, one of our mornings we saw an eagle up close!

The location also can't be beat, it is close to beautiful Nickerson State Park and close enough to beaches in Dennis. My kids have asked us to promise we will return to Harwich and stay in here again. show more show less

Our family of six includes two teens and two toddlers. This lovely, charming, comfy house was just perfect for us in so many ways! It is definitely geared toward kids/families - we were so appreciative of the safety gates on the deck and at stairway levels, the kid games, toys and books, as well as the puzzles and family games (Boggle, etc.) to engage the older kids. The littles *loved* the koi pond, and reminded us daily to feed the fish. The terraced backyard was wonderful for using the lawn games provided for our use. Such a short walk to Long Pond and the sweet little shallow "beach" for the kids to splash around while their older brothers kayaked.

The house location is cool. Tucked back in the woods, but so close to town and all the beaches and offerings there (we especially enjoyed Sundae School and the cranberry bog farm tour). Not too far from the Cape Cod Nat'l Seashore beaches, either. A bonus for us - the day we went to Marconi Beach was the anniversary of the Nat'l Park Service, so there was no admission fee. The kitchen was well equipped, and there is an awesome Vulcan commercial stove that was a pleasure to cook on. I did have to go online to find directions for how to light the oven pilot light, but the house has wi-fi, so that wasn't a problem. Gas grill, table and comfortable chairs on the deck... It felt like home! We would definitely rent this house again! show more show less

This is a great property for a family vacation. We have two, a 19-year-old and a 17-year-old, so the upstairs common room was a great place for them to hang out with their friends and get some space when needed. My wife and I really enjoyed the back porch. Really quiet and private with a great view of the wooded area in back. Also great for star-gazing at night! The kitchen was well provisioned. It's got a great big old Vulcan stove with a broiler but we never did figure out how to work the oven. Not a big problem as we grilled most meals and there is a toaster-oven but don't plan on baking any cookies. Living room was very comfortable with NO TV which we really liked. The kids watched upstairs but we really liked not having a TV in the main common areas. Master bath and bedroom were well updated and very comfortable. We come to the Cape for the beaches and this a great location to hit them all. Cape Cod National Seashore (Marconi and Cahoon are favorites) are half hour but plan on getting there before 11 to get parking. Chatham Light Beach and Ridgevale (where you can rent a hobie and sail to Monomoy) are even closer. The Cape Cod Bike trail is also a short ride from the house. We also enjoyed the kayak and taking a fresh water swim after a day at the beach on Long Pond, which is a short walk from the house. Bruce (owner) took care to ensure that we had what we needed prior to arriving, and there were ample instructions in the house to help you get your vacation off to a great start. show more show less

Great House, very comfortable and larger than you think. Convient location to all parts of the cape.

WE HAD A GREAT VACATION IN HARWICH. THE HOUSE WAS SPACIOUS AND COMFORTABLE. LOTS OF BOARD GAMES, LAWN GAMES AND BOOKS. IT WAS FUN USING THE KAYAK IN THE LATE AFTERNOON AND MORNINGS. WE COULD EASILY GET TO NAUSET BEACH AND SKAKET IN ORLEANS. THE HOMEOWNER WAS VERY PLEASANT AND EASY TO WORK WITH. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS VACATION HOME.

We are back from the nice vacation we have had on the Cape. Your house is amazing and really the best choice for us, so kids friendly. We had so much fun there. Thank you for everything! Your house is wonderful!
