This is a quirky farmhouse, circa ~1865. It has not been kept in the original style but does retain much of the charm of an old home. If you are seeking a shiny, modern place, this is not for you! On the other hand, if you like colors and art and vintage things, and don't need everything to be perfectly matched, you will likely be very happy here.
This is a vacation place for up to four adults, with two bedrooms. The house is not suitable for children. We will consider requests for well-behaved dogs.
We are a Sunday changeover property. We have found traffic overly challenging on Saturdays and so have decided that the alternative day works better for our visitors. Check in is 3 pm on Sunday afternoon, and check out is 9 am on Sunday. If we are ready for you earlier than 3, we will text you.
Our home includes two bedrooms and a full bath upstairs. One bedroom has a queen bed, close to the floor (below the windows- see photo) and one has a full sized bed. There are mini split air conditioning units in both rooms (and we also have a number of portable fans if you prefer the Cape's fresh air). There is a large bookcase in the upstairs hallway filled with books- please help yourself.
Downstairs you will find a living room area as well as a smaller den with a television. There is a wireless printer on our wifi network that you are free to use. You will also find cloth placemats and napkins, and a lovely old oak dining table with four oak grange hall chairs.
You will also find a small but very well-equipped kitchen containing a refrigerator/freezer, natural gas range/oven, dishwasher, large toaster oven, microwave, coffee maker, Vitamix and Nutribullet blenders, juicer and food processor. There are also many high quality pots and pans to choose from as well as a wide variety of gadgets such as wine vacuum, plane grater, Mouli grater, cherry pitter, baking dishes, etc. Good, sharp knives and an interesting and eclectic collection of dishes, glasses and flatware. A separate spigot on the sink provides purified water, for drinking or cooking. There is even a vintage ice cream maker - buy some fresh peaches or berries - it's always a fun group event! You're also welcome to help yourself to an extensive selection of spices and any dry goods you find.
Also on the first floor is a colorful half bath with a bookcase and a peek at the garden. Just outside of the big room, there is a simple but lovely patio area filled with plants where you can watch birds, chipmunks and dragonflies all day long, if that suits you. You might like to take the yoga mats (there are four) outside and do some stretching. It is very green and overgrown - we try to maintain areas of natural habitat for our local fauna. You may also view the patio area from the larger living area, if you prefer to be inside.
In the patio area, you will also find a spacious outdoor shower where you might see tiny frogs if you are lucky (tree frog or wood frog). Adjacent to that area, we've provided a (propane) barbecue grill. Inside, in the laundry closet, you'll find a vintage croquet set and some badminton gear. There are also playing cards and some board games, including Cranium and dominoes.
The house is full of art and books. We have wifi but no cable. There is, however, a smart television in the den as well as an older television with VHS and DVD players in one of the upstairs bedrooms. Plus some great movies for you to watch, if you wish. There is also a bluetooth Bose speaker on the first floor.
We provide all towels and bed linens- 100% cotton, of course. There is a pile of beach gear, including a vintage beach blanket, four beach towels, a beach tent, sunscreen, bug spray and a small cooler. There are two bicycles which you are free to use. There is a clothesline for beach towels and bathing suits, as well as anything else you wish to dry. There is also a new washer and dryer on the first floor.
We run HEPA filters in the house and use a HEPA vacuum cleaner. I am chemically sensitive so we are very cautious in our use of cleaning products. Still, with COVID, we are taking extra care. Please let us know if you have any specific sensitivities or needs.
You may have noticed that we participate in weneedavacation.com’s Green Initiative. In addition to purified water, eco-friendly cleaning products, LED lighting, bamboo t.p., recycling, etc…. both of our toilets have dual flush options to conserve water usage.
There are two parking spaces available for your use.
The property is very close to Harwich Center, including the Harwich Cultural Center, Brooks Library and Brooks Park - where you'll find Cape League baseball, concerts, \tennis, pickle ball, bocce ball, craft fairs and flea markets throughout the summer months. Our weekly (Thursday) little Farmers' Market is a short (2/10 miles) walk as is the beautiful bike path (.39 miles). You are also about one mile from beautiful Harwich Port with shops, galleries, beaches (of course!), restaurants and weekly ''musical strolls'' on Wednesday nights.
