Description

This magnificent 1920’s East Chop cottage has been extensively redesigned, refurbished and expanded to allow friends and families to enjoy luxury accommodations along with rare double views of both Nantucket Sound and neighboring Crystal Lake. Complemented with a huge wrap around deck and a covered dining rotunda, this home provides a desirable location and setting for a memorable Vineyard Vacation.

Nestled on a large double lot in the quiet enclave of East Chop, your privacy and comfort is assured as you spend time relaxing both indoors and out. Blue Whale features a new gourmet kitchen, 8+ person indoor and outdoor dining areas, central A/C, two fridges plus a 40 bottle wine fridge.

The decor, antiques, furnishings and artwork were selected to provide comfort yet preserve the coastal feel of a vintage 1920's MV cottage. The original beach stone fireplace anchors the large living room.

French doors invite you outside to take advantage of the expansive porch with three distinctive seating/eating areas. You have the option of either sun or shade all day long as you experience the gentle cooling ocean breezes while watching the boats sail by. You will also appreciate the plentiful antique wicker deck furniture, a large outdoor dining table, covered dining rotunda and large Weber gas fired BBQ. In the evening grab a cocktail and enjoy the amazing sunsets.

Four generous bedrooms (one on the main floor) feature either King, queen or twin sized beds with sleeping for eight (8). The Master Bedroom sports an antique King brass bed, private en-suite bath with double vanity, claw foot soaker tub and separate shower. All beds have new luxury plush mattresses and frames. There are two more completely remodeled bathrooms with tiled floors and showers with seats.

The basement was finished in 2015 and offers a comfortable get away space with large flat screen TV, Blu-ray player, foosball table and many games. There is a double futon in the area should you need extra space for a guest.

Take a bicycle ride into town, or a leisurely walk along the ocean view drive. This is one vacation that will live with you forever.

Beautiful Stay In Martha's Vineyard~Surpassing High Expectations

Martha's Vineyard is a beautiful place to spend a family vacation. With its mild summer temps, beautiful sunsets, varied terrain and multi-personality neighborhoods, it appeals to all generations. We recently stayed in the Schwartz house at the tip of Oak Bluffs and loved every aspect of our stay. This completely renovated home is impeccably decorated staying true to the Cape Cod charm of the area with bedding that made it tempting to sleep the day away. Its well-appointed kitchen made cooking a pleasure!

The proximity to the water and the lighthouse made sitting on its wrap- around porch a favorite part of the day. We loved watching the white sails traverse the water while enjoying our coffee in the morning, and sharing dinner seated at the large outside table while enjoying a perfect sunset.

Although settled in a quiet neighborhood, this beautiful home is an easy bike ride into town and a short walk to the water. With golfers and tennis players in our family, we were welcomed by the Oak Bluffs tennis club to play in a day-long tournament and enjoyed an 18 hole round of golf at the Farm Neck Golf Club (with breathtaking views). We also ventured out a bit riding bikes into Edgartown, jumping from "Jaw's Bridge," and taking a day trip for a sunset lobster picnic (ordered ahead of time from Larsen's Fish Market) at Aquinnah Beach (a beautiful setting where rock formations meet the ocean waves). After days filled with sunshine and exercise, we were happy to come home to this Oak Bluffs home to relax, play some scrabble, watch a movie and connect as a family. Thank you to the Schwartz' for enhancing our stay through sharing your beautiful home with us. We will certainly be back!

Blue Whale - MV at its BEST!

We stayed at Blue Whale mid-July. This cottage is exactly what everyone hopes for when you rent. Great decor, comfortable beds, large bedrooms and modern bathrooms. The master bath is like a spa. The decks are huge with seating for a crowd.

The location is great - cottage is very private and we walked to East Chop beach, lighthouse and to town. Sunset views are as promised. The entire family enjoyed the games room, watching videos and playing foosball.

Martha's Vineyard Marvel!

Fabulous location within walking/bike ride of Oak Bluffs, plenty of space for our party of 8 (three generations) to spread out, home from home kitchen and cute but tasteful 'blue whale' decor! The expansive veranda perfect for brunch, bbq or cocktails watching a spectacular sunset. The four bedrooms and 3 bathrooms were clean, comfortable and inviting. Our every comfort taken care of from beach towels to hand soap. We all found something special to love - a corner to read, a spot to listen to music, a space to play games or just somewhere to relax and take in the view. The owners were a delight to deal with during the booking process and obviously take great pride in their ownership of such a wonderful property. Can't wait to go back! show more show less

A deck, a sunset and a bottle of wine!

We just spent a long weekend at this beautiful house with three other couples and it couldn’t be better. The house is called Blue Whale and there is a big sign over the dining table that says “The Good Life,” and once you enter this home, you truly feel you are living it! The kitchen is brand new and the place is immaculate. The décor is so tastefully done and yet the house is so comfortable. We played golf in the day but couldn’t wait to come home to have cocktail hours on the beautiful decks and watch amazing sunsets over the water. The spacious kitchen made it easy for us to all cook together, and dining outside on the deck made the evenings complete. We can’t wait to go back! show more show less

Spectacular time

The ocean and sunset views from the covered porch were unforgettable. The decor is perfect MV. Great kitchen with every gadget you would need. The beds were very comfortable and the cross breezes so cooling. The pictures lived up to our expectations. I will be back again soon.

Chris and I love to travel and we like to stay in places that are a bit special. What is most appealing is to get an opportunity to have an experience that gives us a taste of the local lifestyle - location, food and overall ambience. Our comfort is paramount and we want no real big negative surprises with any aspect of our accommodations.

We didn't set out to become hosts of a rental property. Solera is our home and as such reflects our personal taste, style and needs. The decor was all hand picked as was the art and antiques. I got into the island experience and began collecting whaling antiques which are all on display at Solera. We have owned it since 2011.

While it may seem strange, we so enjoyed the renovating and decorating of Solera that we decided to take on a second property. In 2013 we bought Blue Whale and began the journey all over again. Blue Whale proved to be a bigger project but was also an outstanding success. When we stay here we always enjoy the large decks and great ocean views. Again, everything at Blue Whale was picked specifically for that location.

We have had a great experience with renting both of our homes. Our guests treat them well and we strive to give everyone that same no surprise experience. It has been fun meeting such great people and we will continue to share our homes with guests that are looking for a getaway with all the comforts of their own home.

What is special about this property?
Solera was originally a campground cottage built in 1876. It has moved twice by wagon from the campground to East Chop and from East Chop to Canonicus. We bought Solera in 2011 from a family that had owned it for 100 years. Our goal when we began the restoration was to keep it looking as if you are walking into a turn of the century cottage. That was no small feat as we added 5 zones of heating & AC, all modern amenities, a gourmet kitchen and completely rearranged the floor plans to suit our own taste. The end product is absolutely beautiful with large bedrooms and bathrooms, a spacious dining area and Solera's wonderful front porch. The craftsmanship in the home to keep it as a vintage gem is outstanding.

Blue Whale is also unique. Built in 1920 during the depression, the interior of the house was in need of a total facelift. We applied the same philosophy and completely restored the property to give it that early MV feel. People comment on how they are blown away by the little hidden gems in the house. The master bath is a spa and was designed as such. The outside spaces were specifically created to take advantage of the views of the ocean from the hilltop where Blue Whale sits. The downstairs gives kids a place to get away and just relax. Again a large private property assures our guests of a comfortable stay.

We just love both properties and we know you will too.

What is special about your town?
We were lucky to find two houses of this caliber in Oak Bluffs. Properties like this with such great potential just don't come available all that often.

Solera is steps from Inkwell beach, the bike path and an easy walk to restaurants and shopping. We bring our car less than 50% of the time. The house sits on a large double lot surrounded by trees. It is in the historic Copeland district of OB which in itself is a very desirable feature. From the master bedroom balcony you can sit and enjoy the sunrise over the ocean.

Blue Whale is in East Chop and also has a double lot with private parking. It is close to the East Chop beach and an easy bike ride to either OB or Vineyard Haven. We often go to Net Result to pick up seafood for the BBQ. From the deck you can see both Crystal Lake and the ocean all the way to the Cape.

You are welcome to kick back, relax and just enjoy life while you are our guest. We know you will love the time spent with friends and family sitting on the antique wicker furniture and just chatting while you enjoy your favorite beverages!
