Description

Our home is a lovely antique, filled with light and in a great location for exploring the Outer Cape's freshwater ponds, harbors, bay and ocean beaches. Back roads accessible by bike or car bring you to Eastham's quiet bayside beaches and inlets or to shopping and restaurants in nearby Orleans. The Outer Cape's vast expanse of National Seashore beaches begin several miles from us.

Formerly the ''Birthing Home'' in Eastham, the house was moved and lovingly updated - including wiring and heating and sits on a large quiet, private lot. You'll especially enjoy its charming, well-equipped kitchen and spacious yard with outdoor deck, large outdoor shower and Weber gas grill.

Please know that this is not a ''Beach House''! Its appeal will be for those looking for something very special in a walkable neighborhood with bike or car access to beaches within several miles in all directions.

Our main entrance is through a side door into the farmhouse style kitchen with custom cherry cabinets and a beamed ceiling. A gas stove and oven, large fridge and freezer, and dishwasher make cooking at home convenient and fun. A small table seats four. Pots and pans are new, and there is a microwave, coffee pot, dishes and many cooking utensils.

A large hall area just off the kitchen contains a wardrobe closet, a petite desk, and the door to the deck/patio and outdoor shower. There is a large bathroom with a new vanity and toilet off of this hall. At the other end is the downstairs bedroom, an addition with windows on three sides. It has two small dressers, a queen bed, and side tables with lamps.

The parlor/living room is entered from a wide opening off this hall. It has a fireplace (we ask our guests not to use it), a comfy down-filled couch that opens to a full bed, several side chairs, and a large-screened high definition TV equipped with cable and accessible for streaming services. There is a window air-conditioning unit for hotter days.

High speed Internet WIFI is available throughout the house.

A narrow stairway leads to the second floor. There are rug pads on the stairs and a railing for safety. The door at the top leads into the dormered master bedroom, which has the full bath (with a delightful old fashioned claw-foot tub as well as a shower stall), toilet, and pedestal sink. The bedroom has a handmade queen bed, a dresser, side tables, and a closet. In addition, there is a tiny room off this bedroom with a window and door that can be used for storage, enjoyed as a sitting area or office or used as a sleeping area for a small person. It is furnished with a little table, lamp, and small couch.

A large deck at the back of the house has a patio table, five chairs and a three burner Weber gas grill. The spacious outdoor shower is in one corner - a great place to wash off the beach sand!

An additional outdoor gathering space is a fire pit surrounded by Adirondack chairs.

The neighborhood is quiet and residential, a combination of year-round and vacation homes. There are many nearby roads with little traffic for walking, and the Cape Cod bike trail is about five minutes away for off-road biking or walking. You can store your beach toys and bikes in our little red shed.

Convenient to both Orleans for shopping and dining and Eastham and the towns further out (Wellfleet, Truro, and Provincetown), we love the location. One of our favorite fresh-water ponds has a small beach and is just over a mile away - easy to get to on a bike or a longer walk. Bay beaches within several miles have shallow waters and are great for small children, walks and for sunset-watching. The National Seashore's Salt Pond Visitor's Center is 1.7 miles away where a fun 1.6 mile bike/walking trail brings you to spectacular Coast Guard Beach.

We are happy to provide you with ways to use the back roads to arrive at Eastham's beautiful new library, the local store for a quick stop for groceries or liquor, and plenty of special little beaches/trails away from summer crowds. Of course, a big draw in Eastham is our proximity to the National Seashore's amazing beaches and access to restaurants and art galleries in Wellfleet and lively Provincetown.

    A true gem

We loved staying at this beautiful home! A perfect combination of old charm and modern amenities. We enjoyed cooking on the grill and having our meals in the fabulous kitchen and on the deck.

The living room was very pleasant for relaxing, and the beds were very comfortable. The quiet location was perfect for our family, and we took advantage of the proximity of the rail trail to take long walks and bike rides, stopping at Herring Pond for a quick dip.

    Highly recommended!

Finding a vacation home that allows pets that is pristine and new-looking was a fabulous surprise. In addition to this home's wonderful atmosphere inside and out, you'll find yourself in the most perfect location on the Cape. Bike trails, swimming and sunsets are all nearby. Enjoy all that is wonderful about the Cape from this perfect place of respite. We can't wait to return! show more show less

    A Gem!

This farmhouse is a gem—spacious, airy and private. It contains the best of the new and old. Nostalgically old on the outside, and conveniently new on the inside. It has been beautifully restored and updated. Every room is appealing in its own way. The amenities include wifi, new comfy mattresses and pillows, washer'dryer, dishwasher, microwave, etc. The kitchen is a charmer, fully equipped, large and airy, with big windows on three sides. The 1st floor bedroom has 4 large windows that let in so much fresh air that a/c is not necessary. The bedroom on the 2nd floor, just as charming as the one downstairs, has its own bath and separate study office. Though it has large windows, on a hot night it needs a/c which has been conveniently installed. The LTR has windows on two sides, a working fire place with exquisite mantel, and comfy seating to watch the 48 or 52" TV. The deck is perfectly situation adjacent to the rear of the house with a spacious outdoor shower. The house is located in a very pretty, very quiet neighborhood off Route 6, just a short drive away from everywhere you want to go: the ponds, the bay, the ocean, supermarkets and restaurants. We'd come back in a blink–and hope to. show more show less

We are a Franco-American couple living in the northeast and had been visiting the Cape for many years before deciding to find a place of our own. We fell in love with the ''yellow house'' as soon as we saw it. It is incredibly light inside and out and is set on a great parcel of land. It has a wonderful story as Eastham's ''Birthing House'' and was updated but still has many original details.
We are delighted to be stewards of such an important part of Eastham's history, and look forward to sharing it with others who will enjoy and care for it as we do.

What is special about this property?
It is unique and filled with light. The area is quiet and has multitudes of walks and easy access to the bike path.

What is special about your town?
We are in Eastham, where the magnificent National Seashore beaches begin, yet are close to Orleans for easy access to shopping.

There are freshwater ponds within several miles that we love to swim in.

Our area is non-touristy and there is a network of small roads you can walk or bike on without going onto the main road, 6.
