My grandparents took my sisters and brother here when we were little kids. It's so nice to be back at the same cottage. Of course some renovations have been made to the cottage, but it still feels like home. I love that the beach is just a short walk away. Being on the bay side, the water is so much warmer than going to Nauset Beach. The sunsets are absolutely breathtaking. The first time I came to this cottage was 1974. Eastham is such a great town. Thumpertown Road will always hold a special place for me in my heart. I have so many grateful memories with my grandparents here, and I am forever thankful they introduced me to Eastham.
The beach is perfect for families with small children, very little to no waves. Sometimes, it's almost pond like. It is amazing when the tide is out. So many sand bars to walk miles and miles and just explore. One thing I do miss most is not seeing the target ship out in the bay. Back in the 70's, I remember the airplanes from Otis Airbase taking target practice on the ship. It was quite a sight to watch. Even though I am a 52 year old man, I still act like a little kid when the ice cream truck pays a visit daily at the beach. (I work it off climbing the stairs.)
The cottage is small, but cozy. It does sleep 6, so not really that small. I have been coming here for many years, and I plan to continue to come and rent here for many more years. When the tide is high, there is not that much beach room, but that's okay for me, I spend hours in the water. I usually just float along my boogie board. The new patio added makes having dinner at the table more family friendly than sitting around the old picnic table which is fine too.
The restaurants, especially Arnold's, is a must. If you don't feel like cooking out, I highly recommend Arnold's. It's close by and by far has the best food. Of course the Red Barn is not to be missed either. From pizza to ice cream to mini golf, they have it all. The Welfleet Drive-In Theater is not a far drive if you want to check out hit double feature movies. Eastham has it all. And if it doesn't, it's just a short drive away.
With us, our routine was simple: Get up, go to the beach, spend all day there, come home for dinner, walk back down to the beach after dinner to catch the amazing sunsets, go out and play a mean round of mini golf, get ice cream, then back to the cottage. There are so many different mini golf courses around Eastham. My favorite is the one in Orleans. Each hole is named after a Cape town. These cottages are so well kept. I'm sure it's not easy to keep up with the maintenance, but the owners do a great job. It's sad to see summer pass us by. I truly cannot wait for August 2018 to get here.
Owner Response:
Bill,
This brought tears to my eyes as I remember time spent with family as a young child on this same beach. You might have been playing on the sand bars right next to us! Thanks so much for the wonderful review.
Sincerely,
Diane
