Description

Build fantastic family memories in the private, spacious eastern wing of this historic farmhouse - built c. 1700.

The Winslow Homestead has been in our family since it was built. In 1845, two brothers divided the property and the two sides have been separate dwellings since. You will have your own driveway and will enjoy a large, private yard and historic vacation home with modern amenities. The rental sleeps eight in four bedrooms: 1 king, 2 queen, 1 w/2 twin beds. There are 1 & 1/2 bathrooms plus an enclosed outdoor shower. Enjoy your morning coffee or evening cocktail on the screened porch while you watch your kids play in the large private yard. Stretch out for a nap on the hammock strung between two shady maples. The house is located in an historic district abutting conservation land at the Herring Run and Stony Brook Mill.

One mile to Paines Creek Beach on Cape Cod Bay, 15 minutes to the Atlantic Ocean and Nauset Beach in Orleans, 15 minutes to Hyannis. Bike or drive to nearby fresh water lakes, Cape Cod Bike Trail, Punkhorn Parklands conservation area trails, Cape Cod Museum of Natural History, Brewster General Store, and excellent restaurants and antique and craft shops.

All linens (except beach towels) provided. Air conditioning, cable TV, high speed internet. Front loading HE clothes washer and dryer, screened porch, fully equipped kitchen. Hammock, beach chairs, toys, BBQ. Books, games and puzzles for rainy days. No pets, please. Sunday to Sunday rental - avoid Saturday traffic!

Classic vacation home any time of the year

I just got back from a midwinter stay at this home. The house is fully winterized, so it was warm and cozy though the weather dropped down to 10 degrees or less at night.

This is one half of a large colonial house that has been modernized over the years. The half I stayed in is independent, however, and you are not aware of the owners who occupy the other side of the house -- unless you need them for any problem that may occur.

It is within walking distance of the famous Brewster Grist Mill and Herring Run, and a short drive from the beach at Paine's Creek.

I can't wait to come back again.

Fabulous Cape house!

We have stayed in this house several times, and it's a treasure. The owners can tell you the story of the house - it's about 300 years old and has fascinating nooks and crannies to explore. They've also done a wonderful job decorating it in keeping with its age, but in ways that are functional and satisfying to modern tastes. I particularly like the quilts and high quality sheets. The kitchen is also well-outfitted for cooking, with enough plates, cups, pots, etc., to feed a small army (there are enough beds for that, too!).

The home is in a good location for exploring the area, especially frequent jaunts to Paine's Creek. The yard is beautiful and quiet, and we've gotten good mileage from the hammock and wood tables for eating outside. There's a screened-in porch for buggy or rainy days.

Can't recommend it highly enough!

One of a kind

I love staying at this house! I never seen anything like it: character, cape-ness, comfortable, wonderful yard, great beaches nearby. So many books - you can tell the owners are readers. The kitchen and dining room are perfect for eating good food with good conversations. Looking forward to my next visit!

Comfortable, Convenient and Relaxing

This house is a great place to unwind and get away from it all - without getting too far off the beaten path. It is a fun, funky and sprawling home with many interesting features like the hand-hewn, exposed beam ceiling and a beehive fireplace in the kitchen/dining area. The grounds are large and perfect for kids to run around and parents to lounge. And, while it feels really isolated, it's actually really close to the bay, Brewster village and the highway, so you can get other places quickly. show more show less

Just stayed at this property with my family for a week, and it was SO relaxing! Beautiful old home with comfy beds and some serious character. Quaint! Lovely! Wanted to move in! The outdoor shower was a hit. And there was plenty of room at the table for 6 of us. Great trip and I'd highly recommend it. And possibly might return again next year! Thank you!

Great Vacation Home!

Our stay at this home was more than we anticipated. Clean, well kept and plenty of room for our party. The kitchen had everything we needed to prepare meals. The dining room was very spacious and comfortable. The bedrooms were quiet and peaceful for anyone who wanted to nap or have a some quiet time during the day. The yard was very peaceful and secluded. We spent most of our time at the table under the beautiful tree. We would definitely use this house again, and highly recommend this vacation house to everyone.

Perfect Cape getaway!

Perfect autumn getaway on the Cape shared by three old college friends despite inclement weather and threats of a hurricane. Handy location for visiting favorite sites like Nauset Beach, Coast Guard Station, Wellfleet, and Provincetown. Cape Cod Natural History Museum is just up the road as are many fine restaurants. Plenty of good reading for spare moments and well equipped kitchen for culinary exploration. Wonderful spot! Can't wait to get back again.

Laid back, old Cape Cod charm. . .

My significant lady and I stayed in this lovely old home over the past Memorial Day weekend. The weather was glorious as was the reception we got from our hosts, Peter and Ellie. Their home is large, comfortable, and divided in half which meant that "our side" and "our yard" were entirely private. The home is secluded and quiet, but close to the Brewster flats where we spent endless hours exploring the tidal pools. And where we got engaged that very weekend, which of course we attribute, at least in part, to the sweet effect of the Johnson homestead. show more show less

spacious historic property

Wonderful old farmhouse, filled with enough books to make many libraries jealous! Great for large family groups (4 BR) and close enough to rte 6A for access both East & West - galleries, museums, bay side beaches. Huge yard, large ass't of beach needs (chairs, etc). We look forward to many more visits!

Our family was lucky enough to inherit this incredible property - it was built by Winslow ancestors some 300 years ago. The house is part of the ''Factory Village'' historic site and sits amidst significant, undeveloped conservation land, giving it privacy and enhancing the wonderful historic character. For years, we ''wintered'' in western Massachusetts, but headed to the Cape whenever possible. Now, some of the family calls the Cape home full-time and the rest try to get back whenever we can.

What is special about this property?
This is a unique, historic Cape Cod home with all the modern amenities! Close to the beach, but in a lovely wooded setting... the perfect spot to relax. Enjoy the privacy of the fenced outdoor shower or stretch out for a nap in the hammock. The screened porch is a great spot for working on a crossword puzzle with your morning coffee. The house's secluded and quiet setting is just a stone's throw from Paines Creek and other Cape Cod Bay beaches - and the amazing Brewster tidal flats where you can spend hours exploring the tidal pools and walking along the sand. Just down Route 6A to the west is the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History, and to the east is the Brewster Store - with its penny candy and baked goods - and the Brewster Ladies Library.

What is special about your town?
