    Cape Cod Dream Cottage Escape

My wish for a classic vintage cottage ensconced by a lush grove of trees near the ocean was granted! I was warmly greeted by Karen upon arrival, who gave me superb directions and instructions, thank you. After a chat, I felt so welcome, I proceeded to unloading my travel gear...

There is a large parking spot for my obnoxious American SUV, made loading and unloading a breeze. (Hey, a Prius would not hold my bicycle and luggage)

The cottage was spotless, and with no harsh chemical smell. Thankfully no random dish of potpourri either. Happy to report no doilies or kitch, not to malign the high art of crochet, but it scares the sh*t out of me in random context.
"I would start a revolution, but I just bought a hammock."-
    Zach Galifianakis

There is a pair of romantic white wicker chairs on the front porch. I would begin my day each morning with a cup of coffee. Such tranquility I experienced under a lush canopy of honey locust and oak trees. A diverse variety of song birds, loved the Golden Finches...and the random bird of prey, I believe he enjoyed the finches more than I perhaps. What drama, ornithophiles will get some wood. Bring your binoculars!

The neighborhood is so safe and quiet, I slept with the windows open at night. The neighbors Goldendoodle was a bit sketch lol. Does everyone own a hypoallergenic dog on this island?

The cottage is a short walk or easy bike ride to the bay side. Take a glass of wine or beer and catch the sunset.

I will be returning in 2021! Thank you, Karen and Joe, your place is a treasure!

I recommend visiting The National Seashore. Friends Marketplace in Orleans for provisions. They have an excellent selection of wine and local craft beer. Coastal Craft Gallery in Orleans has a fantastic local art at very reasonable prices. Trader Joe's in Hyannis. I stopped on my drive in, the cottage has a full-size refrigerator so stock up!

    Great location!

Karen was an extremely nice owner to work with! The location was central to the 4 beaches we like to frequent (Nauset, Nauset Light, Coast Guard and Marconi).

    Owner Response:

    Dear Jamie,

Thank you for the review. I also enjoyed working with you on this reservation.

Yikes! How did our cottage get a lackluster review? We just don't know. We communicate with all our renters before, during and after their arrivals and departures, in attempts to make sure all goes well for them. I regret we didn't have the opportunity to hear feedback while you were here.

My apologies to you, Jamie: Despite living on the premises and striving to keep communication open, we were not aware you were not satisfied with the accommodations.

Please be so kind as to forward specific feedback. I emailed you separately for details. Please let us know what you found that wasn't clean, i.e. 2 stars, and why you judge the listing description to be "average" i.e. 3 stars.

We take pride in ongoing caretaking and managing the cottage and in being available to our renters throughout their stays. We strive to continue to maintain a place where our renters enjoy themselves in a "5 star" clean and lovely environment.
    Yours,
    Karen

    Cottage Review

We LOVED our stay here! A comfortable, cozy house in an idyllic woodland setting close to the beautiful vistas of Cape Cod. We were not aware of our nearest cottage neighbor. It was quiet and peaceful. The cottage was well equipped—nothing was forgotten.

It was so close to the best places to visit—the fabulous Cape Cod National Seashore with its natural and human history. And the population centers including Provincetown with its many cultural venues.

We were able to lose track of time. I decided that I could easily spend a summer here! show more show less

    Our Stay at the Cottage

My wife and I needed a place to stay at the last minute, and this cottage was available (property ID # 4034). The pictures looked good, but you never really know what you're getting until you show up. Luckily, we were pleasantly surprised as the cottage had everything we needed. It was exceptionally clean, which is always a nice touch. The owners were very informative and helpful, ensuring that our stay was a good one. I would definitely recommend this cottage to anyone looking for some time in the Cape, and we would absolutely return. Excellent rating on all fronts. show more show less

    Great Cottage!

My girlfriend and I spent a week in this cottage in August and loved it! Karen was very nice and really made the place feel like a home away from home. The cottage combines modern amenities such as central air and a dishwasher with the classic vintage cottage feel one imagines on the Cape. The cottage had everything we were looking for and you can't beat the location and ten minute walk to the beach. Will definitely stay here again!

Cute, quiet cottage with great location

This quaint cottage had everything I needed to enjoy a beautiful week at the cape. Nice kitchen, comfortable family area with tv, comfortable bed. Loved sitting out on the front porch with my breakfast. Owners were very nice and attentive. Was able to store my bike in their shed. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is the shower. If there was a 4.5 would give it that. Small, old, very little water pressure. Other than that it was great.

    Owner Response:

    Dear Lori,
Thank you for taking the time to write a thorough and lovely review.

I apologize about the water pressure problem you experienced. As you know, we live on the premises, and make routine albeit non intrusive contact with our guests, advising them to get in touch immediately for any problems. I am sorry we did not know about this, while you were staying here. While we cannot fix the "small and old" impression, we would have evaluated the problem and intervened immediately. That is what we are here for.

Current guests report they have no water pressure problems. We will watch and intervene in this new, inconsistent water pressure event and we are very grateful for your heads up.

    Yours,
    Karen

We loved the Little Yellow Cottage!

This cute little gem is walking distance to Cooks Brook beach, one of the many wonderful bay side beaches in Eastham, and a short drive to the drive-in theater and P.B. Boulangerier (the primo French bakery and restaurant) in Wellfleet. The bed was firm but comfy and the rooms spacious.

We enjoyed many breakfasts out on the back deck while watching rabbits, chipmunks and a variety of birds going about their daily business. It always felt private. Karen, Joe and Micheal are wonderful caretakers, making sure everything is going well but in no way intrusive. Though the place is meant for two, our daughter stayed a few days in the beginning and we never felt uncomfortable or crowded. We look forward to another stay here in the near future! show more show less

    Reasonable and comfortable

Our stay was very comfortable. Karen was most accommodating and helpful. The bed was good and a queen size. All the appliances worked, and it was not hard to make dinners with a well equipped kitchen. The location is not too far from the bay, the beach was very handy, and the cottage was in a pretty location with lots of greenery all around. We had a very nice time.

    Wonderful Cape Cod Cottage

My wife and I had a wonderful week in this charming Outer Cape cottage. In particular, we loved the birds singing in the morning, the short walk to the beach, and easy drive to all our favorite spots in Wellfleet, Eastham and Orleans. We also appreciated the new appliances and the overall cleanliness of the place.

Karen and Joe were great hosts too--nearby and attentive to our few requests. We hope to have the opportunity to stay here again!

    Peaceful Retreat with Spectacular Sunsets

My dear friend and I visited the Cape as a late summer escape from the heat of NYC and the work demands of fall. The cheerful yellow cottage was ideal for us -- simple, clean, and welcoming, furnished thoughtfully with all we needed for a comfortable, quiet retreat, including the hosts' personal recommendations for special places to see and where to eat the best local seafood.

We savored the incredible natural beauty of the Cape: hiking, whale watching, beach picnics, and by far the most beautiful sunsets (painted skies!) I have ever seen. Our hosts Karen and Joseph were both wonderfully available and attentive, while also offering ample space for a just-right feeling of autonomy and freedom. I highly recommend a visit! show more show less

Except for the old trees, our property was almost clear cut, when we found it. We took care of the old trees and planted new greenery. Now we have an acre of property that looks in on itself: A green respite with sweet cottages on the inside surrounded by the beach and seashell driveways on the outside.

We welcome arriving travelers and help them settle in.

What is special about this property?
Our place was once a turnip farm. Now that's special.

Remodeled, vintage cottages, comparatively small and simple, have some popular amenities and eclectic design elements.

Two cottages were built on a slope, initially the bay's outlet bank. Most renters either walk or bike down the driveway, then onto to Steele Road to go straight to the beach. The slope is high enough to afford a sense you are away from it all. The third cottage is built back from the road, surrounded by bushes and trees.

A clear cut, grassy, backyard space is used in a variety of ways by different renters.

Landscaping is cared for but not manicured.

Cottage interiors are cozy, comfortable, warm enough for early and mid winter and cool enough to avoid heat and humidity.

What is special about your town?
Eastham is a laid back town, easily connected to all parts of the Cape, nevertheless aiming to avoid rapid development and to stay in stride with the National Seashore's preservation goals.

The National Seashore takes care of two of the most beautiful beaches. Eastham is long and thin geographically; you are never farther than two miles away from ocean and bay beaches.

The Outer Cape is a unique, fragile, yet tough, a natural environment, basking in a degree of sunlight that continues to draw painters and photographers. Wherever you are on the Outer Cape, around sunrise and sunset, remember to look at everything...the sky, the trees, the colors of the clouds and the shadows of Cape Cod structures.
