Look; this is a rave review, so in the interest of full disclosure, I'll mention that we came to this listing through a workplace contact. That said, this review is based on our EXPERIENCE at this amazing cottage. If you're lucky enough to stay here, you'll get to see for yourself!.
Having spent many summers on the Cape as a kid, I imagined that the simple pleasures of memory were no longer available in the modern era, filled with marketing hype and customer disappointment. How wrong I was! This elegant, superbly-appointed cottage-by-the-sea brought back the joys of Old Cape Cod, enhanced by modern conveniences and a location that affords easy access to all that the Cape continues to offer.
Just a short walk or 2 minute drive to a private beach setting with spectacular views, sunrise to sunset, this thoroughly modern cottage seems to have been prepared with absolutely everything a couple or small family could possibly need for a relaxing vacation: the outdoor patio/barbecue/fire pit area is private and fully equipped, including a bar with its own fridge. Beach chairs, a beach umbrella and even a pull cart with which to transport items to/from the nearby beach are offered. The neighborhood is quiet and lovely, and fences/trees/vegetation provide optimal privacy for outdoor enjoyment.
Inside the cottage, modern design blended with old world charm showcases ample space for both relaxation and activities. The large kitchen and breakfast bar are accessorized with new appliances, utensils and all cookware needed for the vacationing chef and leftovers/take-out fans alike. The huge refrigerator is a plus, with tons of space for beverages, supplies, frozen foods, ice trays and more. The open plan affords easy access to the fully furnished sun room/dining area, and the living room/entertainment area as well. Cooking up a feast for a small party? Check. Flipping pancakes for two at the breakfast bar? Serving snacks for movie nite on the big screen TV? CHECK.
The master bedroom is modestly-sized and extremely comfortable; the bed offered some of the best nights' sleep I've had in quite a while, and ample closet space/bureau drawers held everything that our (hilarious) overpacking provided. The second bedroom sports oversize bunk-beds that kids will love, and normal-sized adults will enjoy (I'm 6'6", so they're not for someone like me). Wall-mounted HDTV is a plus for nighttime viewing.
Couches and chairs in the living room and sun room are comfortable for hours of lounging or spending time with friends and family. Importantly, the Wi-Fi is fast and reliable, and HDTV cable service provides extensive options for watching the game, checking out a movie or keeping up with favorite shows. Games are provided for family fun.
Inside and out, the cottage provided more than we could have asked for. I've saved the best for last — the location. Brewster and the surrounding communities truly offer everything you can imagine. Great restaurants (Cobie's clam shack is right at the turn for the cottage, a 2-minute drive or short walk away, great clams/onion rings/ice cream, etc.; a wide variety of dining options are close by), antique shops, mini-golf, groceries from supermarket to upscale are handy, package stores, specialty shops (there's a great Kitchen store in the area) and more are within easy driving distance. Looking for a multiplex to while away that occasional rainy day, or a drive-in to bring back memories you thought you'd never experience again? Truly, this area has it all.
I'll end where I began: the beach. So close by and yet worlds away from the crowded experience I think of when I conjure up a summer swim. Wanna get away? The heck with an airline ... head to Brewster! Park your chair above the tide line (or edge closer to dip your toes in the water while reclining/reading a book/listening to music on your iPhone.
